@hublee91: nothing wrong with campbells but they have been documented to be more aggressive than winter whites. but what i am most concern is that you do not mix a winter white and campbell in the same cage and expect them to be friends. usually from what i read, its best to put male in female cage.. not very sure about this..

@omara: honestly speaking, i hope you stop breeding your syrians because you do not have a proper home for them. your current tanks for each of them are smaller than what is proposed for a dwarf hamsters. do you think its fair? its like having children knowing you have not enough money to support them.. so you force 10 kids into one mini room.

Hamster Update:

9 babies born on 4th Aug r all healthy until today, 3rd labour from the same female hamster (1st labour 0/5 survived, 2nd labour 2/6 survived)

Today my other female hamster beranak, got 6 babies but she ate 1 of 'em (mayb too weak bcoz her 1st time), curently taking good care of the remaining.

Cash running low but need to get more tanks for them later, hahahaha...

Total babies now (sorted by D.O.B):
25th July - 1 baby (5 died, 1st pregnancy)
4th Aug - 9 babies (all alive, 3rd pregnancy)
7th Aug - 5 babies (1 eaten, 1st pregnancy)

Total adult including the mommies: 6 hamsters

of course angry because even myself housing ONE syrian in 1.5 ft tank also i feel guilty for hamlet

knowing your wallet is tight then dont have so many, samo go and breed? if all the pregnancy was successful then how? you have 20 syrians? know your capabilities before wanting to have so many pets..

you made a mistake.. fine
but now that you know they need individual tank of at least 2ft in size why are you still breeding?

unless you are capable of giving them a 2ft tank each with all the proper toys and accessories please stop torturing them

please be responsible and dont later later later
this is not the attitude of a true pet lover
this is an attitude of a selfish person

actually dream is correct....since the 1st batch babies i wanted to say something already but i didnt...later people misunderstand me or something....

also need to consider things that might happen to the hamster...what if health problem, sick or fighting occurs etc....need to take to vet...so many hamster later how u want to pay since u cant even provide proper home for each of them. u cant just put minyak gamat all over them when fighting occur & dont take to vet expecting them to recover their self....thats just....sigh....

dont be so harsh to omara...from what he tells us, we know he is serious in and responssible in taking care of his hammies...he has done what he can for now...from time to time we know he will do better for his hammies...we are here to learn...this is also the process of learning...it takes time...give him time...its not like he is trying to kill them by keeping his hammies in "not so big" aquarium...he tries to keep them live happier than before(more than 1 hamster in a cage)...hes doing the best for them...

lets chill...
let me show something...
these are Hammy babies...this is the first time she give birth...1st and 2nd babies...i just saw she eats 1 baby sad.gif and i saw another piece of meat outside her house...so i assume she already ate 2 of her babies...total of 4 babies, 2 alive and healthy another 2 have been eaten...the babies are born about 4.20 pm 7/8/2011...

im hoping that she will not eat another baby..she seems fine...resting outside her house...

im not tick off by the first mistake you made
nor am i ticked off with how much effort you made to try to rehome them again
what i am ticked off with is that you breed them knowing you cant house them properly

you've made the mistake and before you can correctly correct your mistake you repeat it again..
i am hoping that you learn from your mistake and do not repeat them

he is not trying to kill them with a not so big home but instead this will lead to aggression in his hamsters. as their territory is not big, they will learn to be aggressive and bite a lot. it puts the hamster under a lot of stress. it doesnt kill them immediately.. it just makes them suffer thru it. while your hamster may not have physical defects (well if extreme then maybe their fur will all drop off) but they will suffer psychologically

bout the later part.. what i am saying is it is not responsible for you to think like breed now. even if i have no money now.. later things might turn out better. i might have more money and house them properly. its not good for you to push it to a later phase. problems dont solve by themselves. you have to put in the effort to think about how to solve them

since your budget is low what you can start by doing at the very least is to stop breeding it because you are already having problems housing your current hamsters.

@noruddin: congrats
