QUOTE(just_kiing @ May 28 2011, 07:50 AM) How are the speakers of Alienware M14x compare with Qosmio F60? Got subwoofer? Yeah, turned traitor haha~ I'm leaving Earth So you jointed Alienware mothership? The Klipsch speakers are better for songs with bass because of the subwoofer. Other than that, the harman/kardon is still better |

Hi all,
I was googling for some Toshiba info and I found this useful forum. I am using Toshiba M100 which is around 5 years old, still functioning but... 1. The screen cannot be pressured or the wiring inside will go off place and turn the whole screen into red or black out. 2. The wifi system also got prob, it hang after disconnection. so I was using LAN card before it got fired during a lightning strike, and now the internet access is depended on a USB external wifi. 3. The DVD drive is growling at me everytime I read something using it, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Since Toshiba is among the best of value and quality laptop in the market, I am seeking help from all gurus on which one should I get? My requirements are: Budget: RM 2-3.5 k Processor: preferrably i5. i3 or i7 should be ok. Good audio and graphic. Long battery life. with or without DVD drive is fine with me. (preferably without, can cut cost and weight, i can use my external DVD drive) I mainly need to use it for a genetics analysis software called MEGA, it is compatible with most system but it will slow down when processing large amount of data. another reason is, I wish to play the Sims 3 using PC/laptop. =P my toshiba M100 can install it but it will crash not long after loading the game. I was eyeing on the toshiba Libretto W100 also, can I get any review? Sorry for the lengthy essay. >_< really appreciate your help. thankius! I used to own a Satellite M100 as well Libretto W100 is not meant for phylogenetic programs 1 la haha, its way too weak For power + entertainment purposes: Toshiba Satellite P745, i7-2620M + Nvidia GT525M@RM3499[harman/kardon], backlit keyboard For light weight and long battery life: Toshiba Tecra R840-2002U, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM3285(Hikari85), W7P Toshiba Portégé R830, i3-2310M + Intel HD3000@RM3379(Hikari85)[1.4kg], W7P, 2nd & 3rd year international warranty, Microsoft Office Home & Student 2010; colors: Black/Red/Blue Toshiba Satellite L730-2054U, i5-2410M + Intel HD3000@RM2850(Hikari85), W7P You can consider the underlined ones **It'll be good to extend the warranty to 3 years considering bioinformatic analysis generates a lot of heat, its RM299 for 3 years local warranty I'm working on phylogenetics as well Where do you study? Dear sifus, my sis just gave me a Toshiba external HDD which supports USB 3.0. After connecting to my laptop's USB 3.0 ports, the speed is only 4-5MB/s, is this normal? lol
I'm transferring ALOT of small files at one go |

Thank you for replying~ The few lappy you recommended, all above 2.8k de wor... no option for below 2.5k? The main consideration is still the performance and battery life. Haha~ from the 2nd line of your reply, I know you should be a science person. XD I 've just finished my undergrad in Genetics (UM), now finding for jobs and scholarships (measuring floor) May I ask what is your path after graduation? I can use a reference. =P |

So far the best pick for analysis programs would be the Lenovo V470, i7-2630QM + Intel HD3000@RM2599, quad core processor FTW; just use the remaining money to extend the warranty to 3 years, it'll be worth it~ haha, so ngam, I'm a Biotech graduate from UM as well. 1 year ahead of you, now pursuing phD in UM under the Bright Sparks Program This post has been edited by [PF] T.J.: Jun 1 2011, 02:45 PM |

Why will you suggest this one for analysis program? Any special features as compared to Toshiba? I need something that can last long, I've experience many products with auto-malfunction after warranty built-in system. My hope is to find something that can last me for minimum 5 years. XD whoa~ you're taking Bright Sparks, so you are a 1st class. All the best with publishing papers. >_< You working in IPS now? |

Wah, planning to get the Lumix LX5? Lenovo V470~ looking good, is the review ok? Why will you suggest this one for analysis program? Any special features as compared to Toshiba? XD whoa~ you're taking Bright Sparks, so you are a 1st class. All the best with publishing papers. >_< You working in IPS now? Yeah, laptops nowadays are quite cheap and yet powerful Don't really have any reviews for the V470 yet at the moment... Its better for analysis in a sense that it comes with a Sandy Bridge quad core processor (i7-2630QM: featuring 4 cores and 8 threads); The ones in Toshiba is either Sandy Bridge i3 or i5 (2 core 4 threads) Well, based on my experiences, getting a Toshiba or Fujitsu won't guarantee your laptop won't have problems. My gf bought a RM3.5k Toshiba premium series Satellite M500 which is faulty (unbelievable huh)... Tosh and Fujitsu may have stricter QCs, but sometimes it still depends on luck... The best is to make sure you have your laptop covered with warranty for 3 years so that you can at least use it for 3 years. Whether it lasts as long as 5 years depends on how good you take care of your laptop Yeah, working in IPS |
