the drop today wiped out gains from 3-4 days ago on some of my stocks. that was pretty fast.

i'm not taking the CI as a reliable barometer anymore. rather look at top 20 most active stocks.

ok, i've changed my outlook, market sentiment's gone really south. there's a lot of volume dumping today. my best guess is retail investors and contra traders all dumping. conspiracy theories suggest EPF's dumping to revise their positions.

So far CI's damage seems minor, i guess mainly because 2nd/3rd liners didnt go up a lot recently.

gonna buy in Sealink at 70 sens. i believe that'll be the crucial support. after all this stock hasn't risen much during this 2 week rally.

my estimate was the KLCI was going to be volatile throughout May till Dec 09, i didnt expect July 09 for the KLCI to rally... caught me totally by suprise.

If there is to be a significant correction to the KLCI than i will be in a position of advantage... due to the fact my counters hardly move or stay where they are, of course low ABP also helps.

... lets see whether may gamble pays off..

Defensive line up
Axreit
TM
Bjtoto..

Portfolio, Paper Gain 3.0%, this morning was 4.0%

lets see what tricks KLCI gonna pull out this time.

Actually holding up good counters for rainy days also important as well as allocating some for growth. My growth stocks shaking now, but still way above my buying price.

I cannot guarantee how long they can stay above that price

I got a question...

If a counter usually declare dividend on Apr and Aug every year base on the history but this year they declared dividend on Apr and right issue on Jun, so is there high chances that they wont declare dividend on Aug?

yes.

----

Example
If EX Date was 29/7/09 and you sell before the Ex date say 28/7/2009 - not entitled

If Ex Date was 29/7/09 and u buy, u will be entitled to dividend

If Ex Date was 29/7/09 and u buy, and than Sell... i think answer is "Maybe" ---> need to do some reading on this.

5843 KPS Final Dividend 4% Ex date 29/07/2009

If the ex-date is 29/07/2009 (which is today), and you sold your KPS today (which you bought before 29/7/2009), you would be entitled for the dividend.

If you're interested to know more, you can read the guide on dividend : http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1039913

The guide is still not completed yet but do explain regarding the ex-date wink.gif

If Ex Date was 29/7/09 and u buy, u will be entitled to dividend

If Ex Date was 29/7/09 and u buy, and than Sell... i think answer is "Maybe" ---> need to do some reading on this.

In which case, if i sell the even lots, so probably just leave it. Is there any minimum that we need to maintain in the account ?

Wrong already.

If ex-date is 29, buy at 29, you won't get the dividend.

Want to get the dividend, must buy at 28 and hold overnight and sell at 29, then you will get the dividend. They will look for shareholders on 28 5.00pm (after market closed).

Yup.

Shareholders list is about entitlement date, (my apology) just ordinary retailers can just stick the ex-date for reference, as delivery of shares and transferring for T+2/3 is automatic nowadays.

No no no, sorry for confusing u. u juz need to hold till 29.
coz T+3, for those buy on 28, their share will only in the CDS account on 31, so shareholder list will be checked only on 31st after 4pm or 5pm.

You can sell on 29 to entitle the dividend if the ex-date is 29, that's fir sure.

The entitlement date is about transferring of share into the CDS account, which if not understand, just stick with the ex-date will do, as under CDS, you don't need to worry about the entitlement date.

Previously under cert time, entitlement date is the date we must register the share into our name to entitle the dividend. With now computerised scriptless and auto transfer, don't need to bother much.

Odd lot brokerage is RM 12 plus clearing fee plus stamp duty.

Odd lot means anything less than 100 shares. If you sold 450 units ,it is actually 4 board lots of 100 units each and 50 units odd lots amalgamated into one contract,in which case, the minimum of RM40 applicable to board lot is charged.

Had you sold only the 50 units, then the commission rate is RM12.

The US dollar index is testing resistance aka previous support. As you can see, the SPX is trying to test the inverse h&s neckline with RSI at 50 which shows tremendous support.

Like i said, this is a bull market, rather than a bear market rally. The main reason is,
Investors want the market to drop so they can buy before its too late. Those investors are "underinvested". So believe in your analysis, oil dropping at 4 dollars are a reaction of euro dropping like a rock along with a bearish inventory.

Good thing is, China will reduce fuel prices.

DB, i am not too sure if you received my newslettter yesterday but i did say its better to stay on the sidelines and wait for dips to long.

If you want to contra, you should wait for the price to fall close to near 10 sma, then purchase and then sell at 3 sma. (Applicable on high volume stocks only)

August 1st is Chinese PMI, so be very wary tomorrow and friday.

Added on July 30, 2009, 12:32 amWill it be useful if i hold a technical analysis class for stocks and futures held at OSK HQ?

I read the newsletters religiously every day and saw your comment about buying on dips. My problem is: what is a dip?
One man's dip is another man's trench - if you see what I mean. Does buying TANJONG at 14.60 today when it just hit 15.30 constitute a 'dip' - for example? hmm.gif

I definitely think a technical analysis class for stocks and futures held at OSK HQ would be widely welcomed and well attended by many - especially on here. I would sign up like a shot. icon_rolleyes.gif

DB,

IT's all about buying when there's a panic selling, such as today when shanghai crashed. That was a good opportunity to daytrade some high volume stocks. For Tanjong, it's all about your timeframe, how long do you want to hold and do you feel comfortable buying at that PRICE?

Here are some tips that might help to identify a dip.

Contra play requires a very capable technical ability to identify short term oversold base on the timeframe you are using. Since contra is T+4 for some, it is highly advisable to only purchase stocks when 4 hr chart is oversold, with possible candlestick (inverted hammer, hammer, doji, piercing engulfing) Please use 2 technical indicators the most with moving averages as support and resistance.

IF you are a pure chartist, support and resistance or (SR) and trendline are useful to identify possible entry and EXIT points.

IF i do hold a class, i will explain this in further details.

Added on July 30, 2009, 12:52 amDB, if you don't do contra, please focus on the weekly and daily chart patterns, or technical indicators.

Yeah.. US has too much inventory. Oil will go back $50.
Other commodity like steel, copper, etc.. all over-bought and tanking big time.

Sell Sell Sell!! It is going to be cheap again. rclxms.gif

Also, the US treasury auction was pretty weak..China doesn't want to buy.

hmm.gif It might be time to be a bear again. tongue.gif

Seems like a series of things going wrong. First the CSI selloff then oil inventories pushing crude down...commodities may retreat now. Also i read a story of a Nymex official commenting on how they're looking into introducing regulations such as making it mandatory to take contract deliveries on crude in an effort to curb speculation/manipulation...this is very interesting.....

Added on July 30, 2009, 6:14 amMany believe that China is set up now for a bubble but the question is when will it explode? Next year? Until then I think bulls want to rally but not without pullbacks..

Added on July 30, 2009, 6:14 amMany believe that China is set up now for a bubble but the question is when will it explode? Next year? Until then I think bulls want to rally but not without pullbacks..
*
China already exploding now.. not next year. Read the news!
More pullback on today.

Commodity accumulation by China too much.. no where to go, products made stored in warehouse.
Where are the buyers? We're doom again!

Well, there are news for the pullback is just for this particular 2 days.. how far it goes will be the new beginning for the month August09 . Its a start the big players trying to make for the upcoming new policies to run. Its a ritual setting for the month of August supported by majority though.

Well, still another speculation news, and what is happening overseas on the pullback yesterday seems subsiding and easing off from the cliff drop. Will check out today's response and performance of all small cap counters. Rally for the 1st of August going to be interesting after all .

Wish all with Best of Lucks @@

DB, i am not too sure if you received my newslettter yesterday but i did say its better to stay on the sidelines and wait for dips to long.

If you want to contra, you should wait for the price to fall close to near 10 sma, then purchase and then sell at 3 sma. (Applicable on high volume stocks only)

August 1st is Chinese PMI, so be very wary tomorrow and friday.

Checking in.

In my humble opinion, people in Asia have chasen up the goreng stocks too high.

Perhaps time for them to take a re look at some fundamentally good stocks. Or else buying some of the warrants of blue chips ( as suggested by Kenanga ) to hedge for next year ( better economy ).

I still believe DOW would cross 10,000 this year. The bull is real.

Up or down is just a daily affair, longer term still uptrend.

Just my personal opinion.

Yes, i bought some Bursa CL and XQ.

Stocks that i can sleep well IF there is a correction coming.

CI up or down does not mean every stock is good or bad.

I have sent out newsletter this morning issuing a call to buy, as i can see 1200 coming due to dow's and spx strength. Please check with me if you don't have it.

As for KNM, yes, i will buy on dips and keep it but for contra play i will watch oil prices. My TP still remains at 1.00 for my remaining shares.

I do not expect a very big movement in Dow from now on.

US Government just ban naked short selling ( ending this month ).

One of the way to cook up their market.

No lah.. regulated short selling means need to borrow to sell short.. must have the uptick rule.

Naked short selling means NO NEED to borrow, simply press button and SELL SELL SELL,
causing the price to plummet like crazy.

Aka. Bear Raid strategy..

I was saying " banning the naked short selling " is just like the one we have in Bursa, in layman term.

We call sharks, and you mean them to be Market Makers , a more professional way.

No lah.. regulated short selling means need to borrow to sell short.. must have the uptick rule.

Naked short selling means NO NEED to borrow, simply press button and SELL SELL SELL,
causing the price to plummet like crazy.

Aka. Bear Raid strategy..

That is the problem , or the advantage is of smaller size.

If one has been in China, you can see there are lot of wastage and non-efficient of utilisation even on foods and restaurant front, don't know how much foods is wasted daily, just simply throw away.

Go to eat ordinary lunch or dinner for a table of 10, surely come out at least 8-10 dishes, where can people finish it all the time. There got some culture, if the clients finish the dishes means the host is kedekut (seem as no face) aka the clients having not enough, so must have plenty of foods being left, only show generousity.

Just my experience, no offence. smile.gif

Now everyone is watching whether China is bubble in making or just a correction.

Loan rate increase previously months has been shooting to the roof which indicated too hot for financial market to handle which this issue has been raised a few week ago or so.

Ya, my brother in law just back from China says the same thing.

Many years back , these people lining up waiting for some gifts to be handed out.

Now they bring him to the Restaurants few times a week for dinners.

Their SME still doing OK with local consumptions, need to import labour from Far North.

Believe it or not.. only 25% of the US Stimulus money that was allocated
is spent. US is moving very slowly.

China spent already 75% of its 585 billion. Therefore, looks like China
economy is rebounding so fast, so hot.. and yet.. very bubbly and dangerous.

The end of China economy if they behave like Japan, waiting to be murdered by Fear.

Well can't bite both ends of the pie at the same time, can you?

there so many issues yet to be ironed out..

but pumping the system full of money will only get the market excited for a while, what if the stimulus money runs out, go bak to the ppl and rob them of more monies?

i think its false expectations of a "recovery", when in fact it all came from printed monies.

i think we all know fairly well what happened duing the great depression... "in the sense everyone was making money, expectation was high, and the market seems like it would never crash" - hence the term false expectations.

When Banks are tightening credit, the destruction of the only other source of raising capital i.e. StockMarket would ultimately be armegeddon.

The situation now is more like the devil and the deep blue sea.

personally i think China is doing it wrong.

its a painful recovery, ppl may have to write in a couple of million times before they get a job... but one thing is for sure, a crash can happen overnight but a cure will take years.

Newly IPO especially smaller company is very difficult to evaluate. Little information can be obtained, also when they want to do IPO time, generally, they will try out the best to 'make up' as good as its look.

At this stage FKLi always in tandem with the FBM KLCI, so still got hope. But when you bought your long position at 1160? Cause the highest it did went to 1170.5.

Your phone bill very expensive is it? brows.gif

Btw, tomorrow final day for FKLI July. Just take a note ok. Actually many are queuing & trading for August contract.

Goreng syndicate tends to like new stock as they are still clean, so very easy to goreng especially on the first day as there are no people trap at higher price before, so little selling pressure can be expected and easy push the price up.

Unlike some old name goreng stock, once reach certain price (previously most people bought one), you can see massive selling force coming out.

To be honest, that's only a swing of +-4% of the index value.

Dow jones used to have that kinda swing 1 year ago. HSI can easily move double that magnitute if you are really lucky/unlucky.

I'm actually checking its historical div and chart. The price seems to be quite stable at 2.00++ for past 3 yrs. When it gives special div, price will spike up accordingly then back to normal. Special div given in Y2003, 2006, and 2008...

unlikely. that would be limit up jor.

me guess opening price would have jumped 20-30 sens. so probably around 2.90-3.00

still have some room to swing before limit up.

Wow! What company is CCB? How come nobody open a thread for CCB when it is giving such good dividends?

With such good track record, I wouldn't mind buying it for long-term after the ex-date when the price drops.....

Pana, buka CCB thread and post all useful info? nod.gif

dun think they'll get UMA. plus looking at the volume, i think it'll be hard to buy them as existing shareholders probably would prefer to get the 45% dividen. that's what i do if i'm an existing shareholders wink.gif wink.gif

Date: Thu, 30 Jul 2009 09:00:32 +0800

Good morning,

For two days consecutive, SPX and DOW have tried to break the neckline support of the inverse h&s but failed to break through convincingly thus reinforcing the belief that the DOW and the SPX have further room to go.

PLEASE BE AWARE THAT THE LONGER KLCI REMAINS ABOVE 1150 LEVEL, THE CHANCES OF KLCI HITTING 1200 IS VERY VERY HIGH.

Recommendation:

SHORT at your RISK as KLCI has FAILED to break down 1150 while DOW / SPX failed to break down as well.

Buy and hold, maintain tight stop.

I think those numbers were kinda expected - so shouldn't do too much damage IMHO. Yesterday everyone worried KNM would tank but it didn't (well, not really!). laugh.gif

KNM did not tank today, even though crude oil is around USD63+ at that time. I think it is the news that chyaw posted which makes KNM close green. sweat.gif

Definitely Irrational Exuberance.

We are so top heavy, I'm expecting a nice pullback.. but just too many
dip buyers at the door.

The earnings are guided so low, most companies can beat 'em easily.

All "less bad" become "Recession is Over!"
This is pure madness!! I tell ya!

I agree with you. Waiting for a pullback too.

However, the market seems to ignore this and keeps on rallying up. Investors entering the market recently will either reap huge rewards if the market do continue its upward trend or get caught again if it goes the other way. I'd rather think it is the latter.... hmm.gif

Hmmmm - strange, maybe a new supply from Columbia in town? laugh.gif

There are definitely a lot of nasty surprises still hidden under the carpet and the banks (especially in Europe) have not 'fessed up yet....not even close. hmm.gif

This 'queasing' by western governments is having a strange effect.

"The law of unintended consequences" springs to mind....or do governments WANT to markets to boom?

P.S. to Jason - Unemployment is NOT stabilizing - it is going to get a whole lot worse in the US, UK and Europe before it gets better IMO.

You know what, now even hedge fund managers are 'kiasu' right now. Everyone scare not having enough equities so that their report card won't be lag behind the market.

Previously, people scare off depression, now they scare off not investing enough!

If market is going up more, and you as a fund manager doesn't buy enought to on par with broader market performance or indices, you are screwed big time, could hurt your performance rating big time.

That's why market is up, up and up, never pull back at all. Everyone is buying, whether want to buy or need to buy.

Just like locally, once people put money in ASM, PNB only mandate is to buy stock in the market eventually KLCI continue to go up, disregard whether the stock price is a bit on the high side or has risen too fast or too much. They need to buy. They can't put your money in bank as cash. This is what happening right now.

As long as there is no seller that urgent to sell or need the cash one, some buying activities will suppport the market already.

Having said that, we need real economy recovery, and earning recovery over the long term so that this rally has a real leg.

LOL apa big shot, me kasi pagi, makan pagi, kais petang, makan petang fella. Sometimes no money eat yesterday's leftovers, haha.
Decided not to jump to CCB.

For one, I have just look at the charts, no research done. And i've seen that the counter is inactive most time of the year, so might have liquidity issue there.
And by the look of things, I believe people will Q like crazy tomorrow, so the price will soar, since the shareholders would rather keep the stocks for dividend than to realise their capital.

Totally agree  rclxms.gif
Posted a comment on the sub-forum; if you're inside you'll do fine....but for retail (or any kind of) investors, this counter does not tick any of the right boxes - not by a long way, IMHO hmm.gif

OT : Agree what ? That I'm not a big shot, that I'm a pauper ? Isy ini menimbulkan marah ! LOL

Agree with you too. This is the type of counter that got electric jolt everytime it announces dividend, and after that, goes back into deep slumber.

Hopefully it rallies.
If not, then Bursa is the only stock exchange that forgot to take via g ra.
But then, maybe it' already taken to much, OD, suddenly got heart attack, and terkulai di tepi jalan, haha.

Our problem here is very simple:

1. Transparency
2. Liquidity
3. Confidence

All three are inter-related; if the powers that be do not or can not get ALL THREE right then we won't move forward.
IMHO - Just my opinion only.

This statement does not constitute an offer to sell or buy securities.....your country is at risk if you do not keep up re-payments secured on it.....blah.....blah......blah......etc......etc......etc.......

This is totally unexpected. The bulls not suppose to get this far but it did.
Yes, I was shorting energy.. this time, the market caught me. vmad.gif

Last night morning, the crude oil was pretty bad. I was expecting it pull back to 60.
US inventory was all time high: 5.1 milllion barrels of crude overstock
Exxon/Esso (XOM) one of the dow component missed its earnings big time.
66% drop from last year, reported 0.83/share instead of expected 1.01/share.
Steel and copper inventory was overflowing into Thames @ LME, China not buying, etc.

Even the US jobless claim came out bad but the media spins as yet again as good.
Less than 1 hour later. The Dow rallies 3 digits up. shocking.gif What's the news?
Oil lost -3 yesterday, today, it gained back +5 with no fundamentals support.

Only at close, the Dow give back some as teaser. cry.gif

Tomorrow, US 2nd Qtr GDP will be released.. as usual, even it is a bad number, because the bulls
are so pumped up with v-i-a-g-r-a, the bears will get sodomized no matter.

Mr. Market. I gotta give it to you. notworthy.gif

Let me give u an insight of the O&G business...most of the operator had learnt their mistake 4-6 yrs ago where they cut back most of the exploration/development drilling campaign due to oil price...i believe somewhere around 30-60 dollar / bbl...there's always a clause in the rigs contract whereby the rig rate would follow the oil price trend...if it goes up by certain amount, their day rate goes up by certain amount....at the peak of the bubble last year, there were short of rigs all over the world...

Now that the oil price has come back down, and the rig rate become cheaper, the operators are doubling their exploration campaign. It takes 2-3 yrs from discovery to 1st oil..it will be interesting to see how this would impact O&G operator in another 3-4 yrs..i bet they will make tons of money....the only obstacle right now is to get the demand back..no demand = cheap oil price, simple as that. Watch out for those company that has close tie to Petronas..Scomi, KNM, Petronas has a tendency to bring this company where ever they go, 30 over country to list..I believe they will benefit alot from that move so watch out for them...FYI, On average, cost to produce 1 bbl of crude should lie somewhere around ~20-30 dollar for offshore operation...Just my 2 cents

I wanna see CCB firework today
