@rip_code,
There's been a couple of forummers who's reported Maxis changed their SIM cars to 64k cards. Perhaps your 128kb SIM doesn't work too well with the iPhone? *shrugs*

I'm not really sure about this. Apparently, my Maxis Postpaid is using 128K. Suppose shouldn't be any problem or perhaps, Celcom using different way to broadcast? Will ask Celcom whether they still producing 64K sim card. *sigh*

Yeah, surfing is indeed a lot faster. However, at times the WIFI connection would not respond even though it is connected. At times it would drop off and then reconnect. Maybe it is my router. However there's a lot of such complaints over the Apple iPhone forum.

seriously, i never have this problem.....
i was on wifi 24-7 at my hometown... ( well, i seldom go out... just stay at home and hang out with my parents) and i never have such kind of problem....

@rip_code,
I've just double checked with a friend; he apparently had issues with "call dropping" - Maxis issued him a new card and his new SIM card is the 129k card.

*Edited*
128k SIM card, not 129k tongue.gif

I just posted it - http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/868281/+11

It worked for me before I upgraded my firmware, anyone knows if it still works with latest upgrade?
*
I tried downloading the file and tethering doesn't seem to work.
I am on official unlock and using Celcom line.
FW 3.1 - both USB and BT tethering doesn't seem to work.
In fact I have problem connecting my Mac to the iPhone 3GS. Although both iPhone and Mac can be paired.

Does it mean, Apple only encourage tethering on Official Networks (like Maxis) only..?

Actually I am suspecting it has something to do with my router because I don't have this problem when connecting to other WIFI. However, I don't use them long enough to see this a potential problem.

Technically Apple only encourage tethering with Maxis only because it is their official service provider in Malaysia. It is only exclusive to Maxis. I am not so sure but I think we can patch this up with ipcc file uploading. If you plan to use other service provider.

Many iphone owners around the world are complaining after the 3.1 upgrade, they no longer able to do tethering...

Is there any App store app that can help to do tethering?

If I'm not mistaken, iTunes 9 + fw3.1 disable the IPCC hack and the IPCC files must be signed by Apple.

QUOTE
Update 3: As of 3.1, the *.ipcc carrier bundles are signed, and you can no longer force tethering capability simply by crafting your own bundle.  The good news is this obstacle can probably be overcome by virtue of the jailbreak.  But so far that extra hack is not part of the PwnageTool custom IPSW creation.

Do you think downgrading back to 3.0.1 will solve the problem?

Caller ID fix does not solve the dash thing @ phone format. It fixed the number matching so when some call you, it will match the number to the name in address book either with the international prefix or not.

What you need is Caller ID and Format Fix (actually u only need the Format Fix) under Localization in Cydia or you can do it manually if you are on the technical side by replacing Default.phoneformat in /System/Library/PrivateFramework/AppSupport.framework with a modified one.

QUOTE
Only replace system files manually if you know what you are doing. And remember to backup the files that you are modding!!!
If that does not help, try this Net.-Local Number Format under Tweaks in Cydia.

Hope that helps

Knowing that the latest Pwnage Tool 3.1.3 now supports iPhone 3GS
Does it solve the issue where people updated to 3.1 and bricked their 3GS?
Will everything be fine by just restoring to the custom firmware using this Pwnage Tool?

iPhone Generation : 3G
Unlocked? (or Part Number): Officially Unlock
Current Firmware : 3.0.1
iTunes Version : 9
PC/MAC : PC
Jailbreaking software : RedSn0w

Problem Encountered : iphone activation are unavailable at this time

Screenshot:http://www.iphonehacks.com/images/08-Jul/itunesdown.jpg

How it happen: Initially I had my phone 3.0.1 Jailbreak. I wanted to reformat the phone.
So, I shift click the iPhone and load the OS 3.0.1.

After all the procedure I couldn't activate the phone. Have I done something wrong ? shocking.gif shocking.gif

Or the server is really down. I'm worried now.

I don't feel the difference after upgrading the 3.1.
No issue except I can't do tethering...

@Edoras,
I'm on an officially unlocked set and am using Maxis as my provider. Am sending this post via Internet Tethering via USB. It looks like it's working on my end. It also works on BT smile.gif

Yes - it actually supports Maxis bcoz of the official provider.
But I am running on Celcom... Unfortunately, they have remove for non-official telcos.

@Edoras,
Unfortunately I don't have any non Maxis SIM cards at home to test it on. Looks like U need to get someone else to confirm Internet Tethering availability on non Maxis networks.
