Hi guys!

I would really appreciate the assistance, newbie greenhorn here going to Hong Kong for first time with gf.

I have already found out all the prices-oceanpark,disneyland,food,etc..and budgeted correctly.

The only thing left is the transport/octopus card. How much will it cost to go to places in 7 days? This includes the transport to the peak, stanley, etc.

I heard 100 HK is enough for per person for 3 days. So would 400 hk for two people be enough for a week?

400hk for 2 ppl purely transport? should be okay if u din't take cab at all

If you have planned what kind of transport to take from one place to another, you can pretty much work out the cost of transport as well using this websites:
http://www.mtr.com.hk/jplanner/eng/planner_index.php
http://www.nwstbus.com.hk/home/default.aspx?intLangID=1

Should you have included Star ferry, HK tram, Fast ferry, you may also check the fare from their official sites.

anyway, with the recent climate changes, can anyone confirm the weather in HK & Macau during the first week of march.
would it be like genting highlands temperature during that time?

also, to save some cost, planning to put 3 person in a 2pax hotel room... do ppl in hong kong check this?

If 7 days, I would opt for a 2x3 days Airport Express Travel Pass and a Tourist pass.

Maybe Day 1-3 - Travel Pass > Day 4 - Tourist Pass > Day 5-7 - Travel Pass
But I'm not sure the travel pass can be used from Airport to normal MTR station on the first day smile.gif

I rarely take bus during my time in HK. Only took once the DingDing tram just for the experience. The rest are MTR + walking + cab(late night)

Yeap. Get the tourist pass will save a lot for a week.

Another thing can consider is try to schedule and plan ur trips properly can further help save more. Like covering one area per day to minimize transport cost.

HI!

Thanks for all the replies guys!

I have looked into the travel pass before but they said it was not worth it as the package would not include buses and it would actually cost more overall compared if you top up independently?

Note: The transport is not including the HK to Macau trip, I have already budgeted correctly for that trip since the prices are clear on the day/night trips. The only problem is the octopus card as the places I want to go/ and might go once there are vague. So I just need a rough estimate. For example, if I am staying at Lee Guest House at Cameroon Road, within the span of 7 days I will be going to Peak, Buddha, Oceanpark,Disneyland, Temple Street, Stanley, Repulse Bay, Ladies market, Jade Market, Abardeen, Western market, Jumbo Seafood, Caprice restaurant at Four seasons, Happy Valley Racecourse, bus to first ferry for trip to macau, and other random places. Some places are free of course like Victoria Harbour is 10 minutes walk from my place.

Thanks again guys! Is it better if I put in 600 for transport for 2 instead of 400 then?

On another note, I heard it is better to change currency inside Hong Kong as they give better rates. Is that true?

Do not get the Macau Pass (similar to octopus card) if you are only travelling for a day or two. You you need to go to their HQ or counter to get refund for unused credits and deposit. So prepare lots of coins or just get cab. There will be free shuttle bus but not to some places.

If bus, you need to have loads of credits inside your octopus. Most of the places you mentioned are reachable by MTR. Only some need MTR + bus and walk a short distance.

reporting in from HK now. Mongkok to be exact. weather is freaking cold now. yesterday is around 20 degrees. a bit hotter than Genting coz i went to Genting on Saturday. But today, weather forecast shows its 12 degrees outside, with a bit of rain, its really cold, don't even dare to open the window.

btw, i have went to The peak, Avenue of Stars, Mongkok lady street. will be here for another 2 days before departing to Macau. Any other nice place to visit?
I am travelling alone, so didn't plan to go any Disneyland or Ocean Park. And got any special food that is a must try in HK? tried their curry fish ball, not really that good. The fish ball is like our keropok lekor, soft soft 1.
