About the D5000, although it doesn't have built in AF motor, it have the CMOS censor which is the same (or similar i 4got) as D90. Maybe the IQ or noise control is not as good as D90 but it's the best in the current entry level line up of Nikon.

Hmm, it sounds like a good offer. Online shopping? I was wondering if you'd be able to find a local shop, cause then you're more likely to be able to bargain and grab yourself some freebies.

*
Nah... not online shopping. Just that one of the duty free shops here has that promotion smile.gif

if ur new and started to venture into dslr world, i recon u tried the body, which body more suitable for you.

in my case, if u planning to get 500d, make sure u really want tat video function. if not, do consider 40d as its price is kinda around new 500d price. 450d kitset price are lower than 40d body itself so.. its out of the question.

as a owner of 500d and 40d, the 40d are by far feels really like a quality tool plus the handling are excellent. the af are soo much faster than 500d. while 500d can boast up about the iso, video and megapixel.

and yes 40d is 1 class above 500d and discontinued already. but bear in mind tat the glass ( terms of lenses ) are also important. not to mention speedlight all the accessory that will require ur attention after you bought the dslr ;D

Hi people!

Going to get myself a new camera. Between these 3 cams : Canon EOS 450D, Nikon D5000 and Sony Alpha 330.

Any advice? Can someone compare for me the pros and cons of those 3 cams?

Budget is around 3k-4k.

Kinda new to photography, so sound kinda noob here. Sorry!

Thanks!

Not really, the difference is marginal. These two models are both entry-level models. Therefore the difference won't be big, if there is any. Just so you know, the Nikon's algorithm contains sharpening and touch-up elements, so what you see isn't the real deal. It's modified in camera. Definitely the Nikon's output would look better. This is a very subjective question though. So there is no definite answer.

Also, yes, auto focus does play a TINY role. In the Nikon's, their older lenses (example the 50mm 1:1.8D) don't have built in autofocus motors because it was made for film cameras which had no autofocus. The AF motors inside the body is to help the older lenses to focus.

If you're gonna compare the 450D to the A350, definitely the 450D will stand out. I've played with both previously, and even the stats of the 450D outmatch the A350. It's another subjective question, and if I voice out a little too much I'll be accused of fanboyism. So I shall recommend you to go ahead and scour Google, this forum and other forums for your answer.

Good luck on making up your mind.
*
Actually what define those models are entry level? Would the 450D consider as an entry level as well? After hours of research in other forums, Youtube and friend's recommendation, the choice I have to make more likely come from Canon. But which model would you recommend? The 450D or the 500D?

Would the image taken looks the same? I am not familiar with the 450D and in the previous reply. you did mention that you played with both previously and it should not be an issue to know the pro and cons regarding 450D compare to the 500D biggrin.gif. As I know there are two kits for 500D which are the 18-55 and the 18-200. Obviously 18-55 would be my thought as the beginner lens but what I have in doubt is whether it is easy to use even for a person like me learning about DSLR? 18-200 would not be my pick because it might have CA problem and the it will have slightly soft images compare to the 18-55. Another thing that I am curious is why the 18-200 is way more expensive compare to the 18-55? Just because it provide a better and wider zoom perception?

And thanks again TheWandererX for helping me out a lot.

Entry level budget? Oops, I won't be able to help with that.... but I reckon RM1000< would be good. (:

Lying in the below RM3k range would send a DSLR into entry-level (subjective). Objectively the entry level models are those with lower specifications specifically catered to new DSLR owners. Also, I'd definitely recommend the 450D over the 500D. I strongly protest against the redundant RM1k extra you have to pay for 2.x extra megapixels (which doesn't matter, 12.1 is already huge, not to mention my 1000D's measly 10.1) newer stuff etc which performs almost the same.

Also, definitely the 18-55. I used to recommend the 18-200 as a good all-purpose lens but after hearing from fellow members and trying it out myself... Definitely forget it. The 18-55 is as easy to use as a normal compact. Trust me it's not a challenge at all. Lastly, yes. Because of the zoom range, the price hikes.

I shall direct this part of the post to you two.

Firstly and definitely, I'd recommend the 450D. It's a RM3k camera, which has had its price reduced to RM2k. Good enough to make me buy it already. The D5000 is also a good DSLR though, don't get me wrong. I haven't got to try one out yet but trust me, if you make up your mind for the D5000, you won't regret a single bit either. Now to the 500D, it's merely a hyped-up 1000D (yes you got me right, 1000D) with SLIGHTLY better specifications and video. That's all.

To the Sony Alpha a330. I have not gotten a chance to play with it either. I don't really trust Sony though, they have TOO MANY entry-level cameras in the market as of now. I don't know how to comment on this because I being a Canon user might be misinformed about facts. Lemme tell you this though - I've played with the A200, A300 and A350 previously (the older models of the new replacements) and they were horrible. They couldn't compare to my 1000D at all.

Guess the 1000D has a name to live up to eh? It's been in the market for quite a while already.

Right. Thanks for the advice on the sony alpha!

What are the comparisons between 450D and D5000? D5000 is a tad more expensive, but is it worth the money? The pros and cons? Thanks bro!

New to the world of DSLR too. Played with Pro-sumers (Lumix-LX3) though. I understand that the D5000 does not have the built in AF motor, but what about the Canon 450D/500D? Without the built in AF motor, I would need to purchase lenses with AF motors?

How much does the D90 cost with basic kitlense?

Hey all, last week went to survey prices at Plaza Lowyat for 500D and D90...

Most of them offer RM3899 +/- for D90 kit (included 4gb + tripod + bag) while Boeing @ Sg. Wang offered RM4100 for the same package....

Which 1 is grey set and which 1 is ori set? How to recognize grey or ori besides the warranty card?

Just wondering, whether Canon's or Nikon's lenses are more expensive in comparison?

Wow! so many questions... sorry for spamming... oops.gif

Wow... that is a cool deal..!!!! thumbup.gif

So it is.. a F-mount AF lens with no VR function. Can state the reasons why you decided to get this instead of the kitlens? Still new to DSLR, especially when it come to lens. blush.gif
