In the event of a frontal crash, seat belt pretensioners remove slack from the vehicle’s shoulder belts at the moment of impact, which prevents the seat occupant from traveling too far forward before being restrained.
Like airbags, seat belt pretensioners are pyrotechnic devices triggered by the crash sensors. They operate in fractions of a second to ensure that a loose shoulder belt doesn’t allow the occupant to come too close to a deploying airbag or to contact the windshield or dashboard. Pretensioners do not use enough force to pull the occupants backward; they simply snug the belts up against the people’s bodies quickly at the onset of the collision, effectively catching them before they move too far forward. QUOTE(R.Y.D.E.C.K @ Dec 8 2009, 05:35 PM) QUOTE(singchaii @ Dec 8 2009, 07:00 PM) QUOTE(sphiroth @ Dec 8 2009, 08:08 PM) SRS= Secondary restrain system, such as airbags. I assume primary would be the safety belt. Not sure bout pre-tensioner though, but its prevent you from plunging forward during an accident, maybe also part of SRS. yeay!somebody explained it for me..thanx jcsatoga, i don't know when's the light supposed to lite, but most probably it's when something is wrong with the pre-tensioner system..here's a bit additional info,Pretensioners preemptively tighten the belt to prevent the occupant from jerking forward in a crash. In the event of a crash, a pretensioner will tighten the belt almost instantaneously. This reduces the motion of the occupant in a violent crash. Like airbags, pretensioners are triggered by sensors in the car's body, and most pretensioners use explosively expanding gas to drive a piston that retracts the belt. Pretensioners also lower the risk of "submarining", which is when a passenger slides forward under a loosely worn seat belt. An alternative approach being looked at by major car companies is the CG-Lock technology whereby the occupant is held in position via the lap belt in order to prevent the passenger from coming out of position in the event of a crash. I think pre-tensioner seat beat existed in most modern cars and it uses mechanical sensor to detect any sudden forward thrust. It's still the primary safety feature in all cars. SRS on the other hand like airbag is designed to supplement the seat belt in term of providing additional safety. I don't think there any electronic sensor link between those two especially in proton cars. Certain luxury or sports cars do have electronic sensor that monitor both of them.
p/s: in my most humble opinion, the indicator is still a 'seat belt not in use' warning light. Added on December 9, 2009, 10:44 am QUOTE(ahpaul82 @ Dec 8 2009, 09:50 PM) won't hurt one, press a slightly harder brake you will feel the Seat-belt tighten and it won't let you go in front further... or you can simply snap or pull forward the belt. If its stuck then its working... This post has been edited by VerM: Dec 9 2009, 10:44 AM |
