This thread is to discuss the best shoes made in the traditional way: The highest quality uppers of incomparable depth and sheen, an absorptive insole of leather, a conforming bed of cork, and a tough leather outsole. Long-lasting, beautiful and with a hospitable climate within the shoe, they bring old world elegance and taste to wherever the wearer goes.

Interesting. I wouldn't get my hopes up too high, but might pop in someday soon.

For the first time ever, I bought something off ebay from Malaysia. I'm hoping paypal etc. will work out and that I won't need to go to customs. I've eyed vintage Florsheim Imperials even during my university days, but where I studied they were very expensive even in ebay. On the American ebay they're much cheaper and plentiful. They don't look very elegant, but they're so unusual by modern standards I must try a pair for myself. It's obvious they're built in a way few shoes are anymore.

No, these shoes share no resemblance to the modern Florsheim. Somewhere in the late 80's/early 90's Florsheim went into Chapter 13 (bankrupt) and outsourced production to India and made everything differently. The pair above were made from the 60's to 80's.
I'm sort of hoping they have oak-tanned insoles (2 year tanning process) and real Goodyear welting. On a German shoe forum, a bespoke shoemaker took apart a modern C&J Handgrade and found the insole made of compacted leather fibers and the use of a canvas-something instead of real Goodyear welting.

QUOTE(e_trade_pj @ Oct 1 2009, 07:47 PM) i think only something like this, hardware shop.. [attachmentid=1225727] i just stand by another pair of shoes for all weather in my car, for just in case... I sort of was looking for something more elegant than wellingtons.

I've seen those before. I haven't found anything compelling there. (They're all Italian.)

I think shoes should be some shade of brown. Anything from tan to oxblood is preferable to black. Leather looses all it's organic charm when dyed black. The pic is overexposed because of the dark carpet. The trousers are cream. I think brown shoes work with everything except black or charcoal. Here you see the great Giugiaro (designer of the first VW Golf, the Fiat Punto, and the Nikon F3) wearing a darkish suit with brown shoes to great effect. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zYugHu7_D4U Added on October 10, 2009, 11:06 pmCan't help it. That's exactly what I'd say too. Keep woly, throw everything else away. Also, buy a horsehair brush for each wax colour.

Cheany's. RM 699.
I wanted a Loake 758 (RM 621), but it wasn't so hot. Last a bit boxy, and the nap not as luxurious as the Cheany's.
Three suede Cheany's in my size, and one in tobacco was very, very nice. However, this chocolate has shorter nap and more distinct brouging, and simply looks more formal, which is an advantage because I need dual-use shoes.

This is the Loake 758. It made me salivate the whole week. Yours for RM 621. But when I tried it on, it wasn't anywhere as good as the Cheany's or the Loake 1880 I have.
