People always talk about less features on the iPhone, it's not like they really use all the features much.

QUOTE(stringfellow @ Mar 11 2009, 04:01 PM)
The phones ARE cheaper. It is the contract plans and the monthly commitment fees that are the killer. If you have been keeping up with Apple's tieup with all other telcos, it has been the same throughout.

A lot of people dont realize this. All they see is "iPhone 3G for USD199" and immediately call it cheap. But to get the iPhone for USD199 , you need to sign up with AT&T and pay USD129.99 a month. Convert that to RM and see if you can call that cheap!
*
Paying almost RM10k+ for the two-year plan.

if ur working there and dont convert its call cheap!!

Don't you get it, it's the same.

QUOTE
USD129.99 x 24 months = USD3119.76
USD3199.76 x 3.5 = RM10919.16

So you pay almost USD3000+/RM10000+ for the bills alone, you call that cheap?

can we buy the phone directly without any contract ?

If we can buy no-contract iPhone from Maxis, then you won't see why people are bragging about the plans. wink.gif

Personally, I think it's not worth it to get one cause June/July is around the corner. Then again, if Maxis are keeping up with the latest model then maybe it's worth it. If not, then we'll have the 3rd-gen iPhone in March/April 2010.

Btw, new iPod Shuffle is out. It deserve as much hype as the iPhone too.

QUOTE(davidmak @ May 2 2009, 11:01 PM)
Me hoping to get one too at tomorrow's KLCC roadshow (according to Maxis website). Gonna take the iValue 1 for 24 months since I've been with Maxis since my first handphone. My current usage is around RM50 (without using any data) so RM100+ a month is pretty fine since I get the 500MB on data too. But I feel the 24 months a bit long though. Probably should top up RM200-300 for 12 months contract.
*
So if I were to sign up for iValue 100 Plan, I've to pay RM1910 (8GB) on the spot during registration for the first time and pay RM100 monthly? Is that it?

You pay RM2100 for the phone during first purchase, for the first 4 months you pay RM50 then the 5th month onwards you pay RM100 until your contract is over. (This is for 8GB model)

So how the Prepaid plan works actually? I'm curious on this part, it's not like we pay RM2540 for 8GB model and just top up every month on any amount we want and Maxis wouldn't make things simple isn't it?

QUOTE(o0o0 @ May 16 2009, 10:40 AM)
very attractive prepaid plan...

but if Maxis really sold out all their iPhone3G stock,
then if the buyer iPhone faulty within the warranty period,
that means no more 1 to 1 replacement on the spot! because they have no stock already!
or they will replace us with 3rd generation iPhone?

1 year warranty only seem not really enough,
some more no Apple Protection Plan for iPhone.

i will endure until June WWDC,
wait for review of 3rd generation iPhone first.
(and maybe until 3rd generation release, Maxis still have a lot of iPhone3G on hand, maybe price will reduce! hehe)
*
Yeah, now is very tempting too. Must hold temptation!

By the time Apple announce third-generation, Maxis would still have stocks so don't worry. icon_rolleyes.gif

@Mike3300 and PeeEl

You can buy the phone outright. Just called them last night and they confirmed that anyone can walkin to Maxis center and purchase the phone without signing up a prepaid plan, contract etc. You can choose to sign up the prepaid plan if you want and get the 500MB data for 12 months etc.

8GB for RM 2540 and 16GB for RM 2960

@lil_fuzz

It works with the current plan you subscribed to. Your current existing plan + RM 99(3GB data) and choose either 12 or 24 months contract. You still need to purchase the phone too depending on the contract you are sigining up.
*
So even the current prepaid users won't get 500MB free data unless they sign up for a new one? That is not good.

Apparently, the hype is high but the sales are low. They need to sell it much cheaper. RM2540 still is not appealing even it's no contract price.

Hahahaha ... a very desperate attempt by maxis to unload its stock. Next time maxis ... get on the bandwagon early when its still hot, not when the product already reaching the End Of Life cycle.

IMO, this offer is quite attractive for those who want to let go their 2G version and get 3G version. I'm still confuse with the payments though.

RM400 for trade in plus I've to sign up for plan? This is crazy!

Added on May 29, 2009, 8:18 pmThe RM700-800 range trade in price was too good to be true though, wow.

Added on May 29, 2009, 8:19 pmThen what's with the rebate for up to RM1050 as advertised? Just to lure in people to see? Maxis oh Maxis, if you really wants to clear your remaining stocks then please make it more affordable and attractive. Trust me there's more will buy it than with plans.

Another "get the customer confuse" plan by maxis. Good one.

I was like one moment hoping in joy then out of sudden crying in the corner, can't they make things simple enough. WWDC '09 is getting near and they got thousands of units more to be sold, they think they got all year?

I'm sure they want at least a working unit regardless of the wear & tear on it. RM400+ for trade in is really a rip off. wink.gif

Actually this strategy is near close to clearing off remaining stocks, but Maxis always wouldn't want to make things simple for customers.

Added on May 29, 2009, 10:14 pmIf Maxis couldn't sell off the remaining 150,000 in time, I guess Apple will be considering to push their new models late to Maxis because Maxis does not lift up to it's reputation to sell the iPhones.

Too bad for us that they advertised this on Friday where Saturday & Sunday is both off days so customers could not reach them, good for them is that by Monday some will trade their old for new and some will enquiry more about it thus might give them more business.
