Because at that screen size, some of us can see the difference between 720p/768p and 1080p. I mean, sure....i love how plasma recreates the correct and natural color tones and paints the deepest blacks, but i treasure higher resolution more than those. A lot of people dont know that you dont judge those LCDs and plasma arrays you see on display at showrooms immediately, because they are not calibrated. A proper calibration will get you close enough to how them plasma look, albeit with reduced black levels. That is good enough for me, and that is what i did to my Bravia X.

Ouch! thanks for sorting it out. Hmm.. so the 42" seems like a better buy than the 52" Kuro. Then again, by the time i'm ready to buy a new TV, who knows the prices might have gone waaaayyy down. biggrin.gif

I was surprised to see a 42 or was it 40" Sony W Series 1080p for RM 8999. They were playing Blu-ray Kung-Fu Hustle and it looked pretty good.

Welwitchia,

Just got off Ryan from Pioneer Malaysia, i was asking him about the BD-LX70A BD player. Asked him about the current Kuro models too, and the Kuro 42inch is RM9,999 while the Kuro 50 inch is priced at RM16,999 and of XGA scale, meaning it is only 768p. If you wanna go 1080p on the Kuros, you need to go up to the 50 and 60 inch model, which are priced at......*drumroll* RM34,999 and RM45,999 respectively. I nearly choked when Ryan revealed that.

wat is 24p?

the 2 models that i am looking, Hitachi p42a01a and LG 42pc5r are offering 1024 resolution only, is that 1080i or 720p?

Full HD for Plasma is over budget for me, asked one Hitachi 42" Full HD is bout 11k.
*
24p = 24 (frames per second) progressive. The movies we see in theatres (old and new) are all shot on film at 24 frames per second which gives it the cinematic feel. Some newer movies (ie Matrix, Star Wars 1-3 etc) which are shot digitally, continue the tradition of it being 24p.

It differs from Plasma/LCD resolution/video signal which is typically PAL 25p/50i or NTSC 30p/60i.

I also get confused at times... too many formats rclxub.gif

I judge by looking at skin tones. I know its not the right way but i hate looking at reddish skin tones.

I'm using one, but the 32 inch model. Hmm, CHEAP? You must be damn rich rclxms.gif

About the dvd, did you using dvd player with upscaling picture? If no maybe you can get one.
If yes, then you need to play with the setting. Not everyone have same taste.

It maybe not the newest model, but I think it more than enough.

Try feeding it with 720p source and you will see how good this baby is ! biggrin.gif

Went to Best Denki KLCC on Wednesday and saw this price tag.

46" 1080p Samsung monitor for less than 10k drool.gif drool.gif

Asked the sales person and he said it is for new monitor and not display unit.

Checked some reviews online on that as I was also suggested that model by a retailer and the main thing the reviews hated was the fact that 1 of the 2 HDMI ports is located in the front of the TV. Very unsightly. Also it has some weird 1080p resolution as it is not the typical 1900x1080 but something else, something to do with rectangular shaped pixels?
