I have a pair of boat shoes from Allen Edmonds which has repairable soles. The repair service is excellent & I have been using it for some years. They recently sent me a free pair of shoes when there was an inordinate delay in repairing my shoe without me having to request it. Now that is service you don't see in Malaysia!!
*
free pair!!! don't have to return after they fix your shoes.
how much did they charge for their service?

quote=attacusatlas,Aug 15 2010, 10:26 PM]thanks for the information. it is very much appreciated.

i saw a few J&M at the local store, selling well below rm600 per pair and i thought it was a good deal. i didn't check where were they made of. however, after given a deep thought, i went for something from uk, something i am familiar with, something not SF approved.
[/quote]

which UK brand?

J&M is expensive here < 600RM!
I am thinking of A Testoni.. Italian.. anyone have experience with them?
something like the design below.

you can say that again. j&m is very much overpriced and the only way to purchase it here is during sales.

sf=style forum. as the name suggests, it is a forum for the discussion of men's style. it is akin to the 'holy bible' to becoming a sartorialist. based on my limited involvement there, those sf approved shoes include berluti, john lobb, c&j, cheaney etc. luxury brands 'hardly' survive the discussion there and will be pawned at no time.
*
thats a new term. Do sartorialist judge fashion? my limited googling skills didn't seem to pt to that.

aren't berluti, john lobb etc luxury brands??? a quick google they are not any cheaper than lux brands such as Paul smith, Hugo Boss etc.
they cost more than a custom made shoes by a unknown shoe maker in Italy!
these lux brand go again the "holy bible" the Satan of shoe fashion? tongue.gif

seem like this is their only approved list. wear something and still need to seek approval to feel good. wow..really need help man. sweat.gif

AE's are definitely a good buy. If you're in the US can also enquire on seconds (factory rejects) and save some $$.
*
Good info, 2 pair for usd$250 now on those. Too bad I ordered already.
http://putthison.com/post/44713042282/its-...-factory-second

Update
The above info is incorrect, the factory seconds not that cheap. Just got a list discount items, only discountinued ones are at 50% off.

Hey Patryn... so you're into shoes as well eh?
Just started this high end shoe thingy so still learning the ropes.
Alden come highly recommended but I will give Allen Edmonds a try.
*
Not really, my shoes take more abuse lol
Have to endure rain, snow and lots of walking. Not a banker or VP to wear usd$500-2k shoes around. No matter how good is the handy work or how good is the leather I doubt they can take such abuse.

*
Going where in Europe?
Many brands suggested are uk alot brands cheaper in uk compared to the rest if EU.
Going Budapest can get Vass.
Spain maybe mermin
Italy u can find local shoemaker to custom make shoes.

Depending where u are going shoes to look out for is a little different

www.kulitkraf.com, one of the best value-for-money shoes I got so far......$80-200 range, design is conservative but it's comfortable (for the price). Outlasted my $400 timberland (terrible quality)....or check out Parkson sales. They sometimes give huge discounts. Or Clarkes at 1 Utama has shoes for your price range.
*
400 u pay to get a timberland 200 goes to local shop.
All foreign brands here are costly.
I pay only 100 for my timberland boots and they last.

Allen edmond having a Columbus week factory seconds sale.
Flatiron retails usd$345 now usd$179.
Lasalle retails usd$295 now usd$129

Ya but when I bought them, I was a little naive and bought into the whole timberland marketing thing. hmm.gif Where did you get timberlands for $100?

Thanks for the info on AE's. Is it through nordstrom.com website?
*
Timberland outlet!
AE u have to email cacmail@allenedmonds.com, give then your size and they will get back to u what's avail.
U have to call them at (800) 235-2348 to order.
They don't ship overseas so u have to use a mail forwarder to get your stuff. Good thing is shipping in the states is free with no min order!

From the image above, generally speaking, if you add-on an additional layer on the back heel (the half rubber cover heel area of the image), compensate it by adding the same add-on to the 2nd sole area. Else instead of making it more durable, the change in construction will make it less durable and thereby actually reducing it's life span.

Really? This is commonly done by dudes on style forum to prolong life. Are those wrong?
