QUOTE(roy918 @ Apr 13 2010, 01:05 PM) Did they offer such a good rate? Can only find 12months for 2% herePbbank has 1.5% for 12 months promo now. Planning to just move some cash into it, and just park my money in FD. It's like a forced savings plan for 1.25% This post has been edited by elhh82: Apr 13 2010, 01:09 PM

It's like a forced savings plan for 1.25% But u still need to pay for monthly installment? You wouldn't have earn full 2.75% for 1 year FD by doing that.

You wouldn't have earn full 2.75% for 1 year FD by doing that. i have the money to pay the instalments from my future income, so basically i'm getting the cash upfront to put into FD. but you'd have to be sure about your financial discipline to do this. Coz the banks are basically setting a trap, and waiting for you to fall into it.

Correction ... it is the customer that chooses to fall into the trap. Banks are commercial entities who wants to make money and they are not charities. You know that chilies are hot but yet you eat them. You want to blame the chili for being hot or yourself for eating it ? Get the equation right bro. Just look at the amount of 'undesirable' inquiries that we have in this forum alone for BT, cash advance, EZPayments, high CL, upgrade CL, etc .... it's inevitable that consumers fall into the debt trap. Hot chilies are delicious. If you want to play with the devil, just make sure you know the game, that's all i'm saying. There no free lunch, the banks are out to get you, but you can also use them in your favour if you play the game right.

how do we know what's the merchant category code when we swipe the card?

Generally, they will exclude points reward for petrol transaction.
Some cards offer cash rebate to offset this like CIMB DA.
Some cards offer extra points (5x) like AMEX Gold CC and MBB Petronas Visa.

I found out something today. My DA card didnt have CIMBclicks access and statements are mailed to my parents' house every month. I made a 0% for 6 months with them and whilst writing a cheque for the month of April, I didnt know what the due date was, so I referred to February statement - due date was 6th March 2010. I assumed the Apr due date is 6th April 2010 so I wrote a check for the 4th of April. I banked it in and lo and behold, the due date was actually 3rd of April ...... I was quite sad cause I was about to pay 1% penalty which is almost RM100 . I signed up for CIMBclicks access immediately and my April statement just came out - I didnt get charged anything for paying late .... ..... yay?!

@Syd G. Perhaps you got lucky. I read somewhere, there's a few days of grace after the due date where you won't get hit by the penalty.
Still ... let's not do it again. I know I'll get upset too with the penalties.

I was thinking that ~RM100 could be used to pay someone to wash my car almost 30 times ....dem rugi 3 more months and we'll be totally debt free except for the mortgage

Simple ... no B&W, they can say anything. As far as I know HSBC got no such thing as 'guaranteed' (using DA as the benchmark) Free For Life - if got means, you need to call in every year.

You cannot simply assume old due date as next statement due date. It is more accurate to calculate yourself since we all getting 20 days after statement date to pay. So assuming your statement date is 14th every month, due date for Feb statement is March 6th (due to 28 days in Feb) and due date for March statement is April 3rd. Your amount due more than RM10k?
