QUOTE(writesimply @ Jan 9 2010, 11:44 PM) Not quite true on censorship. TRUE that any content gets censored first but viewing and censoring are done using BetaHD. It's very quick. Also to some degree, the tapes may contain clean language instead of the R-rated ones. Once the tape passes the censors, it gets played on the BetaHD decks. The H.264 encoding is done online aka LIVE. The reason for live encoding is simple: the broadcaster is the one that sets the bitrate per channel. If it's pre-encoded, it may be encoded to too high a bitrate. I don't like censorship but we have to live with it until the majority of Malaysians understand why censorship is not needed. fuad Not true, HBO playout is from Singapore not Astro, Astro only plays anything on HBO if a movie is banned here and HBO is still showing it for other regions. Astro doesn't use tape for play out either they use servers. All internal channels go into a special editing system that delays the feed before broadcasting it allowing the censors to do anything they want.

QUOTE(sciguy @ Jan 10 2010, 12:55 AM) talking bout the ESPN HD, there was a PANASONIC mobile road show in citymall, kk, sabah. They were showing off their 103" LCD TV, (YES, 103" i'm not talking bullsh*t) with HD recorded football match, watching distance is no more than 10 feet together with 5.1 surround sound, it's really like you are on the field, and it makes me stands up and imagine you are one of the player!!!! So, i'm now saving up, i can't afford the 103" lcd tv which cost RM299,999.00!!!! But i might be able to save up for a true HD 24P projector which only cost around RM15k. Guys, once you have a chance to look on it, i'm sure u'll be poison like me. DANG It's actually their 103" Plasma TV. Just read in the newspaper few days back that Panasonic is coming out with 150" 3D Plasma TV.

Guys, once you have a chance to look on it, i'm sure u'll be poison like me. DANG Panasonic PT-AE4000 costs RM7000 + Shipping if you buy from the US. Here's the ProjectorCentral.com review. It's the latest 1080p PJ, with auto aspect ratio changing for CIH screens. You'd want to use it with BDs more than with B.yond. fuad

The FAQ quotes Sports package only QUOTE What if I am not a sports package subscriber? Will I get ESPN HD and Astro SuperSport HD by paying the access fee?
No. The High-Definition channels are bundled within our existing packages. So if you're not a sports package subscriber, you will not be able to watch ESPN HD and Astro SuperSport HD. To watch your favourite sports in High-Definition, you will have to subscribe to our Sports package on top of the RM20 per month access fee.

QUOTE(TVSPY @ Jan 9 2010, 11:57 PM) Not true, HBO playout is from Singapore not Astro, Astro only plays anything on HBO if a movie is banned here and HBO is still showing it for other regions. Thanks for the correction. But delaying a movie for over an hour when you can do it online on the spot doesn't make sense. At most you delay is 15 minutes. QUOTE Astro doesn't use tape for play out either they use servers. All internal channels go into a special editing system that delays the feed before broadcasting it allowing the censors to do anything they want. Of course. But they do use tape to download to the servers. But what they can censor first, they will. fuad

QUOTE(TVSPY @ Jan 10 2010, 12:12 AM) Think about it. Why would you get them if you don't even subscribe to the SD version of the channel? Simple reason... the SD version sucks and I just want to watch HD only. HD channels broadcast are different from the SD channel broadcast (i.e. HBO vs HBO HD)

No wonder they offer RM20 for the HD packages. As usual price will go up once they reach xxx number of subscribers.

True if astro is doing the play out but if they are censoring an incoming feed there is no tapes involved.

QUOTE(writesimply @ Jan 9 2010, 11:12 PM) Hmmm. So far the PS3 can let you play 1080i video via component but needs HDMI to play 1080p. Check online resources or your manual to see if your TV has HDCP with its HDMI input. fuad The PS3 only has HDMI and play 1080i on my TV (HD ready 1366 x 768) without any problem. My TV claimed to have HDCP. Waiting for Panasonic Tech to call me.

True if astro is doing the play out but if they are censoring an incoming feed there is no tapes involved. A ex-colleague who previously worked with Astro once told me that Astro receive a censoring incoming feed and dun do censoring on their own. Say something about HBO will sue them if they do censoring themself. This post has been edited by RAMChYLD: Jan 10 2010, 12:23 AM
