hmmm.... im thinking if i should change the cooler? Using Tuniq Tower Extreme at the moment. On stock, the temp is excellent; 34C idle and load will be less than 60C

But its a totally different story when OC. bumped to 1.26vcore at 3.5ghz, temp shoots up close to 80C. Even disabling Intel Turbo and HT, temp still hovering at mid 70s on load. 1 thing i've noticed is that temp will drop back to 30s in a couple of seconds after i've stopped the stress test.

ive also noticed that vcore will be automaticaaly increased even when i set the memory divider to 6 (auto was 5). could this be becoz the memory controller is embedded in the cpu?

Using Core i5 750 (1156) want to overclock further.
Need a quick opinion.
From the following, which would be your choice:
1)Xigmatek Balder
2)Xigmatek Dark Knight <-----not sure about socket. Some sites say they have a 1156 version now.
3)CM Hyper212+
4)CM Hyper TX3
5)another cooler within this price range

here's MSI Tech reply to my or our voltage "issue"

QUOTE
Sorry for late reply. We have checked with the relevant engineers, power consumption of CPU will be higher while overclocking, so the voltage will not lower even if system is under idle mode. You may see the six CPU Phase Leds all light. It's normal. Thanks!

guess we have to live with it then. doh.gif

the hyper 212+ did come with some tim and its actually a pretty decent one.

kinda like TX2 in texture and performance is not bad.

spend a bit more and get a better cooler than that.

Tuniq Tower 120 Extreme is a good performer for under RM200.

82C????? What kind of stressful software were u running man? Got on your air con anot? You OC to 4Ghz isit....

my highest temp on i5 750 on stock cooler was only 75C on high stress load. (even 3.6ghz)

now I insalled one more casing fan and the temp actually drop by 2 degrees.
LOL. I didn't expect that.

yea, its really bang for buck. idle at low 30C and full load not reaching 60C on stock 860.

no air con, stock i5 2.66ghz, maybe it's the dust stuck on the heatsink, but it's not that thick also the dust.
