northasian... yea, its similar except w/ a swing bar enclosing oneself in front, and you leg are basically danggling in mid air.  smile.gif

Then I think they are the same one... the ski lift is also with the manual swing bar in front of you, and our legs are danggling in the air, with ski some more... hehee.... I failed to "get off" the ski lift safely every time... 'coz the ground of "getting off point" was all ice and slippery, I fell off every time and the staff needed to stop the lift... tongue.gif

QUOTE(yazoo @ Nov 25 2009, 08:46 PM)
Hi there northasian,
Hi yazoo

I'll be going to Hong Kong in the middle of next month. I have a few questions I hope you won't mind answering them :

1.) I'll be going there with my wife and 2 kids ( both above 11 yrs old ). Through out my stay there for the most part I'll be booking two rooms - I'm staying at Disney's Hollywood Hotel, Wifi Hotel & Dorsett Seaview plus one night in Shenzen. However on my last night in Hong Kong, I decide it's better for us to be closer to the airport as our flight the very next day is at 10am, hence, my decision of booking at a deluxe room in Novotel Citygate.

My question is, will it be okay for the four of us ( all deem as adult ) to crash in one room...for just one night, as I don't mind sleeping in my sleeping bag on the floor ! I mean will that be against the hotel policy. Even Agoda.com would ask for the name of all registered occupants.
I think it depends on each hotel's policy. I've ever worked in a local 4 stars hotel, they strictly prohibited 4 adults staying in 1 room due to the fire safety reason. While I have a relative who often visiting HK, they always come with 6-8 persons each time but another 4-star hotel allows them to squeeze in 1-2 rooms only! So I think it really depends...

2. ) Is it a good idea to buy a phone sim card over there in HK to make a call back home, or use my 012 ?
As I'm not familiar with the rate of using local sim card and using your M'sia roaming service to make long-d calls, so sorry that I can't give comment on this.... I think you can first check the rate with your M'sia mobile company, then when you reach HK, asked the rate before you decide to buy or not buy a local sim card...

Thanking you in advance.

I think it's over already.. actually I didn't even know about this promotion... tongue.gif HK people are not that keen on KFC indeed. In HK, Mcdonalds is far more popular than KFC, while in M'sia, as per my fiance, KFC is more popular.. is that true?
Is the chairlift you all talking about like those ski lift? Just a 2-seater chair hanging on the cable?

Actually we went to KFC for the portugese tart then i saw the wasabi flavor so we gave it try! Very yummy! I personally prefer McD than KFC.

I might sound a bit racist but this is based on my observation.
In Malaysia, Malays prefer KFC and Chinese prefer McD.

No, never mind that's okay. Thanks anyway. I think I'll leave me cell phone and just bring my lap top to get in touch with my parents back home.

Read Day 1 of your blog.

I stayed the same Dragon Hostel twice like you. Nothing much to complain about as it is a place to sleep only.

The cheapest fare I used to travel from Airport to Dragon Hostel is only HKD17-18. How bout you??

Oh really? Weird situation ne... In HK, KFC is far LESS popular... HK people will prefer BurgerKing than KFC if there is no Mcdonalds around...

Hi

First of all thanks and bravo to all of you who have contributed to this website because with all your info, I have chosen HK instead of Taiwan as my holiday destination.

I am going to HK next week on 13 so there is some questions that I would like to clarify

i) I am a burberry blue lable fan and has intention of getting a handbag in HK and have recently come across a chain of parallel importers called SACCESSORI which claims to sell authentic branded handbags. Because there is so many fake ones that really look very genuine, I wonder if this shop is reputable in selling genuine products like the Queen save in Singapore. In Singapore, I am trust of the shop claim in authenticity because the Singapore govt is very strict in fighting counterfeits compared to HK which so near mainland China, the motherland of all fake goods. Will burberry London in HK be cheaper compared to the ones in KL

ii) I also intend to buy winter clothing for my future trips for places that snows in HK. Where would you guys and girls suggest that sell winter jacket which is of reasonable price and good quality within budget of less than RM250

iii) How do we claim back the VAT that we paid if the shop does not have the service to deduct the tax before hand?

iv) According to some of the site, the citygate mall selling goods like handbags or shoes which are cheaper because they have defects and they are ‘second’ and I am sure it is not second hand products right?

v) Is it safe to walk in the streets at night after 10 pm?

I think that is all.

Thanks a lot

Reading this thread brought back so much memories from last year's trip to Hong Kong/Macau, for a good 9 days.
It was horrendously HOT back then, in September, and we came back lighter even though ate like hungry souls.

Here's the complete day by day posts on our journey, complete with the expenses, and various information :

Day One - Arriving in Macau (Largo do Senado, Yishun Milk Company, Rude Macanese)
Day Two – St. Paul’s Ruins, The Venetian, Taipa Village, Margaret’s Portuguese Egg Tarts
Day Three – Arriving in Hong Kong (Mong Kok, Temple Street, Hui Lau Shan Desserts)
Day Four Part 1 – Lantau Island & Kam Wah Cafe’s Polo Bun
Day Four Part 2 – Avenue of Stars & Symphony of Lights
Day Five Part 1 – Dimsum @ Lin Heung Tea House, Central & Golden Bauhinia Square
Day Five Part 2 – Madame Tussauds Wax Museum @ THE PEAK
Day Six Part 1 – A Day’s Out in Ocean Park
Day Six Part 2 – Mong Kok’s Street Food and Red Ant Baked Rice
Day Seven Part 1 – Shopping in Shatin
Day Seven Part 2 – Lan Kwai Fong’s Buzzing Nightlife, Tai Cheong’s Egg Tarts, and Tsim Chai Kee Noodles
Day Eight Part 1 – Last Day in Hong Kong (Soy Milk + You Tiao for Breakfast?)
Day Eight Part 2/Last Day - Goodbye MACAU (DUMBO Portuguese Restaurant, Ruins of St Paul & Largo do Senado at night)

I am tempted to go again, but have to check the weather forecast indefinitely! Never go during summer .....

I just came back frm HK last week. Perhaps can share some info with you. I went to Wong Tai Sin Temple on Thursday morning around 9.30am, there are many people but I would say the crowd is manageable. When I was there so happen there's a group (tour) arrive.... hence a bit more people. Or if you really want to beat the tourist, I would think around 7-8am is best because then the tourist will not be out yet smile.gif

Btw, u'll feel very save to walk around in HK even after 10pm. In fact i stayed at MongKok and when i reached the MTR around 11.30 to go back to the hostel, I was shocked that there are still loads of people walking around!! wink.gif

In Singapore, I am trust of the shop claim in authenticity because the Singapore govt is very strict in fighting counterfeits compared to HK which so near mainland China, the motherland of all fake goods. Will burberry London in HK be cheaper compared to the ones in KL
Actually there are quite a lot of parallel importers selling Burberry Blue Label in HK, SACCESSORI is one of those, and besides, YMK is another one with more branches and more established one. You can refer to their official website :
http://www.ymk.com.hk/eng/ They are granted the rewards from some HK gov't bodies, so they are reliable too. I would recommend this shop more than SACCESSORI.

I'm not sure if Burberry London in HK would be cheaper than Malaysia, but as I observed previously, most big brands like LV, BV, Gucci...etc. are cheaper in HK than Malaysia. You can do a research in KL first, then come here to see if it's cheaper. But I am sure the items sold in HK are "newer" than Malaysia.

ii) I also intend to buy winter clothing for my future trips for places that snows in HK. Where would you guys and girls suggest that sell winter jacket which is of reasonable price and good quality within budget of less than RM250
If you're look for a quality down-feather jacket, I'm afraid you might have to allow a bigger budget on that. They are normally at least HKD500... Professional brands like Northface, Columbia, Lafuma, and Eikowada...etc. will cost even a double. You can find Northface and some other brands at lower price in The Outdoor Shop (http://www.theoutdoorshop.com.hk/default.php). Some fashion brands do produce down-jackets, like Esprit (but not cheap, can look at their Outlets instead), Bossini, Giodano, the Japanese brand Uniqlo, and also H&M, you can try to have a look there.

iii) How do we claim back the VAT that we paid if the shop does not have the service to deduct the tax before hand?
There is NO VAT in HK. So no money have to be claimed.

iv) According to some of the site, the citygate mall selling goods like handbags or shoes which are cheaper because they have defects and they are ‘second’ and I am sure it is not second hand products right?
The full name of Citygate mall is Citygate OUTLET mall. So shops inside are mainly outlets of reputable local or international brands. Therefore no worry about the second handed stuff problem. I found most of them are from last season but still in good and unused condition. You can try to ask for new stock if they have, no need to but the display one on the racks.

v)        Is it safe to walk in the streets at night after 10 pm?
This is NOT a problem at all la~! 10pm is nothing to HK people... I always walk alone to home after midnight. And it's even not a problem if in busy districts like Mongkok & Tsim Sha Tsui. Some shops closed at 11-11:30pm there.

I think that is all.

Thanks a lot

Hm... this one I can't really tell 'coz I haven't been there for agesssssss... I think it's less crowded on weekdays, but as what fissel said, if you come across group tour(s), then too bad... tongue.gif

The official one is only sold in Japan, but you also can find them in HK 'coz they are what we called "water goods" in Cantonese... means Parallel import. They are not fake goods, but just not sold by official distributors, i.e. Burberry Blue Label.
