I used a non-JB set.  Initially, I just put in some crap stuff in the APN.  When Maxis was officially announced as the official provider here in Malaysia, I ter-updated my network settings and my APN settings "disappeared"; I then created a fake profile.  It worked for me and a couple of my friends; have no idea why it's not working for U though *shrugs*

You could always check with Maxis if they'll allow you to upgrade but from iValue 1 to iData they might not entertain U.  If it's iValue 1 to iValue 3 maybe got chance   Anyhow, no harm checking with Maxis.  Also, don't forget to ask for waiver of whatever fees needed to be paid.

I've been told by those using jailbroken phones that their usage counter ain't too accurate.  It apparently is quite accurate on the non jailbroken phones.

and is there any charges if i play games using iPhone?
I'm not very sure how they charge me but last month my data usage suddenly become quite high compare to normal. As I remembered I din not use much to surf net. Only on facebook and email.

there are games which connects to its server for high score updates & news. disable your 3G/EDGE to prevent any data usage.

Hmm does this mean that, even though you aren't doing anything and have MMS, and notifications turned off somehow the EDGE thing will still use some bandwidth? or the phrase "Phone Credit Flying out the window" refers to activities that actually have to use the service ?

how about for 2g? how do we know whether the games are connected to server or not.

I have reset the statistic just now and when I check again there is data sent and received. But in fact I'm not using it. The 'E' is always appear on the screen.

basically, yes. and it'll depends on the apps that you have in your phone. check your data usage column in Settings. the best way to prevent all these unwanted data usage is to disable EDGE/3G according to the guide in my last post.

however, most apps ill only utilise few KBs most of the time. for Maxis, 10kb = RM1. (used ESPN ScoreCenter to check the latest football scores and the app only uses around 10kb for score updates)

I kena from maxis charging me rm346 celcom rm200 something for Internet usage.. Can read from my blog for more info.. Anyway, to summarize, I don online but iPhone auto online when I open apps then kena.. My maxis is ivalue plan with 500mb free but still kena rm346.. D usage not talley with my iPhone data counter.. So what do u Think?

yes. it may not track all the things from cydia. i have checked on the *100# and i have even try to download some stuff on cydia and the counter does not increase. my phone usage differ with the *100# for maxis.

RM346 is like 692MB extra over and above the 500MB you have.  I certainly don't think it's possible to go overboard by so much especially if it's only because you ter-opened an application connecting u to the Internet.

Best if you go speak with Maxis on your issue.

Have u oredi disabled APN and all?  If so and if you open Safari and any other applications that need to utilise the web, it'll tell U that u do not have connection and the page just won't load

You should be fine then.  Go to Stocks or Weather to give it a try - it shouldn't work either cause it'll need you to connect to the internet.

The E icon will be there, it just means there's Edge coverage in the area you're in.  Also, you shouldn't be charged for wifi and u should have no problems getting onto the Internet if you're connected to Wifi
