hi guys, i own a mbp 13" early 2011 model. i read that bumping up the ram to 8GB will also bump up the intel hd3000 ram from 384MB to 512MB. does anyone know if just bumping up to 6GB will achieve the same results for the video ram? i know i know...price already so cheap why not go for 8GB rite? problem is i'm a little low on budget and have already committed $ for other more important things.

so i wanna up the ram in order that in bootcamp win7 64-bit all the ram will be usable as well as increasing the video ram to 512mb will help with gaming. i know that mbp's aren't made for gaming. for that i already have a gaming pc back in my hometown waiting for me come xmas break. the thing is.. skyrim was just released and i cannot wait already to kill me some dragons. rawr!!!!

any advice on this will be much appreciated.

intel hd3000 for skyrim..... that's one of the most gpu-intensive games out there, but i dont know if it'll scale well to the hd3000.

my advice... dont bother with upgrading your RAM if it's for skyrim. i dont know if it'll increase the VRAM but 384mb to 512mb is a very very small difference. u probably wont notice any improvement at all after spending that rm65, and that's what i call i huge waste of money.

save that rm65 since u're low on budget. u never know if u suddenly need it for something unexpected

fair comment. still, i've tried it on high settings (disabled AA, AF, vsync, hardware mouse, etc) and the game is playable.
on medium settings it runs better. (of course cannot compare to gaming rig performance)

but going back to my original question: will 6GB up the vram to 512mb same as 8GB would? any idea?

good to know it's still playable. however extra VRAM mostly only benefits in textures and almost nothing else. hardly worth rm65 IMO, unless that rm65 is just laying around. but that questions why dont u have another rm65 laying around tongue.gif as piscesguy mentioned, 2+4gb ram u wont take advantage of the dual channel

btw yeah i think it's true that i'll increase the VRAM to 512mb. source: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/278804...tart=0&tstart=0

To all bros.. last night i had my mini upgraded to 8gb.. i bought the KVR one..tortured it with memtest..sleep and everything goes smoothly as for now..hopefully it will last..

as for the VRAM wise, it was changed from 288 to 512..now i can use aperture without sluggish anymore..before this it is sluggish like hell..now not anymore..

anyone who dont give it a try yet, please do so..i bought mine at 64 for 4gb..
