Hi,

Im a designer student n need to use AutoCAD n 3D max for my study in future so basically need PC to run 3Dmax.

But i dun want to purchase PC. I feel like get a MBP to run Bootcamp or others SW so that i still can use 3Dmax in MBP.

So my question: is it stable for me to use MBP to run those SW?

Thanks,
Dan

Nope not possible. It's either dual boot thru bootcamp or virtualization i.e. VMWare or Parallel Desktop.

bootcamp is not 3rd party tongue.gif

i suppose u can use disk utility to manually partition the drive urself. set it to Master Boot Record. after partitioning, insert ur windows DVD, reboot and press and hold down C before the mac chime to boot from the windows DVD. process as how you would on a normal PC. just make sure not to format ur macintosh HD partition

bootcamp assistant software simply does all that automatically. never tried myself lah but i dont see why i wont work. why dont u want to use bootcamp anyway?

Ok a bit off topic here. Have you guys try this product known as CrossOver before? It states that it can perform better than VM and no need to install separately.

QUOTE
CrossOver allows you to install many popular Windows applications on your Mac or Linux computer. You can think of it as an emulator, but it's different, because there's no Windows OS license required. Your applications integrate seamlessly in OS X or Linux; just click and run. No rebooting, no switching to a virtual machine, and no Windows Operating System license required!

http://www.codeweavers.com/products/crossover/

I myself also use PD6 but games don't perform too well in it. So I am wondering if this CrossOver product will do the job? Anyone tried it before?

Hie Guys,

Need some advise here for Parallels Desktop & VMware Fusion (I have Bootcamp) for Lion
(Sorry is this question has been asked many times as a few post back was asking Dota n etc...)

Much appreciated that I have some positive feedback on the stability issue and wide rage of compatibility for Windows applications:

Having 2009 MBP
Intel C2D: 2.26GHz
4GB 1067DDR3
OS: Lion 10.7

Which Parallels vs. VMware provide:
i) Uses less resource for MBP?
ii) Less heat dissipated
iii) Stable and reliable
iv) Smooth without lagging under native OS Win7

Propose: Work under Windows, personal under Mac OS X

Thanks smile.gif

Using Lion here with PD6. You have to download the latest update of it to ensure its compatibility with Lion, otherwise it will make a mess in the Launchpad by flooding all Windows app in it.

QUOTE
Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac build 6.0.12094 contains bug fixes and enhancements that improve the overall performance of Parallels Desktop 6 and its compatibility with Mac OS X Lion. This update is highly recommended for all users of Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac.

I also tried VMware 3.1.3 (Trial) is kinda sluggish when loading Windows 7 when compares to PD6. Therefore after that I purchase PD6 with one of the forumer here. blush.gif

Yes you can. I assume the pd6 pointing to other windows not the bootcamp.
