The Nikon D40 is an all new affordable, compact, point-and-shoot digital SLR from Nikon, it follows on from the D50 but at a significantly lower price point and with a subtly different feature set. The biggest news however is probably fact that Nikon resisted the temptation to keep chasing megapixels (hooray for that) and instead appear to have concentrated on what makes a good camera, a decent viewfinder, short shutter lag, very short viewfinder blackout. They've trimmed some of the 'less important features' (you can't change the exposure steps for example) but have squeezed a range of new features such as custom Auto ISO which we welcomed with the D80.

The Nikon D40 was announced just under four months ago, and yet here we are with a new version of that camera. The D40X has the same compact lightweight body and easy to use control layout, in fact the only external physical difference is the badge. Under the bonnet Nikon has swapped out the D40's six megapixel CCD for a ten megapixel unit, this also provides a lower base sensitivity of ISO 100 and must utilize dual readout because continuous shooting frame rate has gone up from 2.5 fps to 3.0 fps. Based on the specs and features this camera is clearly aiming to knock the EOS 400D (Digital Rebel XTi) off its pedestal.

D60 is a 10.2MP digital camera that will look and feel remarkably familiar to users of the D40X. It includes an anti-dust system that incorporates a self-cleaning sensor unit that shakes off dust, coupled with an airflow system designed to channel dust away from the sensor. The model also adds active d-lighting, a stop-motion recording mode and Expeed branding.

The idea of an upper-entry-level DSLR (for want of a better term), that sits below the 'enthusiast' grade D90 (with its twin control dials, big battery and pentaprism viewfinder), is hardly a radical one - the Canon 500D and Olympus E-620 seem to cater to a similar market.

Congratz on V5! I'm using D60, my next target is a flash! But under strict budget of RM400+-. I want to get SB600 but money not enough By the way, I tried my cousin's Nissin Di622 that she used for her Canon 450D, it cannot function on my D60. Why?

Still using my D40 here and happy shooting with it.

omg alpha_company, since u bought d60 u have been asking for lenses/flashes/batteries and now not even 1 month i think..and u wanna upgrade? Rich 

nikon 18-200 VRII and tamron 18-270 VC...which one better?

where did i mention MY lens? u tatau ka nikon ada 17-55 f2.8?   

and another thing, 18-55VR is not worth mentioning that it's "BETTER" than EDII. i would just say that it is comparable..not better. that's what i meant. please read throughly.
take this into consideration. the price of VR and EDII differs by rm200. the so called "better" VR costs more but when taking into mind Price:Performance ratio EDII is a better buy.

D40's kit lens not VR! Handheld with slow shutter speed still a problem for me.

BTW im using nissin di622 flash, so far so good, but when I hang my D40+di622 on my neck the camera becomes unbalanced... the whole camera points downwards... Too heavy...

I wanna ask something. If shooting macro in somewhere indoor and insufficient lighting, the Di622 cannot illuminate the subject completely! The flash is too far away frm the lens, so only the upper part of the object is illuminated. I use bounce card lagi teruk. If i use wireless, I need someone to hold the flash for me T_T

Anyone can teach me some tips?

Dear all, need advice on flash.
im gonna get a sb600 ( that the close i can get due to budget constrain)
but the question is
1.shoudl i go for new ones or 2nd hand ones?

2.do they have a life span as in the bulb/or izzit lumen

3.how much would the bulb/lumen cost if i were to replace them?

from what i survey, new ones is abt 800 and 2nd hand on 400 onwards.
so the price difference really amaze me

cant find any decent ones.
all in not a very good shape.
