patient bro,just bring your set to the edifier showroom next week and see what can they help u...

check make sure that the speaker volume is set below 7 and the soundcard volume is below 80%

re-check your cables, connection and the volume of your speaker system and your PC, make sure the connection is firm and not loose when plugged in, try playing music or sounds and incrementing the volume slowly, if there is crack or weird sound, kindly bring the unit to the showroom and we shall check on it.

R501 you cannot buta buta blast full 1, sure got cracking sounds
Have to adjust properly for best setup

need to burn-in first (in this case)?

yeah...i agree with u on that. I tested the R501 in the showroom but the sound sucks so I ended up buying the S4.1

To me the r501 fits well for its price-to-performance ratio
Its performance even surpass some other brands in this price range, the clarity and woofer power is good, can say blend in quite well but it would be better if it has tweeters in it (my model and the R501T)

But the MKII seems to fit everything nicely already in the box, but the weakness is still there so...we can't expect much for a 5.1 hifi system at the 300-400 range

Yeah you are right, I am a proud R501 user here, best setting is 62 - 66 percent on your master volumn and your speaker volumn set at 4... after sometime, when your speaker is burn in thouroughly, you'll feel what shinjite says...
need some time to play along with this baby...if you understand what I mean...

p/s - they still havent solve the weakness in MKII?? sigh.. what a waste...

Budget range for 5.1 best is R501 MKII (both clarity and power bass) and dun forget the smaller brother the R451 (superb clarity and weaker bass)

Mine is not MKII version, its the 2nd generation R501 but chnaged its satelites with R451 so got tweeters, good for vocals and high frequency sounds

my setting is similar to yours but higher master volumn...
btw.. what sound card are you using?
I am using a creative 5.1 d.e..... adding some tweak in the control center... adding an additional environment tweaking - disco in the living room setting... ( creative sound card user might know this....but if I confuse you, I will post up some screenie tomorrow)..

was hoping to change mine to MKII...but soon after I mod this baby by adding padding inside the subwoofer..hehehe
still struggling whether to open the subwoofer casing or not ...

Oh you add environment settings huh, currently I using onboard Realtek AC97 audio, will get a Creative Audigy 2 ZS soon. Yeah I know that, I used a Soundblaster 5.1 DE before

I won't add any environments because everything will change, to me default is the best

If bass and treble, need to use software
The speaker mostly is bass and the front channels+centre are treble, rear for surround

Then restart ur mp3, there will be 5.1 already
Make sure ur soundcard has the 5.1 feature enabled

the controller of R501 & S series r similar eccept the color. The F1 button @ S5.1 is "mode button"-for select DVD mode, music mode & etc.

So @ R501 is reserve button & don't serve any purpose

depends on what soundcard ur using, With sound storm, you will have 5.1 output for mp3, but with audigy, there's only 4.1 output. and its not surround sound, just stereo sound.

The 7-7-6-4 is actually my settings for my R501
Your S4.1 the volume control is knob base 1...so you have to change yourself for your best listening

u see , everytime i play my winamp , it will run the song for a while then suddenly no sound and the whole pc no sound also, winamp also cannot run d. must restart the pc only can have sound back.
is it becos of the speaker or the sound card ?

Does anyone knows where to buy longer and thicker speaker cables? The standard ones are just too short. I saw ppl using those pink ones for e3100.

if i change r501 mkII wire to a thicker can get quality effect ...maybe on sound?

Of course it will make some improvement in sound quality.

My friend is using a pair of cable (RM2000++) with his Hi Fi, he told me his Hi Fi produce better sound quality then b4.

He also told me for R501, if u want better bass the placement of the sub must be correct - the air port must face to wall.

Mine master volume is 5 for music, will be freaking loud already
but sometimes its 8-8-9-5 for my music for trance/techno
If vocal songs, 6-6-5-4 is already enough

For movies and videos it depends on the sound

R501 have a very good quality sound la........the price is fix the quality...wooden all.....very good...solid sound...

might upgrade to this model...

correct me if im wrong... mine R501 the input lah... errr....from my audigy, its black but only corect to connect to orange input of the speaker. n the orange is vice versa.. if not.. my woofer/center n rear speaker get switch.. does this manufacture defect???

mayb u can ask pc world 2 order 4 u..they can get it from mr jack

back to the black n orange sockets that some people state.. i think..its err..donno whos fauly.. with other souncard.. other then soundblaster. the orange input goes to ornge output from soundcard
same goes with black output..goes to black input to the speaker..
but with audigy or soundblaster.. both are switch..where black goes to orange n vice versa..
then the wooffer n rear are set corectly..

just bought r501 mk2...woooo..really impressed with the sound laa... love it so much..aarghhh..too bad...only use on board soundcard only ...no money to buy audigy2zs...bought dvd burner edi..adoi..nvm...can wait next sem...will receive more money from ytm hehe

What is the diffrent between R501 and R501mkii.

the main difference is the R501 MKII has tweeter on all the satellites.

u don't need a separate amp to use it. the amp is built into the subwoofer.

and yes, some do use it for home-theatre. u can come to the Edifier Showroom 4th Floor, Low Yat Plaza to test on our dvd player and tv and nice sofa. just like a home theatre.

if the dvd player only have either RCA red and white cable or digital output for audio, then which connectors on the R501MKII should I plug in to deliver 5.1 surround sound effect/enviroment with centre speaker also fully working?

Haha this might be late, but me registering as a old skoll R501 user! Probably i'm the one here to own the oldest R501. Its the first gen model, and i got it back at 2001.



Best value for money 5.1 system back then, and the only contender was the z540 . Well, it still is now right .

Your DVD player needs to have 6 RCA ports at the back in order for you to use the R501 directly on it to fully utilize the surround sound.
The 6 RCA connectors should be as follows:
- 1xRed + 1xWhite = Front Speaker Output
- 1xRed + 1xWhite = Rear Speaker Output
- 1xRed + 1xWhite = Centre/Subwoofer Speaker Output

firstly i'm proud to own an edifier mkII, recently i have change dvd player due to old 1 quite sensitive, secondly when connected to my new jvc dvd player, i have two extra cable which unconnected, well, play anything no problem but without on the speakers no sound even from tv? scrathing head

That's because your speakers are doing the sound output now.
In order for your TV to have sound, the audio output cable from your dvd player has to go into the TV.
