Call me amnesiac but I do not recall universities offering twinning/transfer to Australia including the cost of student's insurance in the whole scheme. (inclusive of course fees et-cetera)

In case of any doubt, probably it'll be advisable for all prospective/current students in Australia (on a Students Visa) to renew/obtain a insurance cover.

It is compulsory and it is deemed to be against your visa requirement if you do not have an up-to-date insurance cover during your stay here in Australia.

OSHC provides the necessary insurance cover during your stay in Australia.
*
yes, you are right.

OSHC isn't affiliated with universities (but if i'm not wrong, monash offers a percentage discount off due to their strategic partnership et cetera)

not that i'm offering any sort of financial advices, but if anyone here (especially prospective/future students) who has any banking related questions in oz, you can actually ask me here or via PM.

i actually did some relatively detailed researches with regard to the banking facilities here; just a personal interest nod.gif nod.gif nod.gif

hye..just want to ask you about the commonwealth bank.I had an account with them,is it true that we have to renew(or something like that) the card every year?
Thanks.
*
erm there is no such thing as far as i know.

a card is valid until the month/year stipulated on card itself or unless you/bank cancelled it.

i think, the bank is impying for you to come in every year (usually march) to present your student ID as a prove that you are still a student

otherwise you will have to pay the yearly account maintenance fee

Added on February 2, 2010, 1:09 pmoh by the way, RBA has decided to hold the rate constant at 3.75% for the month of february, earlier today at 2.30pm AEST

hence the AUD has plunged a little.

it is currently hovering around 3.00

wont help much mate. Consider BNM will raise the rate aliitle to help prepare Msia for better position. That will help more.
For Aus, its better RBA raise the rates.
*
huh? what on earth were you referring to?

i was implying the exchange rates

any1 fly from KL to Melbourne with Emirates?better than MAS?
saw the price RM1.4k+ but MAS RM1.7k (same date)
*
prefer MAS for two reasons;

1. prefer local hospitality

2. accrue enrich points (i managed to upgrade to business class using the points, when i flew from tullamarine to KLIA)

Tax and anyhow? I'm facing weight problem and might result in sending textbooks over via mail. I'm afraid that it might be taxed or whatnot.
*
i honestly doubt that they will tax you for books.

furthermore, if they are used books, more a reason, not to worry.

Added on February 3, 2010, 11:37 pmhowever, be warned, that if you attempt to dispatch food into australia, you might encounter some hiccups.

a friend, once sent me a box of dried and packed food from malaysia and guess what?

the custom department took the liberty to open it up and scrutinised the contents.

they were subsequently cleared, with no item confiscated. they did, however included a couple of pamphlets, warning me what are items prohibited into the country.

they even repacked the box securely (and arranged the contents inside nicely)

Note they can be a bit inconsistent. Sometimes the achar of my friend goes through, sometimes not.

well of course, it depends on your luck at times (not just australia, but postal services globally)

i purchase quite a number of electronics from abroad regularly and i have experienced my share of "disappointment"

So i'm thinking of to further my study in Aussie....I want to do MBA but the problem is, one of the requirement is to hv at least 2 years working experienced....

is it a compulsory? I just graduated last May 2009....my experienced in the industry only for 8 months....

is there any Uni that offer fresh grad???
*
i would be more dubious if an institution that offers MBA doesn't have such a prequisite.

short cuts typically don't lead to anything significant (especially when it comes to education)

1 week for the debit card to be made? Even slower than Maybank? Hardly believe that.  shocking.gif My family prepared me more than 10k AUD bank drafts and how do i declare the amount? I heard that cash limit is 10k USD.
*
common sense will tell you that, you are not the only student that they are handling or processing during such peak period.

besides, cards are to be posted and may take a few business days to arrive (due to logistics & geography of australia in general)

you have answered your own question; bank drafts are not cash and therefore are not governed by the rule.

yes melbourne for starters.

there is an old saying, that goes, if you are in melbourne, single and endeavor to be attached

and yet still fail to find a suitable half/GF, you are either;

1. incredibly fussy with high expectations, or

2. you are gay not straight

you don't need to be a genius to be honest, to realise that the rock bottom exchange rate during the GFC, will not be stay stagnant.

my parents were so adamant that the rates will even go lower and i convinced them otherwise...

any1 applied credit card from CBA before? i am interested with student credit card from CBA but i dun know i am eligible for it or not :/
*
i used to have it (but cancelled it off recently)

you are definitely eligible for the student version (if you are still one) and the limit starts from AUD3000.

the limit will progressively increase from time to time.

it is also free for students, but you will not be eligible to accrue the points from your spending.

ok..mind to know why you cancel it?
is it easy to apply for student version?
i no need so high for the limit but dun care for the moment..
i also dun mind of those rewards(this is my last year of study)
and how many days you get approved and send it over to you?
*
not much point to own a credit card for me; my debit cum mastercard will suffice

i applied directly at the branch.

and it was dispatched to me, about a week later.

Oh so they have now removed the Awards for student credit card? When I applied mine back in 2008, they gave me a normal Awards MasterCard and just waived my annual fees upon showing them my student card every year. But come to think of it, I don't recall seeing any specific/tailored for students credit card back then though, guess it must have been a relatively new product.
*
superficially, they look identical.

just that student's version has the advantages/dis- that I have mentioned earlier.

but they did ask a lot of questions when I wanted to cancel it; typical banks.
