Hi all,

I have recently changed my Maxis package to include unlimited data and I've been unable to reconnect to the Internet. Previously, I followed the instructions listed here:

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/868281

to disable the APN settings. Could someone tell me how to enable my 3G again? Thanks.

i have no idea idea then.

perhaps you can make sure that the actual 3G network on that SIM card is working, on another 3G phone.

if that fails, other than restoring (and set up as a new phone), i cannot figure anything else

today i walked in a maxis shop in a mall purposely to ask about the 3gb data limit for iData rm99/mth plan appeared in the maxis website.

the sales girl reply me by saying that its still unlimited, just that if you exceed the 3gb bandwidth u will experience "slow down" when u download things, but for normal surfing it will be unaffected.

so i asked, isnt surfing is same as downloading? when u r surfing u are "downloading" the webpage to your phone.

she said its different, surfing is surfing, download is download.

and i walked out from the shop knowing i shouldnt waste my time anymore.

so can anyone confirm that the idata plan is really unlimited despite its written "3gb" in the maxis website?

Most ISP use this feature. It is called fair usage policy or fair access policy.

When you reach the limit, the traffic from your device, will be less prioritize, than the other traffic from another device that does not yet reach the limit.

Thus making your surfin and downloading seem slower. If you use your device at 3 AM (or whenever) and there is no other traffic, your speed would be normal (best effort).

For larger size of fair usage policy, for you home computer, consider Streamyx or P1 W1max.

@kenso77,
To re-enable your APN, go to Settings and DELETE the Profile. After that, it should work; if it doesn't, restart ur iPhone and voila u'll be streaming in data biggrin.gif

@cloudeen,
The RM99 Unlimited Plan from Maxis is NOT unlimited though the CS tells U so. My Maxis insider tells me it caps at 3GB and anything AFTER the 3GB is chargeable!

there you go, i knew there gotta be a pitfall ahead. moral of the story is to believe what u see in website rather than CS.

but according to the website, for general mobile internet plan, rm99 entitle you for unlimited usage.

therefore the unlimited bandwidth is only applicable if u signup WITHOUT taking the iphone (idata plan)? if you take the plan with iphone its capped at 3gb?
what a stupid idea. duh

@cloudeen,
I don't know what U read and I've learnt that Maxis websites can be changed plus their CS so I usually take what I get from my Insider. Also I didn't sign up for my "Unlimited" plan WITH the iPhone plan.

My insider tells me, it's 3GB capped nevertheless biggrin.gif So I suggest U take note of this 3GB capped thingy. Apparently it's the same on the USB modems too *shrugs* I didn't ask much about that because I don't have one biggrin.gif

for those who are concern, the ivalue data plans is only designed for the different ppls with different needs. The lowest commitment is likely suitable for those who use less data eg checking mails,browse the net..download? better use the wifi, hence,it will sufficient for the rest of the day.

its not shocked that ivalue would have this trouble as i been seen one of maxis customers were being charge for nearly a thousand, data only without included the sms and voice call charges. therefore, the normal that the customer consultant said 'it cheap already' to you.

but, one thing for sure, maxis doesnt understand how the data charge applied and their system have something wrong with it. As you can see, they offer us 333 minuets,but, they still charging us base on value, checking balance via the easy access told me the value we have use~ have you ever wondering since the bill is combine with the voice and data, how can they still use the same old system? its kinda confusing.

and, no matter which ivalue you are in, the data charge is matter of concerns and most peoples were charge sometime twice or more they are subscribing for.

I should probably add that I'm inserting a data SIM card (the one that comes with the Huawei USB modem Maxis sells) to the iPhone. There was a massive Mac roadshow in Midvalley these few days and I asked one of the Maxis staff there. According to him, the Iphone does not recognise the data SIM card. Is this true?

@kenso77,
If I ain't mistaken the SIMs on those USB modems do NOT work the same as the ones we have on our phones. They just don't receive or make calls.

Just wanting to shed sm light on tis matter. I've seen n used my frens 3g used with a dg data only sim. He chooses to use data only on i3g. Surfing n other data activities r working fine. Just can't kal n SMS. So I tink it's no prob thr to use a data only sim on i3g.

I have called Maxis 123 and they say the same thing tinkerbel says which is the data SIM card is different from the normal SIMs and therefore, the Iphone could not recognise it. Harmeet15, which telco company your friend is using with the iphone? When I tried using the Maxis data line, I get no signal at all.

@harmeet15,
The theory is right about using it on the iPhone but perhaps in order for the SIM to get a line, it first needs a modem to call out? *smiles*

Have you try to surf using Safari? Check whether can load data eventho 3G, and EDGE has been disable.
