the new idata plans from maxis.. got 1 says "no contract"..
so now we can buy iphone without attach to Maxis?

You still have to commit yourself for either a 12 or 24 months contract for a RM30, RM50 or RM99 limited data plan. Only Prepaid Plan is without contract and you get 500MB/month data free for 12 months.

Then the Big Ads regarding "get up to Rm1050 rebate for your old iphone" never happened?

It's happening but it is a one sided affair....they gain, you lose. The worst part as far as I am concerned is, not just for this but for all similar situations, someone plays God and decides on the value of your asset.

It might as well be a non event.

And you pay a fuller price too.

Its the same thing among mobile phone seller aka sharks in various shopping malls. When you trade in a phone, for sure they will quote a very low price for it. They control the pricing and inventory as such they have influence on the demand too. For Maxis's case, the iPhone is highly desirable, no doubt about it. Put it this way. You want it and you die to have it. Not the other way around. Because of this, Maxis can play a little game call reaping.

I stated in my earlier posting that the rebate thingy might as well be a non event and the reason I said that is anyone would be able to fetch a higher price for their iPhone compared to what the 'Gods" in Maxis will offer. So, who would be silly enough to bring in their iPhone for a ridiculous trade-in price?

If Maxis wants to deplete their 3G stock to ready themselves for the 3GS', that is hardly the right marketing strategy.

Which is why I think that advert is meant to bring in those iPhone 2G who bought from the grey market in hope of getting them into the Maxis bandwagon. Maxis now riding on the 'get original, be safe' kinda thing. Trying to oust those grey importers by offering an 'safe passage' to the 'real thing' for these users.

But of course Maxis can't be paying one grand for an old iPhone 2G right... so they extend this offer to include iPhone 3G (even though its pointless) just so they can advertise a higher 'up to' trade in value of one grand++. This offer is here to stay in my opinion. When iPhone 3G[S] is eventually released here, it would be useful to attract existing iPhone 3G users (Maxis or grey imports). But it won't happen now because its not released yet.

haha, it's always marketing strategy at play.... notice the "up to".. most of the time in these ads u never get close to the maximum discount/rebate as advertised without spending even more money.. tongue.gif

good to know that iphone 3GS will be released in Malaysia too rclxms.gif
1 year has passed since the last time ppl camped outside stores to wait for the iphone.. hahaha

As discuss before i guess the price of i3g will still remain the same probably they come up with a new package.

I personally wouldnt want the price of i3g to drop that much till u see them everywhere around the streets.

Few possibilities, reduce iPhone 3G's price or price the iPhone 3G[S] higher or limit the iPhone 3G[S] on par for some new and expensive plans.

For iPhone 3G, they could maintain the 8GB variant kicking the 16GB since the latter is considered EOL in Apple's product line.

I wouldn't mind getting the 3G at lower price or sign up for longer term contract if the 3GS is at a very affordable price.

I am interested in signing up for Maxis' iData plan but don't want the iPhone.

Anyone interested in the phone but doesn't want to sign up for a contract with Maxis, we can talk and see if can work something out?

Most likely grey import leftovers. Is it a 2G or 3G? Guess with the local availability of iPhone, most conventional consumers would have go for the Maxis's offer. Which is why the price is grey imports are lower?
