I'm not too sure.
Sometimes, it may be the HDMI silicon in the PS3 being the fault.

A full system reset may fix the problem, but don't bet on it.

also it could the the lcd tv prob too hmm.gif

This is what I did for a couple of people last time.
When they had flickering, I saw that they have 1080i and 1080p checked and enabled.
All I did was disable 1080i and 720p all-together and the flickering stopped.

For games locked in 720p, they simply switch back to 720p and play instead.
A hindrance maybe, but it solves the problem.

I don't know if it'll help you, but maybe worth a check. icon_rolleyes.gif

Theres a possibility, but it isn't high.
Since the scaler is connected to both resolutions, if the TV has problems 720p won't display properly too.

Guys i got a question to ask, i'm planning to buy a PS3 before FFXIII releast, but recently i heard that PS3 250 GB is coming to Malaysia, some of the PS3 owner said that no need to wait the 250GB model because you can change the HDD by yourself without void the Sony official warrenty. Is that truth, and what is the max GB PS3 supported?

i just bought a new Samsung LA-32B550 which support Full HD.

And based on my previous post, i also bought a cap ayam HDMI cable worth Rm39 from Carrefour. Yesterday i try to test to connect it to my new TV, dunno why the pics is suddenly blackout, and suddenly show the pic again, and the it blackout again..wired, that looks like something wrong..

So wondering is it becoz of the cheap brand HDMI cable?

for your information, i'm using my new PS3 Slim and when first time connect via HDMI cable to the TV, i enable and tick all display option available (576i, 720p, 1080i & 1080P), at first the pic is stunning, then after awhile it show the above funny pics..

Any sifus here minds to teach a noob like me what happen? coz i thought cheap HDMI cable is at no diff with branded HDMI cable, or perhaps i do something wrong? notworthy.gif

No, this is not a recommended solution. If you run a game which only supports 720p, and you only tick 1080p, your PS3 will fall back to SD resolution (480p/576p). which will make the game look awefully pixelated on the LCD.

Sean, I am suspecting two issues: It could be because of the HDMI cable itself being faulty, and another reason could be due to the HDCP handshake problem. Some people in other forums may suggest to see if it is possible to run a firmware upgrade on the TV itself to fix the problem.

You may want to check out this site?

Sean,

You may want to reset your PS3 slim video setting (5 second - power button until your hear the beep sound) the setting will revert back to SD. Try:-

1) When prompt for video setting, choose HDMI -> custom -> just tick 576...720..1080i...-> then save setting.
2) With TV & PS3 active, try unplug & reconnect back the hdmi cable

Thanks bro. I've done what you have suggested. The prob is, whenever i start off my ps3, 1st few secs it is ok, then suddenly it will blackout, and resumed, then blackout again, so can't really have time to do and save the setting..

looks like i gonna invest a better quality HDMI cable and see still got the same prob or not..

Added on November 10, 2009, 4:19 pmhey i just found out from the manual it stated as below:-

QUOTE
The TV may not output sound and pictures may be displayed with abnormal colour when DVD / Blu-ray player / Cable
Boxes / Satellite receivers supporting HDMI versions older than 1.3 are connected
. When connecting an older HDMI
cable and there is no sound, connect the HDMI cable to the HDMI IN 3(DVI) jack and the audio cables to the DVI AUDIO
IN jacks on the back of the TV. If this happens, contact the company that provided the DVD / Blu-ray player / Cable Box /
Satellite receiver to confirm the HDMI version, then request a firmware update. HDMI cables that are not 1.3 may cause
annoying flicker or no screen display.

So might be due to the cheap brand HDMI that didn't come with ver. 1.3?

Any thought?

any of you experience no output from the HDMI port?

i've tried every tutorial on resetting the video setting and its still not working..

it pops out video on normal tv using the red/white/yellow cable..

and also i've tested the hdmi cable, its working fine..

my monitor is dell 2409 and its working fine also..

does that mean the HDMI port is gone?

please help.

thanks.

Updating using USB drive? Yeah, at least that's what the documentation is saying. laugh.gif

Yup. HDTVs today are not just a display device but they have a small computer within the set itself which actually does a lot of things (graphics processing such as scaling between different resolutions, predictive image processing, sound processing, and even encryption/decryption for the HDCP handshake process). In other words, they are one complicated device.

Even a normal set-top Blu-Ray player appliance has an Ethernet port in it that allows firmware update via the Internet.

Speaking about Blu-Ray players, I came across an Aquos billboard today and they claimed they have a built-in Blu-ray player in it.

Want to ask if there is external cooling fan kit for PS3 Slim like the one for PS2 slim. I'm planning to get PS3 soon. Been reading about PS3 slim overheating and yellow light of death (one reviewer on Amazon claim that his unit exploded. I don't believe, but still a bit scared) and want to know if there are preventive measures like fans for the console. If got, where to buy.
