No need to set anything, parallel is not like bootcamp or making a partition, the whole OS, apps, files and activities within the OS will be encapsulated in one *.pvm file like

windows 7 ultimate 64bit.pvm
windows 8.1 professional 64bit.pvm
ubuntu 13.04 64bit.pvm

The name of the file follows the name you give for your OS. Each pvm will grow bigger with more files and applications u installed and take up more of your macintosh HD space in parallel folder. Not partition

If you want more space for OSX just relocate these pvm files to a portable hdd or NAS or cloud up to you.

Dont worry u can just transfer back to your mac when you want to use them. All settings are intact. No uninstallation, deletion or reinstallation of OS needed. Just drag and drop again and your windows or linux or whatever will be just the way they're before.

This is the beauty of parallel desktop

My mba is 128 too, so i always relocate my windows pvm file when i want to use mac and vice versa.

my windows 7 ultimate 64bit.pvm has Office 2010 64 bit takes up 21.89GB
windows 8.1 professional 64bit.pvm is around 18.43GB

I thought i never want to use windows but today this interior design software has no mac version so i dropped the windows pvm file that i keep in portable HDD and run windows and installed that software without a glitch.

According to them.

"Parallels Desktop 9 is compatible with Mavericks. Parallels Desktop 8 will work with Mavericks but does not take advantage of Mavericks features. Please make sure you are running the most recent build of Parallels Desktop. Click on the Parallels Desktop menu and select “Check for Updates”.

i was running Parallels 8 since Mountain Lion and just upgraded to Mavericks. so far everything seems fine with the VM ... in fact overall speed of the virtual machine seem to have improved !

update: if you meant to ask if P8 could run OS X Mavericks as a GUEST OS ... then sorry i have no idea as i have not used Parallels to run any MacOS as guest.

The price for Parallels Desktop 9 is MYR 269.

For a slightly cheaper price, maybe you can try eBay or Amazon.com.

I bought direct from parallels.com, and they're charging a standard price of USD79.99 on my credit card. I have paid RM254.33 for it when my credit card bill arrived.
Its charged by Cleverbridge Co., and you get the product key via email when u purchase from the web, almost instantly upon completion of filling the purchase form.

There's an option for you, whether you allow guest user to access PD8 or not. Just check or unchecked it biggrin.gif

just started using my gf's MBP late 2011, transferred my PC over using Parallels, now using Windows 7 in Parallels 8 in Mavericks.

at first it was laggy as hell, my MBP was only 4GB RAM, just upgraded it to 8GB and now it's much better.

the beauty of using Parallels is i don't have to bother with backup for my Windows 7, and can revert to any previous snapshot any time (not that i've tried though heh), just have to use Time Machine backup

oh ya forgot to mention i got Parallels 8 through MacUpdate Promo, that time it was bundled together, think i got like 20 over software for USD49.99 or something, including Parallels so it was a bloody good deal.

Are you using Boot Camp ? If so, you can get the drivers (Boot Camp Support Software) from Apple.

http://support.apple.com/downloads/#macoscomponents

BTW, what do you mean by unable to boot ? Have you tried these ?

1) Hold down the "option" key during startup (after the chime) to choose OS ?

2) If Macintosh HD is not listed when you have tried the above, try this, boot into Windows normally. go to Control Panel > Seach Control Panel > Boot Camp and set your start up disk.

For recovery, you can use the OS X Internet Recovery.

Hi guys, I'm using VMware Fusion 5.0 to run Windows 7 on my MBP.

I tried to share a folder from my mac to my Win7 by following the video below. However, when I enable the Shared Folder button in VMware, my Windows 7 desktop doesn't auto create the VMware Shared Folder shortcut (in video time: 1:03).

Since the VMware Shared Folder shortcut din't auto create on my Win7 desktop, can anyone tell where can I find the shortcut / how can I access the shared folder??

Please help... notworthy.gif

Thanks in advance! wub.gif

SOLVED by installing vmware tools on my Windows7 (Guest OS).
