Scribes?

Any info on customized Scribes? ( Not that I'm interested )

Good choice of stuff at Ikano, especially the Saphirs The down side is dealing with the bespectacled lady who is a typical charm school drop out at the counter . No complaints about the workmanship & repairs
*
That lady would be the boss' wife; very unsophisticated. Not very smart either. I'm sure she was once a pretty girl. I normally talk either to the boss or the other lady.

But they always deliver meticulous workmanship, and the workers are sensitive to the needs of the shoe. They are also very responsive to my custom requests.

You should have seen the difference between the cobbling my Church's came in and what they did. The Singaporean cobbler was an absolute hack. The shoes were completely out of balance, and the glue job amateurish. The boss laughed at what he saw. "You had this done in Singapore? Hahahah. Look, look, this is a Singaporean job," he showed his wife.

I had two shoes done there. One with Continental Corso soles and the other with thinner (and more expensive) material. Very satisfied with the work.

I believe the Continental soles are RM50 and the thinner material is RM100.

whats SF approve?
J&M here is sure expensive, US is like everyday brand
*
you can say that again. j&m is very much overpriced and the only way to purchase it here is during sales.

sf=style forum. as the name suggests, it is a forum for the discussion of men's style. it is akin to the 'holy bible' to becoming a sartorialist. based on my limited involvement there, those sf approved shoes include berluti, john lobb, c&j, cheaney etc. luxury brands 'hardly' survive the discussion there and will be pawned at no time.

thanks for the information. it is very much appreciated.

i saw a few J&M at the local store, selling well below rm600 per pair and i thought it was a good deal. i didn't check where were they made of. however, after given a deep thought, i went for something from uk, something i am familiar with, something not SF approved.

Looks good, Bordeaux is a unique colour. Did you get a Bordeaux wax/cream with it?

not yet but planning to get a couple of Saphirs this weekend from the cobbler in Ikano. currently i am only applying beeswax conditioner.

what shoe care are you applying for your Cheaney/Loake in suede?

oh, for those uninformed, the cobbler also furnish refurbishing and repairing services for luxury goods. i know a couple of luxury brands are using the said services.

I don't think they have Bordeaux. Just clear, tan, mid brown, brown and black.

Suede I hardly care for. Sometimes vacuum, sometimes brush with the crepe brush. I have a impregnator for it that I applied once when new.

The workmanship is not in contention, it's having to deal with the bespectacle dragon at the counter.

Saphirs are great. They really bring life to the shoes.
I would use the Renovateur to soften & protect the leather, cream in the correct color & finish off the shine with Saphir's Pate de Luxe to give it that extra shine.

Might be cheaper if you order them on line .

There's a shop in Sri Hartamas that specializes in leather restoration. I'm having an old pair of shoes restored there.

Feel free to pm me if you are interested in the source for both

I bought a tin of a shoe wax the other day. It is a brand none of you have probably heard of. The reason I bought it was because it was mahogany colour -- a nearly impossible to find colour locally -- and I applied a layer and just came back from buffing off with a horsehair brush.

Mai f***ing God. Shiny like hell, and the solvent is organic turpentine (same as Saphir). Fantastic. RM5. Will be buying more!!

The third Ferero Gamo from left and the Church's are very nice. They look like very recent acquisitions.

You need a pair in tan/chesnut.

Damn! That atrocious pair of clunky Timberlands are driving me up the wall. Only Harith Iskandar would wear those.

Those basikal toes would be another story.

The suede loafers are nice.

Ferragamos are comfortable but the ones to get are the "Tramezza" Good Year welted range.

My dislike of them stems from the lack of robustness as compared to Church's

Care to share your find?

$5 versus the factor of four for Saphir would make it a good buy

thats a new term. Do sartorialist judge fashion? my limited googling skills didn't seem to pt to that.

aren't berluti, john lobb etc luxury brands??? a quick google they are not any cheaper than lux brands such as Paul smith, Hugo Boss etc.
they cost more than a custom made shoes by a unknown shoe maker in Italy!
these lux brand go again the "holy bible" the Satan of shoe fashion? tongue.gif

seem like this is their only approved list. wear something and still need to seek approval to feel good. wow..really need help man. sweat.gif
