Dear All

I guess its about time for me to do a bit of spring-cleaning. So I've decided to come up with a thread whereby users are allowed to post latest announcements from TM . This makes it easier for users to check if there is something wrong with TM or not.

Keep in mind that you're allowed to post announcements from TM and this is not a place for you to rant. If you want to rant and tell the world how lame is your ISP , feel free to head over here.

We'll not tolerate rants posts here

Thank You

Does this mean the suffering of streamyx users are coming to an end?

Small Rant: I hate it when they use the word "may" like... customers nationwide may experience a disruption of service during the stipulated period. What the hell, will there be 100% no internet or will there be internet to use on that day? That is what we need to know...

Please do not rant here, this thread is for those that find it hard to access TM's website to get updates. It is also to inform this community in lowyat forum about TM's matters as we all know they are rather messed up. It also makes it easy for us to keep track of what TMis doing to improve connectivity which is sometime useful when making complaints/cases against them. It might also, indirectly, shows streamyx users that despite their claims of upgrades, nothing seems to change.

Also, many of us treat LYN as home, knowing when is the outage going to occour will help us plan our time better too...

It will defy the point of this thread if there is ranting here.

INTERNET SERVICES DISRUPTION

Dear Valued Customers,

Referring to our earlier statement on 21 July 2009 on the disruption of our Internet services due to circuit faults on the Asia Pacific Cable Network 2 (APCN2) Segment 1 between Kuantan and Katong, Singapore, Telekom Malaysia Berhad ™ wishes to announce that there is a delay in the restoration of Internet services due to technical problems at the repairing stages.

ANNOUNCEMENT ON CONFLICKER WORM

Dear Valued Customers,

Telekom Malaysia Berhad ™ wishes to inform its customers that they may be experiencing slow browsing due to the widespread infection of the Conflicker Worm

Conficker, also known as Downup, Downadup and Kido, is a computer worm that surfaced in October 2008 and targets the Microsoft Windows operating system. The worm exploits a previously patched vulnerability in the Server service used by Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2008, Windows 7 Beta, and Windows Server 2008 R2 Beta.

The Conficker worm is a computer worm that can infect your computer and spread itself to other computers across a network automatically, without human interaction. It is a standalone malicious program which uses computer or network resources to make complete copies of itself. It may include code or other malware to damage both the system and the network

Conflicker infects other computers across a network by exploiting the vulnerability in the Windows Server service (SVCHOST.EXE). It might spread through file sharing and via removable drives, such as USB drives (also known as thumb drives). The worm adds a file to the removable drive so that when the drive is used, the AutoPlay dialog box will show one additional option. The Conflicker worm can also disable important services on your computer.

TM strongly encourages its customers to update unpatched systems as soon as possible. Additionally, TM recommends that customers take the following preventive measures to help mitigate the security risks:
Step 1 – Turn on your firewall - Point to Control Panel -> Network and Internet Connections ->Windows Firewall.
Step 2 - Update Windows - Open up Internet Explorer and go to http://update.microsoft.com. Do all the urgent or required updates.
Step 3 - Verify that your antivirus software is on and keep it up-to-date. You should have a “resident” (always running) antivirus software installed such as Norton, McAfee, AVG, Trend Micro, etc. Open your antivirus and see if it is running and updated. Update it if it is not. You can also go to Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Security Center to verify that antivirus is running.

For additional information about this threat, please visit

This is not internet related, but it's posted on Streamyx's website.
It says telephony interruption, but well if your telephone line is interrupted I don't think you will be able to have a DSL signal or internet line.
