Can I install a Windows in BootCamp and access it using Parallels Desktop or VMWare directly in Mac OS X without rebooting it? Is the performance the same?

Ok a bit off topic here. Have you guys try this product known as CrossOver before? It states that it can perform better than VM and no need to install separately.

QUOTE
CrossOver allows you to install many popular Windows applications on your Mac or Linux computer. You can think of it as an emulator, but it's different, because there's no Windows OS license required. Your applications integrate seamlessly in OS X or Linux; just click and run. No rebooting, no switching to a virtual machine, and no Windows Operating System license required!

I myself also use PD6 but games don't perform too well in it. So I am wondering if this CrossOver product will do the job? Anyone tried it before?

Using Lion here with PD6. You have to download the latest update of it to ensure its compatibility with Lion, otherwise it will make a mess in the Launchpad by flooding all Windows app in it.

QUOTE
Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac build 6.0.12094 contains bug fixes and enhancements that improve the overall performance of Parallels Desktop 6 and its compatibility with Mac OS X Lion. This update is highly recommended for all users of Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac.

I also tried VMware 3.1.3 (Trial) is kinda sluggish when loading Windows 7 when compares to PD6. Therefore after that I purchase PD6 with one of the forumer here. blush.gif

Anyone here using Parallels 4 and finding the Mac is booting up real slow after installing PD4?
*
I only feel a bit slow in booting after using Boot Camp with Windows 7. Not affected by my Parallels Desktop 7 coz I install after Boot Camp.

i just tried it on PD7. gave it 2 CPU and 2gb RAM. lagged like hell haha
*
Well you have to assigned it properly based on the OS you are using and also based on the total RAM installed you have in your Mac. Tried assigned 2GB to Windows 7 and it lagged. But after revert to 1.5GB it works fine and PD7 don't recommend me to use 1.5GB and above also coz total RAM available is 4GB here.

it isn't beta, more so one stage before alpha. i would personally advice against it but hey tongue.gif

you could install it via bootcamp like any other instances of windows, driver support on the other hand, i wouldn't be able to give any input on.
*
I downloaded Windows 8 32-bit edition and installed in Parallels Desktop 7. Well it won't messed up your main OS as it runs on separate environment. Installation goes well, but can't move around in the Metro UI with a mouse unless you tweaked it up with some code which can found in the PD7 forum. A bit lazy to do that and I delete it off from PD7. Haha. Haven't try on Boot Camp but I doubt it will work properly without a touchscreen.
