If money is not a factor, then go for the U2410. I believe it's the updated version of Dell's wildly successful 2408WFP.

Another good choice would be the Dell 2209WA. Only drawback is it doesn't have HD resolution. But both should be above average monitors seeing as they use IPS panels.

At that price, go for Dell's 2209W. It falls nicely in your budget range and is full HD to boot. I've read good stuff about that monitor and am seriously considering getting it myself.

My dell 2407WFP 24" monitor just fail on me the second time and this time the Warranty expired joh.
The problem is with the power on/off button again... it got stuck and i cant on my monitor. Dell said they wont fix it even if i paid them.

So now i planning to get another Dell monitor but i notice this Alienware 21.5" frm dell.... the price is a lot expensive than the 24"... the contrast lvl and the response time is better too.... but do u guys think tat it is a value buy? Or should i just go and buy the 24" better.

If you are willing to fork out 1k for the monitor, why not consider the 2209WA? The e-IPS panel looks seriously amazing, provided you can stomach not having a HDMI connection and a 1680 x 1050 resolution.

@zero_hour;
It's so cheap that a missing HDMI connection doesn't matter much. Another plus, apart from the price, would be it's higher brightness level than all other ST models. Currently running on a screen with a 250nit brightness level myself, and IMHO it's too dark even at the highest setting.
