To enable Push, read this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3576

Use SBsettings (get it via Cydia) and disable EDGE, 3G, SSH (if you installed) etc

For Mail, check under Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calenders

I have no problem with the  battery. I can last 5 days b4 it totaly drain off.

Why not You try 2 suggestion i give?

1) Backup all the contact etc manually (can find the method in pinned topic) and restore the phone. afterthat START the iphone as new phone (DO NOT restore from backup). and close all the push mail notice.

2)check the push mail notice and set all to manually and OFF

Hmm, I'm getting pretty worried about my iPhone 3Gs. It's generating quite alot of heat, so I was wondering, is it normal that iPhone generates that much heat? I understand that using any phone for a long time heat will definitely be generated but my iPhone is generating heat at a worrying level with just a short usage duration. Also, my phone is using a rubber-like full back casing which I purchased from Machines, could that be the problem? What worries me the most is that, back then, I came across a blog or article, saying that there is a case whereby a white iPhone went overheated and it somehow burned or something similiar to that and left some pink-like markings on the back of the phone cover. I've lost the link to the source and I don't know the reliability of that source which makes me worry even more.

Also, it seems like my iPhone battery duration is very very short. The battery level depletes very fast even when I'm not using it. The phone said that having 3G on will decrease the battery duration so I turned it off and yes I think I do notice slight changes but still not at an ideal level.

Lastly, I just got my iPhone from Maxis for about 3 days so my knowledge about iPhone is very limited, so please enlighten me. iPhone 3Gs do have bluetooth right? The bluetooth here ONLY refers to pairing with other devices which means I can't receive any files from other phones or send any files out? From my understanding, bluetooth enables user to transfer files across, so was wondering, is it my phone's problem or? I also went to look for alternatives to transfer files and I found Cydia. I know that in order to have Cydia working, I'll have to jailbreak my phone and Cydia works like an app store. In Cydia app store, there is an app which enables file transfering, right? I know my next question is a very preference base question, but do you all think Cydia is worth getting as I know by jailbreaking iPhones, it will void the waranty of the phone. Just wanna listen to some opinion. smile.gif

Alright, I guess that's all that I wanna ask. Thanks in advance!

Hmm...I turned all the push notification, 3G connection, bluetooth , location services , fetch mails all off and brightness at about 50%..but wi-fi still on. I don't know how to turn EGDE off cause I haven't jailbreak my phone and all the methods that I found requires SBsettings to turn EDGE off. After turning all those off, I tested my phone with Tap Tap Revenge 2, just with 2 and a half songs, battery level went down by 4% doh.gif I don't know if I have any problems in background which is running cause I went on app downloading frenzy so I openned quite a number of apps and I just hit the home button whenever I wanna leave apps. I dont know if this totally close the apps or just allows it to run in background. So my solution now will be restoring my phone like mentioned in earlier posts? Care to explain a lil more on the steps? I dont really get the process. Thanks.

7. Battery Drain Fast with iPhone 3.0? How to have longer battery usage?

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/1061070/+2
2. iPhone 3G/3GS with iPhone 3.0 BlueTooth allow to send files/data?

Note: There's an app on Cydia called 'iBluetooth' which enables bluetooth file transfer between iPhones/mobile phones. However, it wasn't made compatible with OS 3.0/3.0.1.

9. 3G iPhone Warranty
A: Claim warranty from the country that you bought the 3G iPhone from if there's defect or hardware related issues.
Online Service Assistance Warranty Check: https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do
*For those who have jailbreak your 3G iPhone(Maxis, Singtel etc), warranty will be void. Do an Erase All Content and Settings and restore to default settings before sending back for warranty.

on your question "do you all think Cydia is worth getting as I know by jailbreaking iPhones, it will void the waranty of the phone."

from my humble opinion, it brings much more benefits/convenience than harm/disadvantages. it enables your phone to perform tasks and specific functions which non-jailbroken iPhones wouldn't able to perform. (eg. themes customizing, background processing, killing off background running apps etc.)

besides, if you're worried about your warranty being void, just restore your phone to its original settings and it'll wipe out all the trace that the phone has been jailbroken before, before sending it in for warranty purpose. in short, you got nothing to lose. smile.gif

I read a battery guide the other day that the biggest "threat" to li-ion batteries is actually heat. All batteries eventually die off, but li-ion ones are apparently highly susceptible to heat, which greatly accelerates the rate of "decay" of the battery ... so the iphone, which already has crap battery life, also generates a lot of heat, which further rapes the battery ... it's a vicious cycle!

@ndri11 >> 1.5days is actually pretty good. On work days (i.e. I don't use the phone except for calls & sms) a full day takes about 70-80% of the battery life.

On weekends sometimes I'll be out of battery even before dinnertime.

in my case ,

been using the 3gs a few days from now ,

i have everything turned off ( fetch data , push notification ,location services ,3G) and my screen brightness stay at 70% (with auto brightness)
i can last for more then 1.5 days which i am alright with it ( averagelyif the phone is in sleep mode , battery percentage drop 1% per 60mins)

but i m that kinda person who always wanted to fully utilized which ever function the gadget provided, besides what's the point getting a 3G and push phone if we cant enjoy the joy that our baby brings? icon_rolleyes.gif

i tested with 70 % screen brightness , 3G off , push & location service and constantly have Bjeeve On . the battery averagely dropped 4~5% per hour ...and i m not sure if these is normal hmm.gif

can iphone gurusss share their battery usage too ? ?
i seriously hope the coming 3.1 OS will have better battery usage icon_question.gif

Hmmm, I think my battery is still depleting very fast even when I have 3G, push notification, fetch mail, location service, wi-fi all turned off. I'm trying to jailbreak my phone at the moment to turn off EDGE as well. I did a restore and started it as a new phone as well. Anything else that I could do?

I also got this app from the app store called "BatteryStatus". When I run the app when my phone is fully charged, it shows all the battery duration for different usage and this is the problem, my battery info is similiar to what apple stated on their site for iPhone 3G but not 3Gs. Why is this so? The battery status apps isn't reliable and or my battery itself is having problem?

if they are from the app store, they shouldn't be the culprit

Delete that and see. I havent tested which app is causing the problem but I also have fring. Tomorrow Im going to install back one at a time. Mine was depleting like 10% every hour - scary
Remember to let us know the results.

Please read this about fring - http://www.fring.com/blog/?p=1299
try turn off frings notification. if still drains, then uninstall it
