@vui_msia,
U might as well use the feature that's built-in with your phone. It may not be 100% accurate but it wouldn't be too inaccurate either.

@Brick1235,
The Maxis Unlimited Plan is really up to 3GB. Anything over it, U'll be charged on a pay per use usage up to a maximum of RM250!

@davidmak,
You're absolutely right - the damn "meter" on my phone tells me I haven't been using much too and I subscribed to the damn RM99 plan! However, it will definitely come in handy when I get to a place and need Internet Tethering biggrin.gif I foresee the usage to increase tremendously then.

In fact, to ensure my battery life is a little longer, I'm thinking of just disabling Wifi (doesn't look like I be utilising the entire "unlimited" plan anyways!).

@daryl.k,
I'd been using the iPhone for about 11 months now; during that time I've travelled to a couple of countries but haven't been charged a single cent on roaming charges because there's an option to switch OFF roaming.

As to when you're in town locally and wish to switch off 3G/EDGE charges, all U need to do is to disable APN and it'll stop data from streaming into your phone - thus far, no dispute on my Maxis bill.

There are several forummers here who are on Celcom and DiGi plans so yes the iPhone will work on those plans too. Please refer to pinned thread on iPhone for more information biggrin.gif

@vui_msia,
Since your monthly usage is less than 500MB why don't U just sign up for the 500MB plan and pay less instead of the RM99 plan? Or, are U NOT on the RM99 plan *grins*

@vui_msia,
I never really uhm used my data services (3G) in the past (only on a pay per use and that was v rare too!) but since 3.0 I've decided to go with the RM99 Unlimited Plan (btw it's not unlimited but capped at 3GB)

I guess I will monitor my usage from next month onwards; come 1 Jul and see how it goes for the next few months before I decide if I should go with a 'cheaper' less 'flexible' plan but heheh I think if one uses the phone for Internet Tethering, it's wise to use the Unlimited Plan.

@vui_msia,
I'm on the move quite a bit so the Internet Tethering will come in handy on those ocassions; then I will only worry about low battery levels *grins*

Also, I figured it's more worth it subscribing to this plan than getting the USB modem separately; at least this one I can abuse use it with my iPhone biggrin.gif

@vui_msia,
Other than it's ridiculous speed and ocassional down time, I have nothing much to complain about re Streamyx; at least it works! tongue.gif

Thus far, I've used both Maxis & Celcom USB modem and I'll rate it about the same; unless ur in Sabah/Sarawak then Celcom is definitely handier biggrin.gif

@vailance,
Are U sure APN has been disabled? If it's not disabled, the data will continue to stream; even if you think you're not online. And when U press an app that needs data, it'll just auto stream in for u.

I suspect U having disabled APN.

@vui_msia,
Act, I realised Maxis USB modem does tend to cut U off after some time sad.gif

@wee395,
Just make sure APN disabled otherwise there will still be charged. Also, as mentioned by al3p if U haf Wifi available, Y need to connect online via BT when U can just directly connect to Wifi on ur laptop?

I haven't tested the use of Internet Tethering over a long period of time but I'm quite sure it's high battery consumption.

@Ken,
It is true because sometimes U just aren't aware you're streaming data in until U get ur bill and then U get a shock! It's a pre-warning that's all biggrin.gif

@aifoninfo,
Ahh... well to-date I haven't been able to access my web account so I guess there's nothing much for me to worry about biggrin.gif Tanks for the information though.

Er... it's time for an upgrade perhaps? biggrin.gif

@llsphinxll,
Er.. Blacklisted here means Ur no longer allowed to use the 3G network?! Er.. Y need a 3G phone if U can't use the 3G network?!

Also how bad was this "data streaming in" thingy?! How much MB were U using?!

@kenso77,
To re-enable your APN, go to Settings and DELETE the Profile. After that, it should work; if it doesn't, restart ur iPhone and voila u'll be streaming in data biggrin.gif

@cloudeen,
The RM99 Unlimited Plan from Maxis is NOT unlimited though the CS tells U so. My Maxis insider tells me it caps at 3GB and anything AFTER the 3GB is chargeable!

@cloudeen,
I don't know what U read and I've learnt that Maxis websites can be changed plus their CS so I usually take what I get from my Insider. Also I didn't sign up for my "Unlimited" plan WITH the iPhone plan.

My insider tells me, it's 3GB capped nevertheless biggrin.gif So I suggest U take note of this 3GB capped thingy. Apparently it's the same on the USB modems too *shrugs* I didn't ask much about that because I don't have one biggrin.gif

@kenso77,
If I ain't mistaken the SIMs on those USB modems do NOT work the same as the ones we have on our phones. They just don't receive or make calls.

@harmeet15,
The theory is right about using it on the iPhone but perhaps in order for the SIM to get a line, it first needs a modem to call out? *smiles*

@nodoubt,
I was using the i3G for almost 10 months without any problems with disabling of APN. Perhaps something changed since a lot of people seem to be having problems disabling APN. I don't remember paying a single cent to Maxis for unauthorised data usage charges.

Now I'm on a plan and am loving having the world at my finger tips smile.gif
