They're trying to retain the current base by offering auto CL increase. The same tactic is being used by CIMB and CIMB DA.

The online system allow you to check history of your transactions/payments, points and credit limit. No PDF statement generation like Citibank/SCB and no online bill payment system like Citibank and SCB.

often they auto CL increase when you don't carry your outstanding balance right? meaning you pay in full every month?

Not necessarily. CL upgrade actually depends on many factors but so happen CIMB is one of the major targets for card cancellations no choice but to use it as customer retention tool.

Err ... what's wrong in paying in full every month ?

CIMB major target for cancellation? Really? How come?

Nothing wrong in paying full every month, good practice actually!

@rockefeller,
First, there's no point in keeping so many CCs so something will have to go. Also, some of us here don't care what cards we hold in our wallets; as long as it's usable who cares if it's exclusive or not?! tongue.gif

Many here cancel CIMB Bank credit card because they want to boycott them (Najib's brother is the CEO of CIMB Bank). But from what i gather outside, many people with both Maybank and CIMB Bank credit cards mostly choose to retain Maybank credit card(s) and cancel the CIMB Bank one(s). I guess Maybank is still the preferred brand despite its reputation.

i dont understand some people still have the common perception that having local bank's cards like maybank and cimb may be inconvenient when abroad as they're not known there. i've been using local bank's cards during my travel abroad and they make no difference compared to when i flash my amex or cards from foreign banks.

I think many choose to retain their Maybank credit card as many of them have an account with Maybank and they feel Maybank is bigger, the convenience of M2U and easier to make payment because Maybank is bigger in terms of branch presence etc. Nothing to do with brand name when using their card abroad as neither are really well known outside of Southeast Asia.

Agreed. I was just ranting actually, not related to the reason why many choose to cancel CIMB smile.gif

It is just a perception and I think part due to the foreign banks marketing impact. You see they will always say ... "Our brand is well known internationally" vs local banks which has limited overseas visibility. Again ... there are times you need these foreign bank cards are well coz the foreign cashier might give a look if you use cards which they are not familiar with.

Generally you should have no problems with your card so long they carry the VISA or the Mastercard logo.

Perhaps another reason for people to be cancelling their CIMB CCs and not their MBB CCs is due to the non expiry of points with MBB whilst CIMB points are valid only for 3 years?!

i m lucky to realize the power of debt through one educational loan and one computer instalment loan.

educational loan about 30k, I have paid off in lumpsum, just before I join you guys for investment.

for computer instalment loan, I only borrow 2.5k, but end up paying 18 months. Then only I know that borrowing money is easy but paying is hard.

most importantly, credit card is for security and emergency only. For security, you can use debit card even better.

So now my one and only one plat card is only for emergency + point collecting only. I always paid off everything at night using online transaction. Never missed once and make it a habit.

I decided not to have a single cent balance in my credit card for more than 20 days.. smile.gif

where airmiles is concerned, amex's membership rewards makes much more sense than maybank's treatpoints.

7000 treatpoints = 1000 miles

5600 MR points = 1000 miles
