New to the world of DSLR too. Played with Pro-sumers (Lumix-LX3) though. I understand that the D5000 does not have the built in AF motor, but what about the Canon 450D/500D? Without the built in AF motor, I would need to purchase lenses with AF motors?

How much does the D90 cost with basic kitlense?

So it is.. a F-mount AF lens with no VR function. Can state the reasons why you decided to get this instead of the kitlens? Still new to DSLR, especially when it come to lens.
