I'm currently on ACPP plan for 3 years, just bought my Macbook Pro 2011 13 i5 not long ago, I'm keen to do dual HDD setup by swapping the CD-ROM, with SSD. So basically, if anything went wrong, my warranty is void right? What about if swap back the CD-ROM before I send back to Apple? Do the warranty still void?
*
If service center can somehow trace back the damage to be user-caused, then they can reject the warranty claim. But most of the time they are too busy to do so.

I would be the first one before this to say that the RAM you use may not affect your performance. I am now retracting back that statement.

Bought a pair of 4GB KVR Kingston to upgrade a 13" Pro. Immediately I noticed that :-

1. Power reading is all over the place, running down the battery about 2 hours faster.

2. The system feels sluggish, especially when you do a lot of encoding movies.

Did the whole memtest thing, nothing came out. In the end, installed it in a Windows notebook and did diagnostic, no problem.

Or maybe it was just the Kingstom ram. Anyway, ordered A-spec ram and things are running much-much better. Corsair at RM120 for 4GB.

Sorry, but that is nonsense. The only way you mac cannot boot or hand is if you didn't install the memory right or you put in wrong memory, or you are talking about PowerPC macs. In fact, I have used a lot of corsair rams before, and mushkin in a lot of macs before without any problems. Even then, the symptoms of a bad memory doesn't usually manifest themselves that clearly. Or maybe it's just placebo effect.

The ones that do give me problems are KVR rams, or any Kingston, to be exact. A lot of resellers are selling Mac tested ram, for me I would recommend Corsair Mac rams if you could get them, barring that, get the mushkin or normal corsair ram. In my experience, they have the least problems when paired with an intel mac.

Whatever you do, don't go to Authorized reseller like MacXXXXX la or MacXXXXX la. That is like going to sacrifice yourself at the altar of stupidity of paying a premium.

You can replace back the original DVD rom back to its original n replace back all original part before send in for warranty.

I never used iMacs before, since most of my power desktops are windows based. As far as I know, they use the same memory as notebook sized rams, and yes, the memory bay doors are just below your iMac, check the apple website for specific details on what ram to buy according to your iMac version.

Normally get my rams from either Viewnet, or C-Zone.

Hi guys!

I have a MacBook pro 13" i5 2.3ghz early 2011 model..I'm planning  to upgrade to ssd 120gb..any recommendation for a specific brand?how bout the expected price?is't easy to self assemble?
*
Actually any SSD will do but since ur on a new 2011 mbp I suggest to go for the Sata 6Gb instate the old Sata 3Gb since ur Mac can easily boost to 5xx+ transfer rate.

The different between the apple SSD vs Conventional SSD is the trimming enable. But you actually can enable it with a simple hack. Just google around.

By the way I'm already upgrade to SSD 256Gb and it's faaaaaast.

As always I will recommend to replace ur Mac ram to apple certified ram. But most just ignore as reason value ram work perfectly.

As its ur money and it's ur work that you put on risk as application crash or more worst kernel panic.

Whatever brand also no problem. Only think is that you need to enable trim manually. That's all. I'm using 3rd party SSD on my mbp unibody 2008.

maybe the mushkin pair is faulty anyway. as in, even if installed on a windows laptop, will get same problem

but again, that's just 2 customers out of a lot more who are using mushkin on their macs without any problem at all. just keep in mind, they're not compatible 100% of the time, but close to. im not sure if can claim warranty or not if normal RAMs cannot work on macs

Mostly it won't replace as normal ram are not recommended for Mac. As muskin does sell apple certified ram for use in Mac but the price is much expensive compare to its PC ram.

Although value ram ideally should work in Mac, but I'm indeed seen some weirdo cases, which they cause kernel panic
Switch to KTA ram, the response is different. I have even conducted test before.
