Latest News and Reviews News [Engadget]AMD to bring six-core 'Thuban' processor to the consumer realm Look out, Intel -- six cores are mightier than four, don'tcha know? Shortly after introducing a six-core processor in the server sector, AMD is reportedly angling to issue a hexa-core chip over on the consumer side. The chip maker has confirmed to Maximum PC that a six-core slab of silicon (codenamed Thuban) will be released in 2010, with the real kicker being that it'll be fully backwards compatible with existing AM3 and AM2+ mainboards. (Fud)8-core Bulldozer is first Likely early 2011 We’ve learned that AMD’s truly next generation CPU codenamed Bulldozer should be out of the labs in late 2010. This is not Deneb / Phenom done right, it's a complete new architecture. Since this is AMDs brand new architecture, the company is optimistic about it and we believe that initial shipments won’t start until much later in 2011. We also learned that Bulldozer at start comes as an eight core CPU, but we would not exclude the possibility of other core iterations. Intel plans to have Sandy Bridge, its new 32nm architecture in 2011 and plans a refresh in 22nm called Ivy Bridge. (Fud)Tigris 2009 AMD notebook platform Has four CPUs AMD's platform that should get the chipmaker better Xmas notebook sales is simply called Tigris and it includes four different CPUs. The top one, is carried with AMD Turion II Ultra M600 series and 2.7GHz is the fastest of them all. It comes with 2MB L2 cache and 35W TDP. The runner up is AMD Turion II M500 series and M520 is the fastest one clocked at 2.3GHz. it comes with 1MB cache and not so impressive 35W which is quite a lot for mobile dual-core. Third in line is AMD Athlon II M300 series and M320 works at 2.1 GHz has 1 MB of cache and this dual-core also features an unimpressive 35W TDPs. The last in line is single-core Sempron M100 series and its fastest representative works at 2.0GHz has 512KB cache. This one has 25W TDP, not so great for a single-core, but bear in mind that AMD has a 2nd generation ultra mobile“ platform with somewhat milder TDPs. It should be a good idea to remind you that all four of these different CPUs are based on the Caspian processor. QUOTE(antonio @ Sep 22 2009, 05:45 AM) The reason I drop it because, after a long night of reading, I concluded that running more than 1600mhz doesn't really does anything in terms of performance of AMD Phenom 2...unless AMD strikes out with another architecture or a newly CPU revision, the current Phenom 2 is best perform at CL6 1333 (DDR3) or CL5 1200 (DDR2) sir... can u gimme the link about the bolded part... ![]() i also want to know more...but by the bench, max cl6 i can go is being smoked by max cl7 score... only by everest bench..no any other benchies.. |

Last time I remembered that AMD needs bandwidth in order to perform while Intel chips may prefer tight timings... Nowadays already the other way round... QUOTE(antonio @ Sep 22 2009, 07:55 PM) owh sure...here it is...and here I thought AMD always preferred tight timings where as Intel needed the bandwidth? I stuck to that decision but I wasn't sure to go for timings for bandwidth, good to know that. During my AMD 939 days, I own both BH-5 and TCCD based chipset ram....the BH-5 would top out around 250-260-ish while the TCCD will make around 280 with 2.5-4-4-8 at 1.8v while the BH-5 needs at least 3.5v... |
