Plug in your iPhone v the USB cabla and launch iTunes. You should be getting a unlock message both on iTunes and your iPhone if you have not done so.

If nothing happens, just restore back to default and see if you get the unlock message via iTunes.
It's there if you use the ipcc file to enable it. Go to Settings/General/Network/Cellular Data Network

It's missing there too. After 'network' there's no 'cellular data network'. So do I have to enable carrier support in iTunes according to the link you gave earlier? I don't really understand the ipcc thingy, I'm such a noob...so if I do as the tutorial instruct, I can update the ipcc file? So I just open the ipcc file? Ahhh I feel so stupid rclxub.gif laugh.gif

Yes..u need to enable it via iTunes.

Follow the tutorial as the tutorial is there to help you understand how to install the ipcc file and read thru the thread too.

triangulating your location via the GPS is FREE OF CHARGE

loading the map, is not technically free of charge because it consumes data bundle

Nokia2003,

Any idea how much and how heavy is the data,
According to your experience?

Hopefully a moderate use on google maps won't exceed our data usage.

Added on July 25, 2009, 12:11 amWill I get push notifications on my 3G S if I restore it from a backup of an iPhone which has been jailbroken and unlocked?

As iPhones that were unlocked do not get push notifications.

no idea on the GPS part to be honest. i only get to utilise the GPS whenever i'm lost and furthermore i don't drive over here.

if i were you, i will not restore from the backup (which was previously jailbroken). hard to explain, but just a personal preference of mine.

You must be charging off the wall plug. It's only 2 pins, not properly grounded. Try charging via the USB using the computer and you won't be getting those static shocks.

Cheers

@NickyKhoo,
Yes there's some static passed through.

@nkymark,
Act, static does still pass through when using USB; at least from my experience with using an MBP to charge.

need to ask out experts here..

i've just got a new iphone 3gs recently, from australia.
it's unlocked version, and it's jailbroken.

now if i use itunes to restore my phone, will i get error saying i do not have original sim? since i'm using it in malaysia now.
it's safe to restore a phone from jailbreak if it's an unlocked version?

and i think i've gotten a defect battery, can i claim it from here or otherwise? since m'sia is having iphone 3gs launched soon. is the warranty valid for a battery replacement here in msia? (my phone couldn't last 12hours on standby)

another question,
i got a few top free apps/games into my phone, for example tap tap revenge2, FS5 hockey, idiot test, bubble wrap.
i played a few times and then today i sync my phone to my itunes just now, i manage to copy some songs to my phone but i also get an error during sync that some of these games application cannot sync as they're not meant to be played in my pc and such... i click ok and closed it.
and then now i can't play these games in my iphone. when i select these games, immediately it jumps out to the main iphone screen. what is the cause to this?

ok....first of all u got to understand the word officially unlock... mean u can put in whatever telco sim card u like. and when u restore thru itune it won't give u d original sim error.... u can restore your iphone eventhough u jb...only drawback is you got rejailbreak and reinstall all d 3rd party apps.

warranty issue.... u got to claim from apple australia......u can try asking maxis about d warranty...n i will assure u that they will not entertain you (boh layan)

erm. i could only recommend that you perform a "battery memory reset" (cannot remember the exact term).

drain your 3G S battery completely (make sure you see the charge icon) and charge to the brim.

after that turn it off for a few hours.

there might be a few renditions/variants available, but i typically stick to this one.

***********************

if this fails, your battery is indeed faulty and i'd recommend that you take a few screen shots of the discovery process to substantiate your claim (for warranty purposes)

your iPhone apps and games are stored in a folder. you can re-sync them back. usually, the folder is located @ My Music -> iTunes -> Mobile Applications. or worst, you can re-download them.
