Its not smuggled. Its a grey import. Probably they brought it in from some country like any other AP phones. Or someone traded in the iPhone 3G and they refurbished it or something. The price usually shows off its 'real color' hehehehe!

trade-in at any maxis center or maxis distributors?
just bring the existing iphone when signing up for the contract?

what if the iphone 3g is locked? will it be valid for trade in?

They even take the 1st gen iPhone which is also lock and not officially available in Malaysia.

Fullbox with all hardwares: RM 390
Phone with headset: RM 290

2G 16GB to 3G 16GB
Fullbox with all hardwares: RM 430

So that means there is zero chance for hopes in trading up for 3G[S]? See guys, its only 2G --> 3G or maybe 3G --> 3G.

I hope not. Even if Maxis does provide it, I hope they give priority to those wanting to get it with fresh contracts/phone line, and not trade-ins. The whole lining up would be a mess if the crowd last launch decides to mob the 3G[S] subscribers as well.

There's a reason why it is called a "contract". And I'm sure somewhere in that contract, it says you are bound to your line to that particular model of an iPhone, which until July '09, happens to be just an iPhone 3G.

I concur with string. They will not trade up for a 3GS. As for the 3G to 3G trade in, here you go:

3G 8GB to 3G 8GB : Rm 900
3G 16GB to 3G 16GB: RM 1200

Anyway, is there any chance Iphone in Malaysia could become available to another provider? Hoping for Celcom tho since I hear they have a good data plan.

LOL. i could only detect the maxis iconic logo during the WWDC.

having more than 1 providers (in malaysia) could essentially kill everyone off. dah-lah maxis' iPhone sudah kurang sambutan.

To be honest, Maxis is not doing well with the iPhone 3G. Most of the Malaysians already know about the iPhone, thanks to Maxis bringing in and launched it here even it's quite late.

Looking at the sales, it's very disappointing actually. There's no point for another telco to join in the sales as that telco will sell it at sky high prices as well as Maxis is doing right now. They want to earn more money with the iPhone. Unless Apple wants to change to another telco if Maxis fails hard but looking at our country, Maxis will remain for quite some time.

Do Maxis or other company shows you PDF of their monthly sales record to public? Of course this comes from the inside sources.

as much as i would like to believe that, i too can speculate and say that their sales is skyrocketing and attribute it to an "inside" source of mine.

and btw public listed companies do post their results every quarter on Bursa, while Maxis had completely closed its doors after getting privatised.

No guys, you've misunderstood my point. DG mentioned the trade-in thing is until 18 June 2009. I believe the iPhone 3G[S] is after this period. So when iPhone 3G[S] is released, the trade-in period would have ended. So there's no trade-in whatsoever. So this trade-in period is only valid for 2G to 3G or 3G to 3G. Ok? Get it now?

Are you saying that after June 18th, Maxis is gonna come up with trade-in for 3G-->3G[S]? Or after June 19th, Maxis is gonna release the 3G[S]? From the keynote, was already revealed that Maxis is lumped together with the telcos who will get the 3G[S] shipment in July.
