Update: battery still drain out superfast with all network access blocked + BeejiveIm push notification turn off. Also experience some interference with nearby speaker when the phone is out from sleep mode.

Summary of experiment till now:

0. 3G and edge off, BeejiveIM PNS off -> battery life as normal compare to old firmware
1. 3G and edge on, BeejiveIM PNS on -> battery life as normal compare to old firmware
2. 3G and edge off, BeejiveIM PNS on -> battery drain out fast
3. 3G and edge off, BeejiveIM PNS from on to off -> battery drain out fast
4. Logoff BeejiveIM + PNS on, 3G and edge off -> battery drain out fast
5. Logoff BeejiveIM + PNS off, 3G and edge off -> battery drain out fast

Observation on (4) & (5) - scrolling on long list eg. contacts and btw home screen showing sign of sluggishness.

Removing the BeejiveIM app solve the sluggishness problem on (4) while restarting the phone after step (5) solve the sluggishness and battery drain issue.

yawn.gif time consuming experiment...

I am also experiencing battery drain on my iphone 2G after upgrading to OS 3.0. I literally see the battery percentage dropping in front of my eyes!

I will have it charge at night at 100%, when I wake up in the morning, it will be 80%, get to work 70% and by the time i reach home its 40%. This is with push, bluetooth, wifi, edge all OFF.

I removed my app with push functionality out today. Testing to see if this will help.

@Nimzai,
You're most welcome. Yeah I forgot to mention about the screen brightness. Mine is on default at about 50% biggrin.gif

Mine is at 40%. Fetch, push, all disabled. Running only on 3G (my office line is a 3G only line). Wifi has been on since 7 am to 10 am.

This morning battery started at 92%, now holding at 72%.

I dunno if this data will help anyone, but here goes.

No mote battery drain like last time. I've make it a point to always remember to log off Beejive, thus disabling Push Notification. Even dyer long sessions of Doom Resurrection and Rolando 2, battery drain is as expected. Now with Mophie Air, it us back to being able to use my 3G[S] the whole day without worry of battery depletion.

Funny how a few weeks back we were all clamoring for Push Notification and now we turn that disgusting thing off whenever we can! laugh.gif

@stringfellow,
Are U having heat issues on ur phone?! I was out to lunch earlier and a colleague was playing with the phone, afterwhich I went onto BeejiveIM for a bit and realised the phone was a little hot...

there has been quite a number of users with battery issues since upgrading to 3.0 so i guess it's a common problem.

Yup, it gets hot. Not scalding hot, but warm to the touch. I was playing Doom Resurrection while having the background music playing music from the iPod, and it gets warm, warm enough to be felt through the Mophie Air.

i heard to fix battery problem on 3.0 firmware mostly turn off PUSH thingy.
other than that

i read some web site i heard that condition (Battery Drain) happened because the battery condition is not completely healthy meaning : usage of battery not healthy, ex. charge not completely full, we plug off from charger etc

So some web site suggesting we do Cycled battery and Calibration

How to :
1. Fully charge your iphone, Do not use it meanwhile in charge condition
2. After full, use it until completely drain, battery dead
3. Fully charge again, for about 2-4 hours
4. Process done, your battery full re-calibrated

Hope this would help a bit

I hope apple do fix this issue though, cause 3.0 is really good to resist, other than battery problem..................

From what I observe last time (posted in one of the thread here). IF your push notification is set to on, and your iPhone is unable to access to the cellular data (e.g. jailbreak phone with EDGE off, or problem with the Carrier data [Couldn't use internet on 3G] etc.) your iPhone will try to connect to the internet constantly trying to fetch data off the push notification server, thus the super fast drainage of your iPhone Battery.

Solution for those who don't use cellular data (e.g. EDGE off) and want to extent the battery life = turn off push notification, turn off 3G (since u're not using cellular data anyway)

I guess push notification is only useful for those who are on cellular data plan or iPhone plan, or PPL who are not worried about the expensive on-the-go cellular data.

When my battery was draining that fast (even while charging, it is still draining) the last time round, I found out that there is a problem with VodafoneNZ 3G data in my area, as I can't surf internet while I'm on 3G, but able to do so on GPRS. turning off my 3G solve the battery draining issue (push notification still on). Now that VodafoneNZ 3G data in my area is back to normal, I can turn back on my 3G and battery life is back to normal even with all my Push notification on (incl. Beejive)

mine using digi ..and currently my problem is almost same with you , but my situation is , the DiGi signal is not so strong within iphone 3G.

the signal bar will be gone in a few seconds after i tried to use edge .

but if i'm using maxis ...it is fine ...no connection dropped while on the net or on call

plus battery draining although i didn't switch on "push notification" or enabling 3G ....that's strange
