probably no.

Added on December 19, 2009, 1:02 pmoh ya, their said when their come to install Astro B.yond, you must return Astro Old decoder in GOOD COMDITION.  laugh.gif
*
Then, in other words, once you commit on B.yond, you better not turning back to SD, regardless what's going to happen in the future; ie, increase in charges. laugh.gif

Wow, I'm really missing out here. Heard that they're setting Isilon storage servers few months ago for HD content, but never thought it's be this quick.

Sorry to ask, how to subscribe and get it installed? What if the condo is using centralized dish, users just connect their decoder to the wall?

measat 3a Launched 21 June 2009, has 12 Ku-band and 12 C-band transponders, design life of 15 years

old measat 3 launched 11 December 2006, has 24 Ku/24 C band transponders

How many channel support by one transponder actually?

I think not much transponder left on Measet 3A because it already lease by some DTH (Direct-to-Home) TV company from India.
So new satelite if required to broadcast more HD channel

if the installer is patient enough, you can ask him to change the dish and decoder only then test with the current cable first to see if it's good enough. that's what i did and in the end no rewiring was done

Can register in their website or call them. For condo using centralised dish, unless the centralised dish upgrade to new Astro B.yond dish, you can't install Astro B.yond. sweat.gif

yes, BigTV from india occupied 8 KU-band transponder on older measat 3
I think astro has already reserved all ku-band transponders on measat 3a

Thanks for the explanation bro. Yup, Astro's website says they're liaising with building owners to upgrade, it'll take 18-24 months. sweat.gif

Time to contact my building management and push them to upgrade immediately. I hope Astro will help to upgrade the centralized infrastructure for free as with other individual customers. One building upgrade means it will cater to hundreds of houses so it make sense.

Wow! This topic is really hot. I just read through all 24 pages. Excited about getting HD now.

One burning question in my mind. I know this was discussed, but I am still a bit uncertain.

I have concealed dish-to-decoder cable now. Anyone knows if this cable can be used? I have no idea if it's 59 or 60, but my contractor last time said he put in a good one. I really wanna avoid hacking my walls or lay the cable out where it can be seen. Astro customer service (both the first level, the supervisor and the person who called me to verify order) said that the cable MUST (as in no choice at all since the old and new are different) be replaced alhough I doubt they're technically competent to know for sure. Someone said their technician was good enough to test, hope mine will take the effort as well.

negotiate with your installer, if you read previous few posts, some lyn member got their HD installation without putting in new cable

the installer will test out the old cable, if no-go then it must be replaced
