Airport Express cannot reach Yau Ma Tei directly. You have to interchange Tsuen Wan Line at Lai King Station, and get off at Yau Ma Tei Station finally. I think taking a bus will be more convenient than AEL.... You can take A21 bus, then alight at either Man Ming Lane or Nathan Hotel. You can refer here :
https://www.nwstbus.com.hk/routes/routeinfo...&exactMatch=yes

thanks northisan, but i see on the map, by taking airport express, there is stop at kowloon rite, so can i alight there and take a cab to dorsett? or should i get down a hk stop and take cab from there?

If you plan to take a cab, then of coz get off at Kowloon Station la.... 'coz the hotel is at the Kowloon side, if you get off at Hong Kong Station, it's at the Hong Kong Island side, and you've to pay for tunnel fee for the cab 'coz it needs to cross the harbour. Was your friend making joke with you? tongue.gif

the crystal cabin cable car is = ngong ping 360. The difference is just the bottom and the price.

Newton Place Hotel is located in Kwun Tong, it's mainly industrial/commercial + residential area, but not close to major shopping area. It got MTR station but it take roughly 8-10 stops to get to Mongkok & Tsim Sha Tsui. Strongly NOT recommend you to stay there.

rclxub.gif  i would have been crying if i were in the cabin

IT IS SO SCARY! The base is transparent!

cry.gif  even Genting or the Ocean Park Cable car is scary enough for me..

thanks for the photo!

fu... scary.  I think i will skip the crystal cabin when i go to NP next year...
*
actually its not really that scary... compared to some higher up building, eg. the Macau Tower which is much higher from the ground. smile.gif unless the glass floor is crystal clear w/o any scratches (which really is dissapointing if u ask me for such new ride), then it would be more scary. so dont worry lah. its HK we are talking about... not mainland China. biggrin.gif

The crystal cabin is so cool.

Here's one tip to overcome fear of taking cable car:
once in the cable car, take out your camera and start snapping. I bet once you are busy taking pictures, sure "forget" to be scared.

I worry also about the safety, cause it cross sea and moutains, but my gf laugh and tease at me all the time while we are in the cabin. But enjoy the view so much.

For those who have "cablecarobia", there's an option of getting to Ngong Ping Village by the New Lantau Bus. Previously, there's promotion for unlimited all day bus rides.

@moody5
there's this chairlift in China, go across the valley, with legs half hanging in the air, once reach the other side, must get ready to jump off the seats.. more scary ah..

u got a pix of the chairlift? i've taken cable car ride in Guilin, and it's not enclosed like those in HK (or even Genting) and its quite a long journey up to the top one of the mountain. and when you reach the upper station, basically the staff will YANK (yes... YANK) you out of the cabin... and that is a very unpleasant experience especially when you are not ready to be yank out of the cabin - btw, the cable car fits 2-person only, so imagine how small it is. so just wonder if its the same as the chairlift you mentioned.

Same like the one in Guilin (I took that too), that's the chair lift. Although it says Cable Car Station. Basically, just a chair, and you need to standby in position, wait till the chair arrives then sit on it (more like the chair scoop you up, lol) and the staff then swing the bar down to block you in front. Later, upon reaching, there's a signboard asking you to lift up the bar. Then get ready to jump off the seat. The chairs just move continuosly without stopping. The one over the valley, is at Kunming. Kena hiked up many steps to see the cliffs/caves then the return trip is to take the chairlift.

Btw, if want to compare, though I'm not scare, I'd say Ocean Park Cable Car is scarier than the NP360. I felt that the Ocean Park Cable Car swings more, coz of the strong wind from the open sea at one side. The NP360, only the first part is to get across the sea, after that it goes gradually up the hill. And if look down, seems quite close to the ground and can see the hiking path.

I think it's over already.. actually I didn't even know about this promotion... tongue.gif HK people are not that keen on KFC indeed. In HK, Mcdonalds is far more popular than KFC, while in M'sia, as per my fiance, KFC is more popular.. is that true?

Is the chairlift you all talking about like those ski lift? Just a 2-seater chair hanging on the cable?

Ocean Park Cable Car is much older than NP360, that's why it swings more, and maybe becoz it's lighter in weight...

yeap... exactly the same experience. just hate it when they yank me outta the car/cabin... and its quite dangerous if you dont balance yourself well coz the whole car actually swings when people are exiting (o rather being yanked out) of the cabin.

agree w/ u... somehow NP360 seems to be... not so high compared to Ocean Park cable car, probably coz the cable car @ Ocean Park is actually interconnecting 2 hill, atleast it seem to me like that. hmm.gif

Hi there northasian,

I'll be going to Hong Kong in the middle of next month. I have a few questions I hope you won't mind answering them :

1.) I'll be going there with my wife and 2 kids ( both above 11 yrs old ). Through out my stay there for the most part I'll be booking two rooms - I'm staying at Disney's Hollywood Hotel, Wifi Hotel & Dorsett Seaview plus one night in Shenzen. However on my last night in Hong Kong, I decide it's better for us to be closer to the airport as our flight the very next day is at 10am, hence, my decision of booking at a deluxe room in Novotel Citygate.

My question is, will it be okay for the four of us ( all deem as adult ) to crash in one room...for just one night, as I don't mind sleeping in my sleeping bag on the floor ! I mean will that be against the hotel policy. Even Agoda.com would ask for the name of all registered occupants.

2. ) Is it a good idea to buy a phone sim card over there in HK to make a call back home, or use my 012 ?

Thanking you in advance.
