@gfx quite frankly, I upgrade my MBP to a dual HDD/SSD setup not because of my needs, but because of the temptation to customize my MBP to the max tongue.gif

Joking aside, its true what others are saying that SSD is the best upgrade you could make, and once you've feel the SSD, you won't go back to HDD.

self satisfactory... yeah.... maybe i need that too. lol.. been reading what you guys has been discussing here, mostly is just because YOU CAN!!... lol.. so, is it worth it? since upgrading to SSD pros is self satisfactory, faster speed, .. and cons is decrease battery life, and void of warranty..

No, just changing the hard disk won't void your warranty, just as adding ram yourself does not void the warranty. Dual setups which replaces the optical drive does void the warranty however.

After hard disk replacement, and also RAM, I noticed my right speaker rattles/vibrates when I'm doing playbacks of music louder than 80% of the volume. I'm currently using Mac Book Pro Mid 10'.

okay, after a few hours "thinking" and reading around, i found myself wanting to have a SSD in my mbp 2011. thinking about getting one from amazon.com OCZ Vertex 2.5Inch Solid VTX3 25SAT3 120G.. so, for the questions to all the pros here, should i, or shouldn't i? i guess, for me, a 120gb should be more than enough since i don't really watch movies on my mbp... so? what say you guys?

Adding SSD means faster booting up (Less than ten seconds)

Faster application loading (One bounce of the icon and straight away open)

Faster anything that accesses the storage.

Plus you can move your computer around without having to worry about crashing the hard disk head.

Minus the smaller storage (Unless your are rich)

Minus the odd problems that may crop up (Strange BSOD errors)

ditto. just be sure to always back your stuff up. cause while ssds are better in almost every aspect (except for the price that is) they are known to crap out without any notice.

hi guys,

just wanna share personal experience n highlight that if u own a macbook pro 7.1 (13" mid 2010 model), buying 1333mhz KVR ram upgrade just would disappoint. yeah, already know the MBP is meant to run at 1066, but just went with the general assumption that rams can be read at lower speed (usually thats the case). i bought 2 x 4gb kingston KVR ddr3 ram modules at 1333mhz (1066 no stock) and it just won't run it at lower speed or boot, this sucks....

apparently its quite known for this specific model. too bad i googled about it AFTER the purchase (guide is HERE).... too long of a workaround for me and i'm running VMware for windows, not bootcamp doh.gif . any tips before i let it go/trade is very much appreciated.

try just installing one RAM at a time. maybe one of them is faulty.

im using 1333mhz RAM too, where my MBP 5,1 only accepts 1066mhz. running fine so far, corsair valueram

@krazee_k If you put in the combination of 1066 and 1333, it'll work. Why don't you make do with that combination first while trying to find a Windows machine with Thaiphoon burner. Do note that not all rams can be down clocked, so google first. If they can't, no other choice but to sell/trade.

tried both of the tips. result is:
(lets say the kingston 1333 rams are RAM A and RAM B)

scenario 1:
tried one of the existing rams(1067) with ram A, booted into osx, no errors. listed as 6Gb ram at 1067Mhz

scenario 2:
plugged out ram A and inserted ram B (with existing 2gb ram@1067), booted into osx, no errors, listed as 6gb at 1067mhz

scenario 3:
inserted ram A and B(both 1333), and its stuck again....

so, can confirm that both new 4gb rams are good, and can confirm that apparently this specific mid 2010 13" MBP (model 7.1) can't clock both rams down to 1067mhz unless one of them already is running at 1067mhz, as listed in the article i found earlier, bummer.... so now I'm either left with:

1. selling/trading both for 1066mhz rams (u guys got any links for a trade in? i topup a bit also don't mind, just wanna solve this as soon as i can)
or
2. just buy one 4GB piece at 1067 and stick it in and sell one of the 1333 ones.

time to advertise in the trade zone i guess since i got no window based laptop to try the thaipoon burner sad.gif

hi guys, i own a mbp 13" early 2011 model. i read that bumping up the ram to 8GB will also bump up the intel hd3000 ram from 384MB to 512MB. does anyone know if just bumping up to 6GB will achieve the same results for the video ram? i know i know...price already so cheap why not go for 8GB rite? problem is i'm a little low on budget and have already committed $ for other more important things.

so i wanna up the ram in order that in bootcamp win7 64-bit all the ram will be usable as well as increasing the video ram to 512mb will help with gaming. i know that mbp's aren't made for gaming. for that i already have a gaming pc back in my hometown waiting for me come xmas break. the thing is.. skyrim was just released and i cannot wait already to kill me some dragons. rawr!!!!

any advice on this will be much appreciated.

intel hd3000 for skyrim..... that's one of the most gpu-intensive games out there, but i dont know if it'll scale well to the hd3000.

my advice... dont bother with upgrading your RAM if it's for skyrim. i dont know if it'll increase the VRAM but 384mb to 512mb is a very very small difference. u probably wont notice any improvement at all after spending that rm65, and that's what i call i huge waste of money.

save that rm65 since u're low on budget. u never know if u suddenly need it for something unexpected

fair comment. still, i've tried it on high settings (disabled AA, AF, vsync, hardware mouse, etc) and the game is playable.
on medium settings it runs better. (of course cannot compare to gaming rig performance)

but going back to my original question: will 6GB up the vram to 512mb same as 8GB would? any idea?

For best graphics performance, your computer should have two same-size SO-DIMMs installed, one in each slot. When memory is installed in your Mac in same size pairs, the computer gains some performance benefits from the memory being interleaved. If you upgrade the memory in your Mac, make sure you have matching SO-DIMMs (both in memory size and speed) in each slot for the best graphics performance.

good to know it's still playable. however extra VRAM mostly only benefits in textures and almost nothing else. hardly worth rm65 IMO, unless that rm65 is just laying around. but that questions why dont u have another rm65 laying around tongue.gif as piscesguy mentioned, 2+4gb ram u wont take advantage of the dual channel

btw yeah i think it's true that i'll increase the VRAM to 512mb. source: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/278804...tart=0&tstart=0
