Is it normal for the PS3 fan to be extremely loud ( I can even hear it from upstairs T_T;) ? Even playing FF7 makes the fan kick up to max.

Try turning it off and vacuuming the vents (low power). If got dust stuck, the heat might be trapped inside

Vacuuming won't do anything much if at all.
The dust is clogged up like a lump on the fan itself, vacuuming won't get it out.

The only sure fire way is to open your PS3 up and clean it thoroughly. If not, compressed air will a little, but not really too much.

Thanks vorchiel. Seems like it still work but there doesn't seem to be a confirmed answer. Guess I'll have to test it out. Darn US PSN have so much DLC (especially in English)...really hate PSN for their regional content restriction.

tat was by Sony style-2 months back, they had stop bundling it already.
Go check them again, u might get surprise with price cut - and a slim unit.

Probably bundle with a better game too.
If really keen of LBP, then get a pre-owned unit from garage sales here.

I already got an xbox360. The next gadget I want to buy is a media player that can play a lot of formats (xbox is rather limited when it comes to video files). I wanted to get something like a popcorn hour or a Dvico. But when I check the price is almost the same like a PS3. I was wondering if PS3 can play movies and display subtitles at the same time without much effort. Most importantly, PS3 is also a BD player and I would like to try MGS4.

Get a HTPC itself.... it may be slightly more expensive, but its well worth the money if you seriously want to just play anything without any hassle.

even with 1200W vacuum it wont suck out the dust inside, why? i've tested it to my desktop and laptop, none of them work.

vacuum will just suck the dust that is trap at the vents there, but not those fine dust that reside at there,

get a laptop or PC that can support 1080p playback then install PS3 media server on the PC then stream from laptop to PS3, but dont complain about quality if your are using wireless connection.

u hv open ur ps3 before?what are type of screw needed?the pic(method to dissamble) i found so far not same with my ps3

I open mine every fortnight.
Depending on your PS3, there are revisions that has different security screws.

Mine is a CECHG model, so a torx screwdriver is needed to remove the front plate cover that hides the other screws underneath.

hi .. im a celcom D98 user , currently having some problem with my connections .. im using ICS (windows vista *ehem*) to share the internet between a laptop and a ps3 , the problem is i cant sign in to psn networks bcoz of dns error ( 0710102 and 8002AF02 ) and my antivirus in laptop cant update also bcoz of `cant connect to server` .. but surfing website is ok ...

PS3 does support mkv files. All you need is a laptop with the software ps3mediaserver. There's a thread here in LYN about this software. Look it up. I use my PS3 for mkv files nowadays and took my WDTV back to my hometown for my dad to watch.

Guys, wanna ask FW 3.0 is official or optional?
