Haha please no. Last time I was the replacement TS for W610i thread, also a TO from an idle TS. Then the thread go unmaintained :-(
I support a new, active TS and I am more than happy to contribute and to help TS as practical as I can :-)
Edit: I emailed SIS last week asking about the status of the warranty when flashing the Hero with another ROM. The e-mail is still unanswered. Or is there any fine print pertaining this matter somewhere?

Ok so I called them (damn hard to connect to the tech dept. And the recorded machine voice also sounds unprofessional lol).
Flashing voids the warranty. Basically that's it lah. Then they talked about SPL (?) and all (I don't know what is SPL or whatnot). They said as long as the SPL is intact, the warranty is there.
In other word, as long as HTC cannot detect any mod (software/hardware) made to the Hero, then the warranty is there.
Jiahaha so basically my Hero has no warranty already. Oh my... How to check this SPL thing ha? I burned the warranty on the 2nd day. Meh then no point I paid RM50 extra for extended warranty XD~

That's what I told them :-)
I said if I can flash it to any custom ROM, I most probably can also re-flash it to the original ROM. That's why I said, as long as HTC can't detect any mod made, your warranty is good :-) In fact the guy I talked to agreed with me.
Whether this SPL thing can be restored or not, that I don't know yet.

For those who are using a rooted Hero, can any of you confirm if you are experiencing these 2 weird behavior?
1. During a call, you press the Volume Rocker on the side, but the call volume is still SUPER LOUD. Unlike the iPhone, when you're in a call, pressing the Volume button reduces or increases the call volume (not ringtone)
2. Using the retro clock with weather widget - the weather doesn't update. I have a Moon at 2pm in the afternoon. Bringing up the weather widget, everything seems fine. Weather and temp updates with a Sun instead of a Moon. Going back to the Homescreen again, the Moon is still there. Weather not updated.
Thanks
Added on September 24, 2009, 6:53 pmAnd can someone upload the ORIGINAL ROM that came with the phone? Forgot to do a back-up before rooting my unit. Now that Levi mentioned SIS's tight A** policy ... Would be good if somehow, can roll back if anything happens Thanks again ....
Added on September 24, 2009, 6:56 pmCome to think of it, am kinda pissed with SIS ... We root our Hero because they failed to give us Android Market in the first place

And what about hardware problem then?
If hardware confirmed faulty but warranty void because I flashed my phone then how?

QUOTE(JayC75 @ Sep 24 2009, 03:02 PM) installed custom ROM will void local SIS warranty, is it possible that we re-install back ori ROM when we send in to claim warranty? Em..but...custom ROM don hv chinese support..too bad... Hope HTC will release new official ROM with Market. There is a chinese IME in the market you just have to look for it. Actually i approached one of the mod, and ask if Android can be a forum by itself, and different threads on the each phone as well as thread common to android in general. It's hard to keep up like this when Hero, Magic and G1 can be using all the same roms.

About the SPL thing, I flashed my wm6 with a modded spl aka hardspl but reflash it to the original one just before sending it for warranty, and no, they can't detect that ethier.

For those interested in getting the Original Asian ROM mentioned by Levi, click http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=561703File: (RUU_Hero_HTC_Asia_SEA_WWE_2.73.728.5_release_signed_NoDriver.exe) Size: 105.3 MB Downloaded, but any tips on how to UNROOT the unit? I searched XDA but only found people asking that question and kena shot asking him to SEARCH before asking. But can't find an actual thread with steps to Un-root. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you for this. Safe-keeping it in case of the warranty call. I'm not ever going back to the stock ROM again, enjoying too much of the Android Market to let go of it.

Idk who and why local Hero replaces Market with SAM. All my current apps are not available from SAM. If I remember correctly, SAM don't even have any file manager app.
Maybe SAM got ASTRO but imho ASTRO is ugly. Hate the UI. I currently use ES File Manager. The most nice UI I found in Market for a file manager.
Edit: I wonder if I can buy apps with CIMB Petronas Credit Card.

I generally dont need to sync anything using my Mac. All the details needed to sync resides in the coud, and with the integrations between Address Book--Google Contact and iCal--Google Calendar, they exchange information between themselves and the Hero syncs back the data to itself from the cloud.
The only other usage of the HTC Sync program is application installation, but once you've rooted the Hero and enabled Android Market, you can easily install and file manager app, and run the .apk installation file from there. I'm using Linda File Manager myself.
In the age where Google handles pretty much all my data synchronization need, the HTC Sync program is pretty much redundant. Furthermore, on my Windoze laptop, it memory-hogs the system to the point that the laptop crawls.
