ok, i've changed my outlook, market sentiment's gone really south. there's a lot of volume dumping today. my best guess is retail investors and contra traders all dumping. conspiracy theories suggest EPF's dumping to revise their positions.

The US dollar index is testing resistance aka previous support. As you can see, the SPX is trying to test the inverse h&s neckline with RSI at 50 which shows tremendous support.

Like i said, this is a bull market, rather than a bear market rally. The main reason is,
Investors want the market to drop so they can buy before its too late. Those investors are "underinvested". So believe in your analysis, oil dropping at 4 dollars are a reaction of euro dropping like a rock along with a bearish inventory.

Good thing is, China will reduce fuel prices.

Does this mean we should bargain hunt over the next days, Adam?
Or side-line?

DB, i am not too sure if you received my newslettter yesterday but i did say its better to stay on the sidelines and wait for dips to long.

If you want to contra, you should wait for the price to fall close to near 10 sma, then purchase and then sell at 3 sma. (Applicable on high volume stocks only)

August 1st is Chinese PMI, so be very wary tomorrow and friday.

Added on July 30, 2009, 12:32 amWill it be useful if i hold a technical analysis class for stocks and futures held at OSK HQ?
*
I read the newsletters religiously every day and saw your comment about buying on dips. My problem is: what is a dip?
One man's dip is another man's trench - if you see what I mean. Does buying TANJONG at 14.60 today when it just hit 15.30 constitute a 'dip' - for example? hmm.gif

I definitely think a technical analysis class for stocks and futures held at OSK HQ would be widely welcomed and well attended by many - especially on here. I would sign up like a shot. icon_rolleyes.gif

DB
Oh: P.S. I don't do contra.

DB,

IT's all about buying when there's a panic selling, such as today when shanghai crashed. That was a good opportunity to daytrade some high volume stocks. For Tanjong, it's all about your timeframe, how long do you want to hold and do you feel comfortable buying at that PRICE?

Here are some tips that might help to identify a dip.

Contra play requires a very capable technical ability to identify short term oversold base on the timeframe you are using. Since contra is T+4 for some, it is highly advisable to only purchase stocks when 4 hr chart is oversold, with possible candlestick (inverted hammer, hammer, doji, piercing engulfing) Please use 2 technical indicators the most with moving averages as support and resistance.

IF you are a pure chartist, support and resistance  or (SR) and trendline are useful to identify possible entry and EXIT points.

IF i do hold a class, i will explain this in further details.

Added on July 30, 2009, 12:52 amDB, if you don't do contra, please focus on the weekly and daily chart patterns, or technical indicators.
*
It will be very worthwhile to attend if you do hold a class....very interesting tips and invaluable for someone like me.
Many thanks.

Shell and ExxonMobil posts profit drops of 66% and 67% respectively in 2Q.

I think those numbers were kinda expected - so shouldn't do too much damage IMHO. Yesterday everyone worried KNM would tank but it didn't (well, not really!). laugh.gif

Oil going back to $65, following stocks with weak fundalmentals.

Exxon (Esso) posted loss. missed earnings, lacking revenue.. but market still rallies.

Definitely Irrational Exuberance.

We are so top heavy, I'm expecting a nice pullback.. but just too many
dip buyers at the door.

The earnings are guided so low, most companies can beat 'em easily.

All "less bad" become "Recession is Over!"
This is pure madness!! I tell ya!

Everyone is taking ecstasy pill. By next quarter, reality may come in and say..
hey.. where's the earnings, where's the growth, where's the jobs?
*
Hmmmm - strange, maybe a new supply from Columbia in town? laugh.gif

There are definitely a lot of nasty surprises still hidden under the carpet and the banks (especially in Europe) have not 'fessed up yet....not even close. hmm.gif

This 'queasing' by western governments is having a strange effect.

"The law of unintended consequences" springs to mind....or do governments WANT to markets to boom?

P.S. to Jason - Unemployment is NOT stabilizing - it is going to get a whole lot worse in the US, UK and Europe before it gets better IMO.

Well, I only worry we will be suffering as there are rumours that US Govt is giving incentives for MNC to redeploy back to US. So if that is the case, I wonder how the unemployment in Msia would look like
*
The thing about unemployment in Malaysia is that there are absolutely NO RELIABLE NUMBERS...
That is one of the big reasons FFs won't invest here. hmm.gif
What data/statistics from the GUBMINT are there that anyone in their right mind would rely on? icon_rolleyes.gif

LOL apa big shot, me kasi pagi, makan pagi, kais petang, makan petang fella. Sometimes no money eat yesterday's leftovers, haha.
Decided not to jump to CCB.

For one, I have just look at the charts, no research done. And i've seen that the counter is inactive most time of the year, so might have liquidity issue there.
And by the look of things, I believe people will Q like crazy tomorrow, so the price will soar, since the shareholders would rather keep the stocks for dividend than to realise their capital.
*
Totally agree rclxms.gif
Posted a comment on the sub-forum; if you're inside you'll do fine....but for retail (or any kind of) investors, this counter does not tick any of the right boxes - not by a long way, IMHO hmm.gif

Our problem here is very simple:

1. Transparency
2. Liquidity
3. Confidence

All three are inter-related; if the powers that be do not or can not get ALL THREE right then we won't move forward.
IMHO - Just my opinion only.

This statement does not constitute an offer to sell or buy securities.....your country is at risk if you do not keep up re-payments secured on it.....blah.....blah......blah......etc......etc......etc.......
