If it's between D40 and D60, I would suggest a D40kit + and extra lens or flash.

Go nearer to your subject, wide open aperture. Make sure your camera is focusing on the near subject. The further the background relative to your subject, the more apparent the bokeh.

QUOTE(the_tranny @ Jun 13 2009, 09:15 AM)
the rule for max bokeh is = max tele or zoom + max aperture.
So if your lens is tele or zoom ranged, twist it to the max and set the aperture to the biggest. On max zoom/tele, you gonna have to move back a lot if your subject is big (eg : a person, a car)

Thanks for the tips... will try it again...thanks// smile.gif

guys,need some opinion here...
i'm planning on buying nikon dslr by the end of this month, and my budget is around rm1600 - rm2000, so i'm thinking of d40 / d60.
which one is better for a beginner like me?
pls help  notworthy.gif

I will suggest you to go for the D40. A good entry level dSLR, and definitely worth every penny. Save up to get a lens or perhaps SB 600 too! smile.gif

wah...the 18-135mm lens now cost about RM700 market price...if service also a few hundred ringgits... then worth considering buying a brand new lens lor....

btw... D5000 baru masuk included in this thread? how come we cannot merge D80 as well...   ptttbbbbttthhh  tongue.gif !!!!

comparing the quality of the pics taken:

D70 kit lens 18-70mm
D90 kit lens 18-105mm VR
The d70 kit has a higher IQ compared to d80 kit lens..and possibly comparable or better in 18-70mm range compared to d90 kit lens, but a plus for d90 kit lens is that it has VR.

D80 kit lens 18-135mm if compared to both above..it is the worst. so better spend money on 18-70 or 18-105VR

I would say it depends on your usage of the lenses. Having both the 18-70 and the 18-135 the 18-70 has the advantage of the f4.5 aperture at the long end. The 18-135 is in fact a very decent lens and is sharp at all focal lengths all the way from 18 to 135 but with all "superzooms" to achieve the sharpness there is a compromise in a more barrel distortion at the wide end and more chromatic abberation.

The 18-105VR has reduced the CA and the wide end problems and added VR to use lower shutter speed. For me I would take the 18-135 if I want to carry only one lens and the 18-70 with the 55-200VR. 18-105 I guess it is between.
