Hmmm, your reply kinda worries me, lol. Yes, we couldn't clarify if every 3Gs user is having this problem but why only "unlucky" ones get em? I thought Apple uses the same hardwares in putting the phone together? and after all the debates and discussions, we're safe to say that the problem is from the software but not the hardware, no? However like I mentioned in my earlier post, I downloaded an apps called "BatteryStatus" from the apps store and when I have my phone fully charged, the Battery Status shows my estimated duration of my battery at different kind of usage and I found out that the duration is same as 3G but not 3Gs from what Apple displayed at their site. So I'm puzzled here. Battery Status not being accurate or did I get an iPhone 3Gs with an iPhone 3G battery?
As for your question idoblu, I'm still using my iPhone quite often now with wi-fi on. So I can't really tell ya the result yet but later before I sleep, I check the battery and have everything turned off while letting it idle. Will update you with my finding later.

@teikwing
I had number 1~5,7,8 off from your list and it's same for me for number 6,10,11,12 like yours. The only different is that I still have SSH on as I still haven't read up on SSH so I don't dare to turn it off. Haha and you got to nearly 2 days of battery lifespan, mine barely go over half a day. Sad  cry.gif

the approximation provided by the app might not be accurate.

you can turn SSH off most of the time, unless when you intend to SSH into your phone. read more on SSH.

Guys, try this.

Turn off notifications for installed games such as Live Racing, Tap Tap Revenge, Mafia Wars and so on, from the Setting.

Here is my opinion, actually you wont too worry about the life of battery. iPhone3G and iPhone3GS have different hardware set. Apple do upgrade on component of 3gs to increase the phone performance and speed, but the battery is REMAIN the same like i3G. So, of course the hardware upgrade will absolutely use more energy to support that hardware, right? Then it will cause drain of battery.And also Apple would not expect users to use iPhone to play game all hours, or surf net few hours continously.
It cant compare with other nokia or SE as iphone have bigger screen and CPU is higher than those normal phone. It is just like you laptop battery can tahan you surf net all the day?
I can see this happen on i3gs than i3g more obvious and complaint by many users that they need charged battery everyday. I just can advise use i3gs wisely, always in sleep mode if doesn't use it.

Alright will do some reading on SSH, but at the mean time, I have it off first biggrin.gif As for the Battery Status app, well, if my phone battery doesn't depletes so fast, I wouldn't even care about that app tongue.gif but since the phone battery duration is having problem and the statistic the apps is showing otherwise, I can't help it but to feel worried unsure.gif

@Cainz
I turned the push notification off already and when asked if I wants to enable push notification upon starting the game, I always choose no, so yea smile.gif

@geo-milano
Yes, I understand what you're trying to tell me but I'm not using it fully for online or game purposes. Most of the time, I left the phone at sleep mode as I do travel around. I dont even have 3G on most of the time as this is my first month with the phone and I heard some problems with over usage of data transfering so I wanna limit my usage first. I only go on wi-fi when I go for a drink when wi-fi is available and I think this is what most ppl with iPhone do, a decent amount of time on intenet and gaming. However, later before I go to sleep, I'll conduct another experiment regarding the battery problem and will share the outcome of the experiment.

Hey guys,

Since this morning I have been having problem with the battery draining, and I haven't even JB it yet.
It was full the night before, and dead when I woke up. (5 hours)
I tried restore it from backup, JB it, set all the services off (e.g. push, wifi, edge, location service) and kill all processes running behind but to no avail.

Alas, I tried something I haven't tried before and it actually solved my battery draining issue!!

What I did was simply turning off the notifications for Tap Tap Revenge, Mafia Wars, Live Racing and so on. You can find these from the Settings > Notifications.
Below are the sample images of what I had experienced.

1.user posted image 2.user posted image 3.user posted image 4.user posted image

1. Here I had 3G and all the services turned off.

2. Problem not solved. I lost more than 15% in one and half hour. I tried turning 3G, because I was thinking perhaps it been trying hard to boost antenna receiver since I have been receiving poor reception. Calls can't get through to my phones. (Reception was fine on the day before, same spot, same place, same time - different day) mad.gif

3. Lost 18% in half an hour time! Definitely not helping. vmad.gif

4. Turned off notifications for the games mentioned above. ALAS!!! EUREKA!!!!!! sorta.. 1% in half an hour time. Time now is 11:53, it still maintain 34%!!! rclxm9.gif

Cheers. smile.gif

Hey guys,

I'm creating this as new topic to create awareness for those who had been having problem with the battery draining fast. Feel free to nuke or move this if this is not appropriate. Sorry for that.

I like Fring so I tried it again. This time I disable Notifications first before installing Fring. Then I installed Fring and it gave me a message about Notification. I ignore that.

I signon to Fring. Ok can see my buddies. Then click Home button to exit. I got
WIFI=on
Notifications=off
3G=on
Push=on

So far so good, no drop in battery levels during standby mode.

My previous setting was the same but the only different was that Notification was turn on before I installed Fring, then after installation, I turn off Notifications - it didnt help

Note: There's an app on Cydia called 'iBluetooth' which enables bluetooth file transfer between iPhones/mobile phones. However, it wasn't made compatible with OS 3.0/3.0.1.

*
offtopic:-

'iBluetooth' is compatible with OS 3.0 but not compatible with i3gs and itouch2g, dunno about OS 3.0.1

back to the topic:-

i'm still newbies in iphone bandwagon and the 1st couple of days i received my i3gs i can say that i really tortured my phone.

jailbreak, installed and tried every possible things until the battery went to 0% within 3 hours

what i found is my battery will drain fast when using GPS (Sygic) which is 30% of battery usage in 30-40 mins

right now with only "Phone Process" running and on rare occasion using wifi and 3G for surfing and check email, and sometimes ipod and games my phone still survive with 61% to go and has been stand by for 1 Day, 10 hours

Hey all, I conducted an experiment and my iPhone 3Gs used up only 5% of its battery for about 9 hours of standby time! wooo! Well, the only steps I took before conducting the experiment was deleting a few apps. I deleted Fring as well as a few other free games (Sorry I couldn't remember the names) and it works. Sorry this may not be a very constructive reply or solution, but like what idoblu suggested, maybe delete fring? or other IM apps then have a test run to see if that would help for battery issues. You can reinstall them anytime right if you're a must-have IM user biggrin.gif Give it a shot!

glad to hear that it solved your battery problem. btw i installed back fring and confirmed this time no problems since yesterday. I had installed and uninstalled a few times with always the battery been drained. this time what i did was turn off notifications first then installed back fring. no battery draining problems after that - try and let me know if that fixes it.

btw i also have Yahoo Messenger installed

Oh hey idoblu smile.gif I'll try re-installing Fring later as I'm still enjoying my iPhone battery at the moment tongue.gif For first time ever since I got my phone, I can have its battery to run normally so yea, still enjoying. Trying to check out how long can my phone last me without the battery problem, so it might take a few days. When I'm done, I'll conduct somemore experiment by re-installing fring or other IM apps and re-comfirm if it's the culprit of my problem.

Hi peeps. Notice alot of ppl are reporting battery issues but there are a few cases here where the cause of the battery drain is not out of the ordinary and solutions to those have already been brought up before by others here and also apple themselves i.e. Turning off push, 3g, etc.

Suggestion to put this links on the main page of the thread:
Pretty good compilation of tips:
Iphone battery guide and charging tips

Apple's own website:
http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html

From battery university, pretty legit source of info regarding lithium ion batteries:
http://www.batteryuniversity.com/parttwo-34.htm

Might help everyone determine if their battery drain is really caused by an actual defect or just unoptimized user settings for the phone.
