While this isn't a 4Mbps issue, it is a sync rate issue that prevents us from getting full psseed
After 5 calls to 100, 3 follow up calls, I managed to get my 2Mbps package with a 3Mb sync rate, with about 10dB hit on the SNR. But my previous one was 31dB, so all is good ![]() This post has been edited by kaiserreich: Jan 15 2010, 05:10 PM |

I upgraded my 1MB Streamyx package to 4MB package during their promotion last month. The technician dropped by yesterday morning to check on my line capability and was told that I can receive 4MB no problem.
He asked me to wait 24 hours and then restart my modem (wait 10-15mins) for the new 4MB line to be in effect. I did so early this morning prior to leaving for work and found that my line is still the same speed as before. I tried once again upon returning home and it was the same. Called 100 and was eventually passed to a 2nd Level Support. Explained the situation to him and he said he would call me back. He did return my call in about 5mins and told me that they have officially activated my line to 4MB. He requested me to restart the modem immediately for 10-15mins. I did so and sadly it was still the same. I then switched off my modem and this time waited 30mins but again it was the same. Here is the speedtest I got just 30secs ago: ![]() I called 100 again and they told me to get in touch directly with the technician to ask him to come over and reconfigure my settings. This is indeed a huge pain since I would have to take another half-day off just to accommodate him yet again. Is there anything I can do on my own? Any networking sifu can advice if I need to do any changes to my modem and router? Thanks in advance! |

Hmm, basically what I mentioned was, in no particular order:
Sync rate set at the speed where max i can reach is 87% of subscribed speed. Why am I paying so much for 87%? If sometimes 87%, sometimes 100%, its a different case. If they ask you to handle it at TM point, tell them that this is an IPNOC problem, not TM point. Tell them the solution to the 87% issue can be solved by increasing the sync rate to either 3mbps or 4mbps. This is important, as in my case, the CS called the NOC, and told me that the NOC set my port to 2mbps, which I told her that I need at least 3mbps to reach subscribed level. I am not really sure if this could be applied here, but I quoted the Mandatory Standards for Quality of Service (broadband) Determination No.1 2007 section 26.b.ii Source Which basically says the ISP needs to provide a minimum of 90% of the subscribed level, to the nearest BRAS. I didn't quote the BRAS part, since I have no idea what are BRAS. I only quoted that when the CS refuted my claim with the 'Company policy' of 80% of the speed. In my case, the CS keeps repeating the company policy, and I asked her to refer to her supervisor whether the IPNOC can help my case or not. Of course, your mileage may vary. My installer did help in that that he did want to ask for a higher capped but somehow failed, but promptly explained the issue to the CS when called. This helped my case a lot as majority of the 1st level CS probably thinks sync rate = subscribed package On a side note, it seems to appear that asking the CS to refer to his/her supervisor is better than telling the CS that you want to talk to the supervisor. lol the maxis fibre line advertised speed of "Here's Maxis Fibre To The Home speed: 80+M/s Download 13+Mb/s upload!!" is only locally..
test on kl ![]() fast? yea i agree its blazing fast. but to LA ![]() i lol'ed and he also claming his getting 600kb/s of download compare to 8-/+ mb/s he should be getting. think streamyx 4mbps is faster. can anyone using 4mbps line speedtest to LA and compare the results.
