Unfortunately, no
Having said that, he was here at my home on Thurs night to check SVS. That was before SVS being calibrated. He was very impressed with PC's ability to hit really low bass, which he like a lot. He just commented that his SPL1200R not able to match it. The first noticable difference between SPL and PC is the ability to pressurise the room, which will give you the 'feel'. In this instance, any movies with really low LFE will torture most subs as it goes low. PC does that it with ease. Indy THX opening clip, Kung Fu Panda starting, Ironman Chapter 5, Master and Commander are being handled by SVS with powerful low end grunt No doubt SPL is one great powerful sub. But, it just couldn't go that low. It has the power to match. But, it just couldn't provide that kind of 'feel' since SVS is set to 16Hz with a port blocked. The tautness of bass is another keypoint to note. SVS bass is more refined. SPL sounds a bit muffled (maybe due to no self tuning). Bryan noted this difference. Since he is the rightful owner, he is in the best position to tell the difference. He felt that the PC outperforms SPL in areas that I mentioned earlier. Due to intimidating size of PC On Ironman Chapter 5, SPL managed to churn out powerful bass with precision and rumbles. I noted thatthe bass is quite 'wide' and bit muffled. This may be due to no self tuning, which I am not sure (Have to refer to Bryan). When Ironman walks out of the cave, the bass is heavy with enough weight. Impressive. My ex-CHT-12R will be left trailing here The PC does a bit more than that. You can actuall feel the heaviness of the machine when Ironman walks out. It is intoxicating. The room is filled with the immense LFE. Low end extension is well produced, which is quite daunting for most sub at this price range. I am a guy who likes to feel the action while movies. And this SVS PC12Plus did just that. Perfectly. Damn, now my ceiling really vibrates. CHT-12R unable to do that. SPL did that but w/o much feel to it. I can safely says that PC-12Plus sealed it. |

Thanks for the review!
Very tempted now... but as you said the size is one factor. I think I can deal with that. What I'm afraid of is whether my room can handle the SVS. With my current 12Q already my ceiling vibrates on Iron Man when he walks out of the cave and that's only on half volume! Die lah if SVS was here. BTW, were you listening at your normal volume? |

bass is not just about how loud or how low you can go. One must also consider the main speaker size and how the sub would match it. The whole idea of getting a loud bass that drown the main speaker is all wrong when it comes to bass. One must also look at the room size. No point having a 600HP engine on a kancil.

QUOTE(jchong @ Jun 6 2009, 08:30 PM) Thanks for the review! I am the kind of ppl who do not listen at very high volume level. At most is about -20dB. Reference level is at-6dB.Very tempted now... but as you said the size is one factor. I think I can deal with that. What I'm afraid of is whether my room can handle the SVS. With my current 12Q already my ceiling vibrates on Iron Man when he walks out of the cave and that's only on half volume! Die lah if SVS was here. BTW, were you listening at your normal volume? The bass extension is very good. Very few sub that I auditioned can do this. To go below 20Hz, only a handful of sub can do that. It just blends beautifully with my speakers. Bro, it is difficult to tell you how exactly 12Q being squashed by 12Plus until you tried it out. QUOTE bass is not just about how loud or how low you can go. One must also consider the main speaker size and how the sub would match it. The whole idea of getting a loud bass that drown the main speaker is all wrong when it comes to bass. One must also look at the room size. No point having a 600HP engine on a kancil. Erm, my front speakers aint that big but still looks daunting; it is using a 10" woofer and another 10" passive radiator, which works perfectly well for me til now. The PC-12Plus blends with it perfectly. My bro came yesterday. He was impressed that the sub is able to blends (some ppl call it 'invisible') and not overpowering the rest of the speakers I think you are talking about miscalibration of sub when you talk about loud bass. Some people tend to increase or crank the sub volume too high. In my case, I like hear things as it is. Since my listening level is not high, the normal recommendation would be +3dB for the sub. The SVS is overwhelming at +3dB. So, I tuned it down to +2dB. Not close yet. Ended up with +1dB, which is just nice. Of course, all being done by using SPL level meter and after YPAO. I could safely say that the SVS is purely movie sub. Then again, IMHO, I dont see the point of having a sub for stereo listening if you have a good pair of front speakers. That's why there isn't a sub pre-out in a stereo amp I think I have finally found a sub that wouldn't break my bank account Cheers |

Don't get wrong Htkaki. I am just responding to jchong comment that even his 12Q is already blowing his roof off.
I am sure the SVS is a great sub. In might even get myself one someday, but at the moment I have a sub which can do a decent job although its nothing close to great. What i mean is get a sub one can afford and that fits well with the main speakers and the room size. There is no limit to how low a sub can go but i'm sure all of us have a limit in how deep our pocket can go. Added on June 7, 2009, 12:59 am QUOTE(arremie @ Jun 6 2009, 11:49 PM) Why not? Obviously you haven't been inside one with ice box intercooler and twin NOS. You can't go far with it but for that 400m drag u will not remember u actually in a Kancil. Ever see one of those kancil crash before? That is when you don't remember u are actually in a Kancil. So in regard to this SVS sub, the point is you should first listen to one... Btw, listening at loud volume level for a long period of time WILL cause permanent damage to your hearing and there is no spare part to replace it. Just a little advise.
