Just bought a Toshiba Portege T230, as I was hunting laptop/netbook between 12"-13". Fed up with long waiting Asus 1215B E350.
But I found the cpu fan on this T230 was always spinning at high speed, and the cpu frequency at idle is quite high, 933Mhz, no changes for idle frequency when I play around with the processor power management settings under power options. But it does affects the frequency during load, like 933MHz drops to 600MHz when limits both min and max at 10%. But that idle frequency still unchanged. Bugs in BIOS control?

Grats on your purchase~ Wise choice choosing the T230, its a rather impressive lappy according to reviews. Do remember to register for your 1st year international warranty here: http://pc.toshiba-asia.com/portal/public/u...rentTab=service And you should create your 4 recovery discs (4 DVD+R) if haven't already. As for the fan speed, not very sure, haven't heard of complains regarding it yet... but you can check for driver updates here: http://pc.toshiba-asia.com/portal/public/d...rentTab=service

Yeah, the design was very nice. Already registered the warranty online, still left the recovery discs haven't created (wow, need 4 DVDs).
Just now using battery, I think it lasts at least 5.5-6hrs of usage before I switched to power supply. Sadly I saw a few complain on the net regarding the noisy fan. The cpu idle frequency set/fixed at 933MHz (power plugged in) or 533MHz (using battery power) seems to be an unsolved issue. Otherwise this laptop would be perfect for me. By replying this post only (no other activity), cpu fan speed now is 63% and the cpu temp is 44% from Toshiba PC health monitor.

Well, 4 is little compared to the 6 DVDs needed for Asus laptops
6 hours with Eco Utility and wifi? Not bad what LOL, just checked my Toshiba Health Monitor..... CPU temp is 44% and Fan Speed is 63% as well LOL

No, modded "Balanced" plan to suits my needs, and did run a few round of Fritz Chess Benchmark to adjust the cpu speed, not bad huh?
Errr, like that it seems the fan speed is normal for all Toshiba laptop? Like that maybe I'm too used to the old pentium T2330 fujitsu siemens design, that fan always ON/OFF and run with low speed until the cpu heavy loaded only run full blast for a short while, and I can set the cpu idle frequency using processor power management minimum setting, cpu full load frequency using maximum setting. For this Toshiba, it also can achieved that, but the cooling method under Toshiba Power Saver must set at Battery Optimised, so the maximum frequency is LIMITED to 666MHz only, cannot adjust beyond that.
Actually most Malaysian Toshiba models only has 1st year Regional warranty, btw voscar you're lucky to get to buy the T230, it's already EOL more than 1 month ago.

Yes abit lucky that shop still have stock and unopened unit, having hard time to find this T230, but it's still easier compare to Asus 1215B, which every shop will direct reply "not available" when I asked. T210 still available, right? Saw 1 shop selling RM1,899.
I've just download nvidia driver 270.61. I realize my laptop is 'faster' and 'lighter' than using previous driver which is 267.76. Have anyone try the new 270 family driver?Just want to justify my observation.

It is out already? I better try and install LOL.... Hopefully it will solve the problems of all M500 models (Which I doubt)

Grats on your purchase! Mind sharing a review on the unit? Using the latest version of BatteryCare? Not even sure whether the results indicated by the program is accurate or not Is the battery life affected by this?

Try use the battery until completely empty, then charge it to full, then check again the wear level..
