Here is the first pro review of the TX-P50S10.

Review

Looks like the cheap price of this new plasma tv from panasonic is cheap for a reason...entry level with so so picture only. Here is the first pro review of the TX-P50S10.

Added on July 6, 2009, 11:27 pmFor those of u still undecided between the G10 or the S10 pana plasma, this review from whathifi might help you decides.

Whathifi review

One thing surprising from 2 pro reviews is that the TX-P50S10's image is not as sharp or details as one would like.  That is strange considering the fact that this is a Full HD screen.

I saw the TX-P42S10's picture was not as sharp as Kuro 428XG even though the Kuro is only 1024x768 rez. And the TX-P42S10's got shadow from certain angle and also chromatic errors (rainbow effect). Need good eyes to see it. Go figure. smile.gif

Kuro 428XG, I can notice immediately it was not a 1366x768 panel let alone full-hd panel from normal shop display viewing. so how to say it's sharp resolution to begin with??

At 2.5 times screen width (about 8.5ft for 42 inch TV), the pixel resolution cannot be distinguished during viewing. All that matters beyond this distance is how well contrast is handled, which of course Kuro is miles ahead. But of course if you are watching from 5 feet away (some people actually do!), you can see all the dots.

I watch my HD materials at 1.5-2X.. that's what HD is for.. smile.gif of coz, I do realize this is a TV not a projector but habits, when reviewing stuffs like this, will make me watch at 2x minimum.. if start seeing pixels instead of the picture.. than that is quite distracting.. funny didn't really notice these stuffs previously, but since full HD start to be more common on 42-50inch TVs and that provides a baseline expectation of what minimum good quality panel pixel gaps should be like (i.e. non visible pixel structure at min. 2x distance) and now, I feel 1024x768 start to show their shortcomings..

also, it's all about the viewing cone.. if it's too narrow, you watching telly.. and that's bad as far as my Blu-rays are concerned... sorry but 1024x768 aint cut it in this day and age (year 2009).. maybe 3-4years ago still acceptable..

Managed to see the P50S10 just now in QBM. The reflection on the glass is really bad...especially when the image is dark.

But if U have a theater-like lighting at home should be fine.

that is really bad news. It is as bad as the 42S?

If like that, I might as well buy LCD despite knowing plasma is better technology.

The 50 was placed right beside the 42. I didn't really look that long, but IIANM, the reflection on the 50 was worse, probably because the screen is bigger. tongue.gif

I was at SenQ 2 days ago and saw a Pioneer Kuro there. I check out the screen and the refelction is just as bad as the panasonic. But why no one complaint about the Kuro?

I did look at the 50X10 and it does have very bad reflective screen. I am not too sure how they will look in my house because at the showroom, there are just too many bright TVs in the surrounding and the showroom itself is too brightly lighted. Maybe at home we might not really notice any reflection as there is no really "bright" object to cause any bad reflections.

Is RM6399 ridiculous price? Have you check the price of other FULL HD LCD or plasma of the same size and compare the price? The last time I check, even a 46" LCD cost more than that and a 50" Full HD LCD is easily more than RM10k.

I personally think that RM6399 the lowest price for a 50" Full HD LCD or plasma currently on the market.

Comparing the X and the S series, the S series has a much better anti reflectance coating. The only difference is the X series appears as though there is no coating.

All plasmas use glass, there is bound to be reflection. Kuro is the same no difference. Panasonic X series is not that great in ARC, the S seems to be the same as any other plasma.

Not sure why there seems to be so much complaints abt the S series, it looks normal to me.

Maybe the comparisons are made in reference to LCD.

I agree. Full HD is more expensive, especially at 50in. Panasonic has made all the efforts to bring down the price of a full HD plasma. Last years 50PY850 was almost RM13k.... For those people who think it is still expensive, maybe next year it will go down more. Remember a 34in CRT was almost RM4500 just a few years ago. Now at the same price you can get a 50in 768p set.

Prices will fall every year. If you want the set, get it within your affordable means.

I guess the bad reflection is due to too many light emitting tvs in the surrounding on the showroom.

yeah, I think the same also, its the same with Kuro, but nobody complains about it. Its just as reflective as the Pana.

The best price I got with no frills but with Ori HDMI wire was rm5800/.
